Is Mary-Louise Parker leaving Weeds?

MILF strain.

Talk about harshing my buzz, bro. Actress Mary-Louise Parker is reportedly thinking about leaving the Showtime comedy Weeds, says the New York Post. Parker plays Nancy Botwin--the weed-dealing suburban mom--and has earned several Emmy nominations for the role.

Parker is signed on through season six, and "a source close to one of the cast members" says she is planning on exiting at the conclusion of Weeds' sixth season (season five starts this summer).

The move makes sense for Parker, who in good position to further her career in film or higher-profile television shows (which sucks because she's so darned good as Nancy).

Showtime would have to be high to think Weeds could work without Mary-Louise, so if Parker leaves, expect Weeds to be done too.

We'll leave this as simple rumor and speculation until we hear further. After all, season six is still a year and a half from ending.

I totally agree with meateater79"I understand the show wanting a change in scenery to avoid stagnation, but I liked it a lot better when the story's setting was in suburbia."

The show might as well be cancelled without Mary-Louise Parker. Personally, I think Nancy needs to move back to the original subdivision and the original Conrad, Heylia, Doug and Dean characters need to be added to the cast.

We stopped watching it a year ago. We still love Dexter, Californication, and True Blood for pay TV, and Chuck, Bones, The Metalist, Fringe, Reaper, and Supernatural for network TV. Smallville is on the fence, but may pull itself up if they move the story line ahead a little faster.

Yeah makes sense, Weeds has almost lost it..

I love the show, but two more seasons seems about right. Nancy can't move much farther up the drug trade ladder.

That's too bad. But it makes sense. 6 seasons is a long time these days. I will be sad to see the show end but I hope that they give it the ending that it deserves.

the last season was the worst one yet.

6 seasons is great. But the show will not be the same without her.

Weeds needs to end soon anyway, I love the show but it wouldn't be the same after 5 seasons let alone 6.

"...if Parker leaves, expect Weeds to be done too." That explains everything for me... If she's out, weeds is out too

I think 6 is good for Weeds, but if they continue the show without her, they're just stupid.

  • Maverick405

She's perfect for the role, but I guess it's going to be difficult coming up with new story lines too.

How can she leave when this show's all about her??? And if WEEDS has to end because of her leaving that would be just sad.

I really like Weeds, and will watch it until the end, but 6 seasons is a solid run for any show.

She cant leave. Neither can Weeds. You can carry on the show forever. Seriously. So many different story lines you could go with.

I'm totally fine with her leaving and the show ending.Don't get me wrong, i love this show, but what is there left to tell?I just hope, they end it on a high note.this show is to godd, to just end, without any conclusion/real finale.

I was a big fan but the show's already well past jumping the shark as far as I'm concerned. Another two seasons is more than sufficient.

cable shows rarely go beyond six seasons, plus she is the main character and the show's whole concept (widow turned drug dealer to support her family) revolves around her. wouldn't make any sense to continue without her

    Nooooo, she's so hot!

Six seasons will be a good run. If she leaves they BETTER cancel the show and end on a good note. It'll give them a chance to end it good and not leave us hanging.

Awesome show. It HAS to end if she does not return.lol MILF strain?

  • Altercation666

Personally I felt it was lacking in season 4 without Conrad. Anyways I think six season is good for any show and as long as they end it right I would be happy with it gone after season six.

I love Weeds but not sure if it can withstand six seasons, let alone more. Definitely not without MLP!

    Apr 19, 2009
  • malawi69

I don't watch Weeds, but when the main character (and I don't mean stars) leaves, shows don't become so appealing.

    Apr 19, 2009
  • meateater79

I think the show will end at the sixth season even if she stays on. Can't really see the story going anywhere for much longer, and I think MLP knows that as well. She won't be starved for work, talented as she is. Heard she's on stage quite often, too.

  • RAYcluse

This show is old anyway. It should end soon. Even if MLP hasn't won her well deserved Emmy yet.

I love the show, but it would not be the same with out her. I hope that when she leaves (if she leaves) then the show does too.

It's not unusual for rumours like this to pop up around the time actors are renegotiating contracts.

WHY?!?!! How could the show go on?

    Apr 18, 2009
  • kiritambo

Haven't they left the little boxes?! Despite that, it still centered pretty much on Nancy, but with MLP gone, I'm sure the series will end with her departure. Sadly!

    Apr 18, 2009
  • mister-bear

I think it's for the best to end it with her departure. The last season wasn't really that interesting and I don't think they can bring it back to the glory days of the first three seasons. Two more seasons will be more than enough to make the series end with dignity.

    Apr 18, 2009
  • bernsd3

Can't really see this show extending beyond Mary-Louise if she leaves. The show could be kind of interesting with brother Andy, but I don't think so.

    Apr 18, 2009
  • rvdg

I Think the show will end when they run out of versions of the "Little boxes" Song. Or after six series which ever comes first.

    Apr 18, 2009
  • kendalkendal

i hope she doesn't leave, without her there is no show.

    Apr 18, 2009
  • AegisAtreyu

If it doesn't end when Mary-Louise Parker leaves then it will 90% sure go downhill. Just look at other comedy shows that have lost their main character like 'That 70s Show'. Not that you can compare the two cos Weeds is a completely different beast.

    Apr 18, 2009
  • LadyInque

I agree after six seasons its ok to end the show if Mary-Louis Parker is leaving...

Ending Weeds after six seasons would be a good idea for Showtime, which has a good history of knowing to end their series in good time, and in good ways. And I would be most surprise if they continued the series without Parker. In all - good news!!

No Mary-Louise Parker, means Weeds ends.

    Apr 18, 2009
  • nmr6

It is obvious that Weeds would end if Mary-Louise Parker leaves. The whole show is built around her character. The only good point is that the show wouldnt end till after season 6, which i assume is next year seeing as season 5 airs this summer. :)

I started watching "Weeds" with a little bit of disapproval, didn't like the idea of a mother, selling weed, but I changed my opinion really fast... I just adore Nancy Botwin, without her, Weeds won't be Weeds... if Parker leaves, I think, that's the end of the series. And I don't mind that. Like some brothers said in their movie: "Everything that has a beginning, has an end" ;)

I think six seasons of Weeds will be enough for me. Almost better setting an end-point to focus the show. It's worked elsewhere!

Sad, but 6 season's for a show is a good run in my opinion anymore, to much and anyless, not enough.
