Is Summer Glau headed to Dollhouse?

Summer Glau keepin' it in the Whedonverse.

Joss Whedon fans--put some duct tape around your head because it's about to explode. Whedon's Fox drama Dollhouse heads into its second season next fall and it may have a familiar face: Summer Glau.

The possibility of Glau moving into the Dollhouse is certainly no stretch, as Whedon and Glau are practically BFFs. They previously worked together on Firefly and Serenity, and have never masked their affection for each other. And with Teminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles given the axe, Glau's schedule is open.

Whedon tells EW.com: "If anybody thinks [adding Glau to Dollhouse] hasn't occurred to me already then they have not met me. I mentioned it to her before [Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles] was cancelled."

But Whedon doesn't want to cast Glau as one of Dollhouse's Actives--emotion-free playthings that are imprinted with personalities and skills and hired out to the rich. He wants to cast her in a new role--"someone who talks too much." Let's face it, between her roles as Cameron (a robotic Terminator) and River Tam (an emotionally screwy child prodigy), Glau has played her share of introverted characters, and it would be nice to see her flash that smile a little more often.

"Summer said to me, 'I would like to play a normal girl before I die of extreme old age'", Whedon told EW.

Eliza Dushku and Summer Glau in the same show? The Fox marketing team is already buzzing.

It's been a while since this story was posted have there been any developments?

I will admit this, I was never a fan of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Cronicles, but Miss Glau is a talented woman. I hope she can help Dollhouse get a little bit of the light it so sorely needs. I agree with the not making here a Doll part but wonder what her character will be doing? Maybe with Paul Ballard being MIA they need to send in someone else to investigate. I just hope we get some better story lines and nothing to repetative. Last thing we need is repeatativness. Repetativness is so boring and the last thing anyone wants.

i think that this is a good news as dollhouse isnt all that bad, the last 2 episodes were awesome!

Make her a successfully escaped/freed former Doll/active of another worldwide Dollhouse cell/center with all her previous imprints/knowledge intact and fully functional (a sucessful merging unlike Alpha) who is pretending to be a reporter to seek out and expose the rest of the Dollhouses around the world :)

I find it stupifying that Dollhouse was even renewed. It was horribly dull week after week. A real botch-up job of a decent premise.

Summer Glau is awesome and she would be awesome on Dollhouse! Unfortunetly, she couldn't be a doll because she would completely outshine a certain doll on the show. I like her as a kinda kooky character though. Normalcy is kinda dull. She would be an awesome doll though.

summer playing a normal girl/woman is a waste of talent. Plus her episode in The Big Bang Theory was really weak (and she was playing herself) maybe it was a last minute script or something but it was lame, and useless for her to be there, They could have done so much more with her.Bring Firefly Joss, dollhouse sucks

  • jlobrown

Sure. Why not? What would be even better is to bring back Firefly or the Buffyverse and put her in it. Wishful thinking... I know. A guy can dream can't he?

Sorry to be a gushing teen for a minute, but that would be SO BEAST! And seeing Glau as a normal person would be a treat, definitely. I'm just thankful Dollhouse is coming back at all, frankly. She would be an amazing addition.

Anything to detract from Dushku's acting!

Summer? Dollhouse? OH MY GOD! I thought that she would naturally be great as an Active but Summer does have a point. I would love to see her act in a normal role because so far, I haven't seen the extent of how wonderful I know she is.

yeah, summer is a much better actress than eliza, only everybody would like to see her play a "human" character

  • DrXabregas

yes, good show dollhouse, only miss acting from main star, so summer glau can do that and put eliza in second plan, i mean dont kill her, because she`s hot, i like to see her in the show, just not being the main character because she cant act...

Only a few episodes in to Dollhouse here in the UK it's alright, not great so far. What's more interesting to me is to see Summer Glau play more of an extrovert character, we got a glimpse of it in the Sarah Connor chronicles pilot but not since.

Glad there will be a second season!

Thats awesome! Eliza Dushku and Summer Glau together in the same show! Can't wait for season 2 of Dollhouse.

Wow, I just posted on the Eliza being pushy article that it would be cool to see Summer on Dollhouse. All I can say is, I hope this happens!P.S “(a robotic Terminator)” As opposed to an organic one?

I'd be really interested in seeing her play a different type than she usually does - I wonder how Whedon will fit her in?

Eliza Duskhu and Summer Glau in the same show? FOX, you just got a new "Dollhouse" viewer. That's ratings magic right there.

I think this was foreseen a bit back in the TSCC forum. But any Whedon fan worth his/her salt should have known this was going to happen. Personally, I think Ms. Glau would make a very good villainess. Alan Tudyk certainly surprised me as Alpha; thought he was very creepy (that's a compliment).

  • kiryna

Well, I watched Glau's cameo in The Big Bang Theory where she played herself, and looked pretty dull and introverted to me. So I'm actually looking forward to see her in a whole new rol, out of curiosity.

  • LandoFinnigan

Hell yeah she should be in that show. Even if we all would have liked to see her as Echo...And it certainly would be NICE to see her in a different role, even if she would rock as an operative. Hum, let's say Caroline's sister. ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I like Dollhouse, but still can not figure how it was picked up over Terminator. Nevertheless Summer will bring a new life to the show.

Summer would do marvellously as an Active, but it would be interesting indeed to see her playing against type.

This'd be pretty awesome.Although I know Adam Baldwin said to her at the T1 convention that he wanted her to join Chuck if TSCC went under as well.

rock on, now he needs to bring in James Marsters to play the second season baddie and all is well

I like it in theory, but I don't see how they would be able to hire another actor for a recurring character with a tighter budget than what they were given. On a different note, Law_n_Disorder, you either got your character names wrong, or your actresses wrong, but you bring up a valid point; as a Browncoat myself, I have to work to think of her in a role other than that of River Tam, which is my shortcoming, and not that of Ms. Glau.

    May 28, 2009
  • Law_n_Disorder

I think this is a great idea although it will be difficult to see her as anyone else but Sarah Connor.
