Is Joss Whedon Directing The Avengers?

... Geek god Joss Whedon (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is reportedly in final talks to direct the feature film The Avengers. The movie, scheduled for 2012 (if the planet is still here) is an all-star superhero effort involving Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth, who is also starring in Whedon's movie Cabin in the Woods), among others. It would certainly be Whedon's most high-profile project to date; the only feature film to his directorial credit is the Firefly film Serenity. Are you on board with this? [Deadline Hollywood]

... Faux newspaper The Onion continues to branch out, and has signed a deal to bring its pretty darned funny "Onion Sports" section—which is just like The Onion but about jocks—to television. Onion Sports Network will air 10 episodes on Comedy Central beginning early next year. If it's as funny as the The Onion Movie, it should make it to about episode two. [THR]

... Kristin Kreuk has been kicked to the kurb on Josh Schwartz's (Chuck, Gossip Girl) new CBS project, Hitched. She's been replaced by young blonde Sara Fletcher in the show about a couple dealing with friends and family. Kristin, I have a comfortable shoulder to cry on if you need one. [Deadline Hollywood]

... BET will bring The Game back to television after all. Yayyyyy! [Multichannel]

... How do you defend yourself against a charging Steven Seagal? Accuse him of sexual harassment. A former employee claims Seagal treated assistants like sex slaves, and Jefferson Parish (where Seagal moonlights as a reserve deputy) Sheriff Newell Normand has ordered production on Seagal's reality series Steven Seagal: Lawman to halt. If only they would do the same thing with his music career. [Radar Online]

... Former Entourage object Carla Gugino is set to play another object on Showtime's Californication, where she will be Hank Moody's (David Duchovny) looooooove interest. She'll appear in 10 episodes, and knowing the show, she'll get naked. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Michelle Forbes, who wowed us in Battlestar Galactica and True Blood—be still my geeking heart—is joining AMC's The Killing, a drama about an investigation into the murder of a girl. Forbes will play the victim's mother alongside dad Brent Sexton. [THR]
