Is The Real World headed South?

Following a rash of rumors regarding the next season of The Real World, MTV publicity has admitted that it's considering Key West as the location for the reality show's 17th season, although "no final decision has been made."

Local gossip has it that MTV is in the market for a large space near the beach, but both the network and Key West real estate companies are keeping quiet. "I would not be able to confirm or deny a project," says Rita Brown, of Key West's Tourist Development Council.

The Real World was a pioneer of the reality genre, giving audiences a look at the daily lives of a group of young strangers forced to live and work together for several months. The passage of time has had no ill effect on the series, as ratings are as strong as ever. MTV recently gave producers the nod for another five seasons of the show.

Past installments of The Real World have taken place in London, New York, Paris, New Orleans, Miami, and San Francisco, among other cities.

The real world is about watching attractive people interact and learning from their actions and behavior. I love the locations and living quarters they choose and I find that while some things remain the same, that each person is unique and I like to watch how people change over the season. I get tired of people saying they don't watch it or that they are surpised it is on the air. Well I guess those people never turn on mtv then, it's on all the time. I just watched the Austin premier and it was great, but poor danny. Instead of dissing this show, realize it's was the birth of reality and it's stuck around because it's one of the best.

This show is way past it's prime and needs to get the axe!

I actually had no idea this show was still on the air. Seventeen seasons? Sheesh.

It IS very influential as it's pretty much the grandfather of reality TV (thanks a lot...), but it seems to me that it'd just get stale after seventeen years.

When I read the title, I was thinking the Real World is going south---ratingswise, that is! Frankly, I haven't watch it since Paris--and not even the full season. It just isn't that interesting to me anymore. They should have put this show to bed a long time ago, especially with all the other reality shows that have aired (and overstayed their welcome) on the major networks. The reality show is a dying format and it's time they put TRW on a permanent hiatus as well.
