There have been rumors around the Web that Chad Michael Murray is leaving the CW's One Tree Hill for good at the conclusion of the season, much to the chagrin of the show's fans. Last month, fan site OneTreeHillFans.com cited sources who say Murray has not renewed his contract with the drama, and wants to move on for personal and professional reasons.
Now it looks like there may be more to the story. Murray is apparently on his way out, but not on his own accord. Amateur video (which has since been removed by the user) recorded by YouTube user Allee8890 caught the star posing for photos with fans on location in North Carolina, and Murray shocked those that gathered by saying producers don't want him back.
"They don't want me… I'm not joking," Murray says between photos. "They're not bringing me back… because they want to save money."
Murray knows that fans some sway over decisions, and encourages One Tree Hill's faithful to "start blogging" and let them know they're disappointed that he isn't being re-signed.
One Tree Hill will be back for another season, but without Chad Michael Murray? Does that make much sense? I know we're all in a bit of a financial crunch, but should shows save money by dumping lead actors?

chad should stay because the movie is surrouding him. he is ma favourite in fact i love him
That would be the dumbest thing the producers of One Tree Hill would do. Why take out Luke when the success of the series depends on him, Nate, Peyton, Mouth, Brook and Skills? Don't do that please cos if you take Chad Murray out I'm gonna stop watching that series. Take everybody out but the above listed. I love them. I love Murray Luke and Peyon the most, I am on season 5 and I hope Lucas and Peyton got back together. I almost died of heart attack when Luke proposed to Lindsey. Please Murray, outside of One Tree Hill, I think you should marry P Sawyer, you guys will make a great couple. Tell Anna Tagaro I love her. (Dave from Nigeria)
I can't beleave that they have not signed Chad Micheal Murrayfor any show's this season. He is the reason I started watching this show. It really is not a show with out him. The show is suppost to be about to brother's and the thing's they go through. I hope they see the mistake they made and bring him back to the show.
hi my name's tamar. it's not fair that chad's not going to be on one tree hill season 7. he's the mane caricror. he's the hotest, sweetest guy i wish may husbend was as hot & as sweet as him.
Yes what have they been smoking!?! Can they not see the black hole on the horizon!! Completely wrong what they are doing.
they better make it from jamie's point of view now like show 13 years ahead or sumthn...but well still they should end series if they are havin trouble...!!!
The french name of the series says it all: Les Freres Scott (the Scott Brothers). Without Lucas, it ain't One Tree Hill. And losing Peyton, too?! What have the CW execs been smoking?!?
What the heck? Why does my last post say I posted in 1969? I wasnt even alive in 1969. LOL. :D
This reminds me of when Brandon left 90210 - the show died for good after that.
Honestly,I watch OTH b'coz of him...
WHAT??!! NO CHAD,NO ONE TREE HILL.. He's the main actor in OTH,whoever can thought of dumping him?? Just a very2 stupid thing 2 do! All these seasons,OTH is part of me but IF Chad would no longer be part of OTH,then, let's OTH be no more of me..
Omg , are they crazy ! He's the reason why we watch One tree hill ! If they dump him , the show would end really badly , so I really hope that it's just a bad joke .
kisses
This is going to end the show on a bad note. No tv show that has had a successful run should be cancelled. If they get rid of Chad Michael Murray, the show will be cancelled.
If chad gets the boot it won't be long before the show get canceled because of ratings. And i agree producers better have second thoughts about their decision. One tree hill is my top rated show.
I've a feeling One Tree Hill will end up like The O.C. when they removed Marissa. Producers better have second thoughts about their decision.
This season has been poor anyway, it's turned into Seventh Heaven. Loved the first 4 seasons and own them on DVD, so if they have to drop a main character, please drop Peyton. She adds nothing to the show but whining and nagging, and is very corny.
they are stupid if they get rid of chad they will lose most of their fanbase
Without chad;i think the shows it`s gonna blows;please Mark Schwahn don`t kick him out from the best show ever OTH;I think in less of half season you must gonna end this awesome show.I think Chad and Hillarie are the best of this show
While the other cast members are great, Chad's character Lucas is the core of the show. Without him the show will not last, so if he is not back. I give the show 6 episodes until they have to cancel it.
I can see how the show could survive with out him, but you cant just drop THE main character. He has been the voice of the show and the character everything revolves around. Would be a pretty bad decision to let OTH fall in ratings on its last season or 2.
CMM is the main lead in the show.. the show will not be the same without him.. i will continue to watch the show since i'm a hardcore fan but i wont be as excited as before.
No Chad Michael Murray = no show. It'll get canceled just like that. There's no point to OTH without him.
Chad Michael Murray is the main reason I watch this show & if you get rid of him I will stop watching the show. I have seen every episode since it first started & I have even watched the reruns a few times but if you get rid of him I will stop watching it.
wow what an awful idea not only will you be hurting the show, you will be hurting the viewers including myself. the ratings will shoot right back down to 1.'s instead of 9's and then you will have no show at all! seriously bad idea I really don't think you should go through it at all..!!
just a negotiation tactic from Chad.....Tom Welling made that announcement and now is being paid more than 5 times than before, he is trying to do the same thing.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE CREATOR WON'T BE RENEWING CHAD'S CONTRACT
IF CHAD DOESN'T GET RENEWED I WILL NOT WATCH THE SHOW WE JUST GONNA HAVE TO WAIT & SEE IF THEY WILL RENEW THE CONTRACT
he's what the show surrounds...i mean the other characters are important but hes the main character. i would rather have them end the show with closure then do another season without cmm.ive been bored of the show lately and havent actually watched the last 2 episodes...im sure im not the only one i think its time for oth to end on its own terms rather then harshly midway through the next season.

No Way! CMM is OTH!
While I think this season of OTH definitely should've been the last, i'm not at all upset about CMM leaving, and Lucas has gotten really boring and he no longer feels like the central characters anyways, especially since his movie storyline ended. And Peyton never really did much for me either, so i'll still watch season 7, but there's no doubt that there are many OTH fans who love these characters and won't watch S7 period, and who can blame them when they're so attached to the characters, OTH WILL lose ratings, that's just a fact, and it's unlikely that OTH will get much more then a dozen episdoes next season. And I do agree that mostly useless and uninteresting side characters like Julian and Jack should be written out, I hate Jamie more then any other characters but I know all too well he's not going anywhere unfortunately.moreless
If that is the reason, that he's leaving because they want to cut cost. How about not getting rid a main character and get rid of the 40 other supporting characters that have showed up this season. Like Sam, Jack, Chase, Mia. As well as other main characters that no one really cares about. Like Millicent and Skills. If the seventh season just starred, Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Hilaire Burton, Bethany Joy Galeotti, Sophia Bush, Paul Joahansson, Barbara Alyn Woods, Lee Norris, and Jackson Brundage that'd be fine with me. Hell, when if it came down to it, I'd really just be fine with main/first five (Chad, James, Hilaire, Sophia and Bethany)
Dear Tim Surrete, I cannot believe that creator and executive producer Mark Schwahn would negotiate a seventh season for One Tree Hill (OTH) with CW Network and then not bring back the one actor who is "irreplaceable" to the story line. It is through Lucas' eyes (Chad Michael Murray (CMM)) that OTH unfolds. Lucas is Peyton's (Hilarie Burton's) "soul mate", and the main reason she is going to risk a troubled pregnancy to bring his child into the world. Without Lucas, there is no "fairy tale" wedding, nor "love which conquers all" obstacles and without end.If this is a "salary negotiating ploy" by CMM, then it is "clever" but "callous". During these economic times, the five major OTH actors (CMM, Burton, Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, and Bethany Joy Galeotti) must renegotiate their contracts in anticipation of at least a seventh OTH season. With the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) still fighting "internally" whether to strike or not over future salaries and royalty rights to DVD and Internet sales revenues, this is a "hard time" for actors to carry out contract negotiations. However, none of these five actors should forget the recent history of successful TV series' actors when they were forced, or chose, to go out on their own after their series run was over.Three examples, the experiences of the casts of "The O.C.", "Dawson's Creek", and "Roswell" come to mind. Only Katherine Heigel of "Roswell" has made it big since that series ended. Michell Williams is a regular on the TV series "Lost", but Shiri Appleby and Brendan Fehr are primarily used as supporting actors in either feature films or TV. From "The O.C.", Mischa Barton is still suffering from the experience of "rehab" and is not working, and her co-lead is now co-starring in a new "TV cop series" starting in April, 2009. None of the other major young stars from "The O.C." have had anything more than supporting roles in a few "less than successful" feature films. From "Dawson's Creek", if Katie Holmes had not married mega film star Tom Cruise and produced such a beautiful daughter, Suri, we would not be hearing much about her in the entertainment media. James Vanderbek (Dawson) is now a supporting actor on OTH, and has had limited success in feature films. Until "Pacey" landed a co-starring role in the hit TV series "Fringe", his career was in "neutral". With the possible exceptions of Katherine Heigel and Katie Holmes, none of the stars of the above three hit TV series have had great success since their series were over.CMM has the best possible situation for a young actor in OTH. He is acting, writing, and directing within the confines of OTH. No other 27 year old actor with his limited experience in the profession would be able to have that freedom and those opportunities. He is part of a cast which seems to be "a family" both on and off the screen. The entire OTH cast likes one another and seems to have a good relationship both professionally and personally. Rarely does an actor achieve significant success prior to the age of 30, and the cast of OTH has 3+ years to go before any of them reach that milestone. All the OTH young stars were "unknowns" when OTH started 6+ years ago, and they can attribute most of their success outside OTH to the experiences they have gained within that series.Since OTH has already been renewed for a seventh season, all the young OTH stars should "ride this pony" as far as it will take them. From the past experiences of members of their peer group in "The O.C.", "Dawson's Creek", and "Roswell", it was two years or more after their series ended before they found work in comparable circumstances. The best way to find future work is to begin "looking" while you are still gainfully employed in your current job. But as long as you are "happy" (financially, professionally, and personally) with where you are, it is "stupidity" to leap from a successful, renewed TV series to the uncertainties of an entertainment industry undergoing a possible strike in dire economic times. Those who have a job should hold on to it and be thankful they have it.My advice to CMM would be to talk to OTH Creator and Executive Producer Mark Schwahn, tell him you want to continue to "grow" within the confines of OTH, and explain to him why OTH is a better show WITH YOU than WITHOUT YOU. OTH needs Lucas Scott (CMM) but CMM needs OTH even more. Hopefully, CMM realizes that.moreless
finally!!!!
Show has lasted 3 seasons too long anyway.
Congrats Chad.
They should really try and finish the series this season. Forget about the seventh season. Every characters story seems to have been told. It is appearing that in this season that all the different story arcs are concluding and so they should end the series on a high. Season 7 could be a season too many, and it might be taking the story too far. The only way season 7 might be successful is if the story is told like ten years from the end of season 6. Like they did for season 5. That might work again.AS for CMM leaving, well, essentially its his show. So, it might be a very bad idea.Sorry for the long post fokes!
I like OTH..and I like Murray~~~If they dump Chat,one of the leaders of the OTH..it will be a totally ridiculous thing!!!!!!Without Lucas,what is the OTH gonna be???No Lucas.No OTH~~!
Hopefully the show will end now!
its like taking the essential piece from the bottom of the jenga tower... ok wow, I am a loser lol
This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Fine, Hilarie Burton is done, I am more of a Brooke fan anyways, but to make Chad leave when he is the main character is absolutely insane. They could never pull it off- instead of saving money they just won't be making it because they are completely cutting the main character and from the article, unwillingly. I mean, Kenzie is from Wilmington, so its not as though he has major conflicts with the location.
If Chad goes I am sure the show is going to lose a lot of viewers. I know I will not feel as intensely for the show. That would mean more bad news for Peyton and Lucas....which by now deserve a little happiness! I think there could be better ways to save money. Losing Chad would save money, but also cost money.... not really a good thing. Lose-Lose!
are u mad? they cant just do that. That is social suicide. Dont they remember the reason that the O.C was cancelled, yes...because they killed Mischa Barton, stick to the status quo. Who else will be the voice of reason and torture for the tree hill residents? and who wil be confused in love? Nathan cant do it alone, thats for sure
i reckon they wont drop them for good, but really have them move away from tree hill and be recurring cast members with a few story arches involving them wen they visit tree hill
Both Hilarie and Chad aren't coming back for the seventh season of OTH. It dosen't really matter to me because I'm usually more interested in the Naley and Brooke sotrylines when I watch One Tree Hill but still, two lead characters leaving is going to affect the ratings dramatcially.
if they really do drop Chad out of the show, ratings are for sure gonna go down the drain and so is there production money. If so, then why risk it?!
When I read this story, I see the following interpretation. CMM asked for more money and they weren't willing to pay more. CMM tries to come off as the good guy saying they want to get rid of him to save money, but really it's that he won't work for what they are willing to pay. Just have that feeling....
i this one is for real? oh no no no no!!!! they cant do that to him!!! he's the lead actor, gosh!
Well, that's just a stupid thing to do!
