Please, Mark Schwahn, just put us out of our misery. One Tree Hill has expired, and it's too late to save it. Your once-popular southern soap opera hasn't even been close to decent since Season 6. Remember Season 6? That was when Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton), the main characters, were still actually on the show.
One Tree Hill has become a sorry excuse for a drama -- even for the CW. Season 7 has reduced the former phenomenon to a shell of itself that centers on a dilapidated bunch of generically pretty people with uninteresting problems. Exhibit A: Some girl claimed Nathan (James Lafferty) cheated on Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) -- but he didn't! It's all good. No drama. Wholesome family values. Exhibit B: Brooke (Sophia Bush) and Julian (Austin Nichols) spend their days having sex on the beach and whining about their life choices. Who wants to watch ball-and-chain back-and-forth? Exhibit C: New kids on the block Clay (Robert Buckley) and Quinn (Shantel VanSanten) get closer because ... everyone else is taken. Creative! I'm almost to the point of begging for a cheesy adulterous scandal -- at least that would be fun to watch. That whole ghosts-of-girlfriends-past thing that Clay is dealing with is weak, anyway.
The ratings are down from last season (2.54 million vs. 2.8 million). The thrill is gone. And the show hasn't even made it to the Friday night death slot yet! Do us a favor, Schwahn. End it.

Oh, please. OTH started going downhill in S4, but 4 was still better than S5-S7. I didn't watch 8. Hell, I could barely get through S6 & 7. The show should've ended after S4 or S5. nothing beyond that. S4 should have been the last season, period. S5 is the best post HS season, but it still wasn't on the same level as S1-S4. You see I can watch old school OTH aka the high school years many times, but not the post high school years. They suck.
oh season 7 dint even have the decent soundtracks or catchy voice overs anymore. part of the greatness.
Oh I am so glad to have found this forum, for I was feeling guilty. Finally got around to watch season 7, (been huffing and puffing after Leyton's exit-btw, congrats to Hilarie for the baby) and its horrible. I couldnt believe wat was left of the once so amazing and great show. The show that had fluidity and the characters real, I think someone mentioned on the truth that were this. Season 7 is like a bad soap opera, days of our lives is looking much more attractive to this, I know someone mentioned the whole ludicris of the storylines, and the relationships. The worse part is Clay's dead gfrnd wich was odd and then the stalker tht looks like the dead gfriend? really Mark? and Grumbs and Miranda? and the odd couple. Is like they kept throwing in everything they cud think off. i think I agree with everyone tht Haley is the only redeemin factor, infact the depression is abot the only good subplot althou the whole ha dying mom thng was...plse save some dignity.moreless
The show has always had other plp on besides leyton, Naley was my fav. The show isnt working because the heart is gone thats why and Leyton was not the heart the truth is what it was about. The show has lost something its petty now Brooke is sad all the time and I'm tired of it she needs to be happy finally in her life. Naley has been through alot already and found a light stop messing with them. Mouth needs to be happy for once in life. Skills Love him he needed to find himself. Leyton found peace thank god. Fergie and Dunn need to move and live their life. Quinn and Clay need to leave their parts are not clicking. I know change is good but this show needs an ending, ok this show was my truth and I miss that. This show has lost its meaning I hate that but its true. They want to do what Beve Hill of 90210 did a long run with new plp but even that lost what it was about at one point which is my they brought it back with a new generation and its works. Maybe in 7 yrs the show can come back with a new generation with new problems. Time for a change.moreless
I loved seasons 1 through 6. .....with Lucas and Peyton gone; Haley is the only character with any life and heart left in her, and practically the only reason I am interested in One Tree Hill anymore. Nathan has become boring, nothing new has happened with Brooke since season 5; Clay is only half interesting; Quinn should go back to her husband! I love Skills; he was a great comic relief who had amazing heart, but Mark and the writers decided to shoot themselves in the foot an write him out. I have loved Mouth from seasons 1 to 4, 5 & 6 his character was a little superficial and one-sided(better in season 6), but in season 7 I started to see the old Mouth again; full of integrity, heart, sweetness, maturity....But again the writers seem to want to mess up the show because he has less a role too. I have loved Julian since he was introduced in season 6; I just never lied him and Brooke together. I actually think Brooke would be better suited with Clay, and Julian would be better with Quinn...... Nathan and Haley are still perfect together, and although I said Nathan was boring this season; I still love NALEY and family together. Jaime is as cute and lovable as can be, and perhaps has a little bad-ass in him like his dad did pre-Haley......I love Dan; he is one of the most original characters from being an ass of a (father, husband, brother), manipulator, evil tycoon to murderer to remorseful, redemption-filled man...... [not even going to start on Rachel] I love the relationship Jaime has with every character, especially with his Grandpa Dan.moreless
I agree. I love One Tree Hill! However, I agree that there is very little if any originality left since season 7 started......the spark of the once fantastic drama series has almost burnt out. I think the series should end before it is completely tiring and dead. Haley is really the only character I am interested in tuning in for anymore. I miss Lucas and Peyton, but I am happy LEYTON got their long awaited, much deserved own happily ever after ending while the series was still great! Season 6 should have been the last season of the series.....Then maybe Privileged could have been in the 09/10 tv line-up and had its much deserved 2nd season!
Seasons 1-6 were great. They all had integrity and such a true message. It was what set One Tree Hill apart from the rest. Now the characters have lost heart and so has the show.
S1-S4 were great.
I totally agree. OTH just isn't the same without Lucas and Peyton. I really feel like the show has been weak the past two seasons. The only thing that kept me watching was Leyton, and now that they're gone so am I. I tried to give season 7 a chance but it has disappointed me so much. In my mind OTH ended with season 6, but the CW should take heed and officially end the show now before it gets any worse.
Couldn't agree more. I couldn't even bring myself to watch Season 7, after the horrific Season 6 and the lack of Peyton and Lucas. As far as I`m concerned, One Tree Hill ended after Season 4; anything after that was just a feeble attempt at milking any fan loyalty that remained to the core.
I hate S6 too. S4 should've been the last season. That was a perfect way to end things for good.
i think this article was too kind, how sweet to say even season 6 was close to decent. gawd, love the show, but its been so long since that classic brilliant need to watch every episode oth, back before they started repeating storylines.
the strange exit of two of the core characters was jut another in a long list of reasons to end it, it wasn't a reason to neglect the remaining ones and focus on new characters.
wow, that camping/pot brownie episode last week was horrible... worst ever, it killed me to watch the entire episode.. i agree with the axe
completely agree. show is very slow now. i stopped watching after like the 3rd episode. it's just pointless to watch it anymore with two of the best characters gone as well.
I agree with all of it. Leyton was the reason I started watching the show and the reason I stopped. I'm not home when one tree hill is on anyway since I work 2nd shift but I would tape it or buy it on itunes. Its not worth me buying on itunes anymore. They were they main characters of the show and will always be to me.
it's still ok but not AWESOME as it used to be back then . but i really hope to end this season OR countine the show but make at as good as the last seasons .
Totally agree, I never used to miss an episode but now I hardy ever watch it
S7>S6...Though thats not saying much, lol.
i definetely don't agree... i'm sorry but what's wrong with people these days? And i thin that SEASON 7 is WAY better than Season 6 so far... Leyton's drama is gone finally - i'm sorry they were very boring sometimes and i didn't want them to be kicked out of the show ( i can't say it in different way , because especially Hilarie didn't want to leave at all , but that jackass Chad..)So if you are OTH fan enought you will watch it till its end - even if its 5 years from now... so that's was from me.No offence.:]
One Tree Hill should have ended after season 4. The only reason I watched seasons 5-6 is because of Leyton. How can they continue the show without 2 main characters? I know its been done before on several shows, but its not working on One Tree Hill. I think the ratings are enough to show that OTH should be axed already.
I gave up a long time ago
I agree that without Lucas and Peyton the show's not as appealing. But as long as there are people still willing to watch it why shouldn't it go on. I mean ER ran for 10 more seasons after Clooney left. And NYPD Blue managed to last 12 seasons despite Dennis Franz having 4 different partners duting that time. And Cheers managed to go on even after Shelley Long left.
i definitely agree. Season 6 should have been the last!
S4 sould've been the last!
S4 sould've been the last!
I think the only thing still good in OTH since season 4 is the music...
Is that sh.t still on? That thing had already turned out into pure garbage like 4 seasons ago whe I stopped watching, I imagine now...
OTH should have ended @ Season 4.
totally wrong!!! Season 7 has been great. I think the best out of the adult years. It doesn't need to go just yet. So what CMM and HB are gone....It doesn't make the show any worse. The new actors and fit in great.
I've been thinking the same thing...just finish it so I won't have to waste my time! And this used to be one of my favorites!
I love OTH, but every since Murray and Burton left the show, it is becoming more boring day by day
Thank god, Finally.
I love OTH but I think you are right. It's like a completely different show this season and the problems are kind of patetic one's. I'm also ready to give OTH a really GOOD GOOD BYE!!! Thanks for all these years of drama and romance...
This show hasn't been the same since season 4 but sometimes still watchable. I must say though, the worst part of this show, by far, is Jamie. I really don't care what a 4 year old is doing, and he is so annoying not cute.
Ok, I don't know why everyone is hating on the show so bad. But Season 7 is definitely working for me. It has been a great change this season and even though I miss Lucas & Peyton (somewhat, even though I can still do without Peyton time to time) the show is really good. And that little comment about "Clay & Quinn getting closer cause everyone else is taken..." blah. They two characters were brought on the show obviously to get together. Dummy. If you think OTH has lost its creativity then you are wrong. I've loved Brooke's storylines this season and look at that, Haley is ACTUALLY getting screentime this year. Whaddya know?!
Next week looks even BETTER. See for yourselves. I cant wait for eppy 709.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnvTQ_b6oVA
^^watch that promo and tell me the show is still, "boring."
haha. whatever.
Anyways, TOTALLY disagree with the article.moreless
Bring back Lucas.
YOU'RE WRONG!Okay, the last episode wasn't great, but honestly, I think Season 7 is better so far than Season 6 was as a whole!I think the show needed some fresh faces and the Lucas-Peyton story last season was kind of boring.I'll always watch it just because it's OTH, but I honestly didn't care that much for last season. This season it's making a come back. I'm really surprised that tv.com is giving props to 6 and dissing 7...if anything it should be the other way around. Keep in mind, it's written for a young adult audience...how old is this writer? And numbers aren't everything. Some people ditched after Lucas and Peyton left but I think if they gave this season a chance, they would be very pleasantly surprised!
stephanie lee.... you need to give it a rest - just because you are bored with the show after 7 years doesn't mean you can post this nonsense about the show needing to be axed. I can't stand this season of heroes but for those who watch it and still enjoy it, i say good for them and i hope the show lasts a few more years. Me? i like OTH: i did 7 years ago and still do today. and furthermore 2.54 from 2.8 isn't really a major decline - what would you say about Ugly Betty going from 8 million to 4 million from season 3 to 4. I wish I were a tv.com staff writer - at least I wouldn't be as biased as you
I agree with iggy, im seventeen and this show is addicting, so what if clay is insane seeing his dead wife, it gives some heartbreak, and dan and rachel is a piss off but it is what you expect from both of them. And you cant break up hailey and nate, it wouldnt be one tree hill, and now skills and mouth are regulars, so chill out tv.com sit down and acually watch it before you diss it, its coming back strong and im with the show 100 %.
I'm a guy & I started watching this show 'cause I thought it was just a basketball drama, but then I got really into it. With Season 7, I actually like it, even though Lucas & Peyton are gone. The show is great still & I keep watching it. I have had no complaints about this season & have heard none from others, so why does TV.com think it's a waste of time? If it wasn't good anymore, then the CW would have cancelled it already & stop airing episodes. Tv.com is just being stupid.
i loved the show for while mybe there is a hope if lucas return
Uhh, excuse me, I love this show!
i strongly disagree!!!! mark has managed to create a beautiful atmosphere on oth again and it is going very well even without chad and hliarie!!!! there are incredible new characters and old ones that we love and there have been some very strong storylines so far!!! i still love oth and i 'll keep watching till the end!!!
I tottaly agree. Season 7 i just horiible, i even didnt watch 2 last episodes.
... I just think it needs more Evil Dan. Dan makes the show... And while we are at it... Lets get rid of Rachel.
I disagree. I think it is better than ever without Lucas and Peyton. It was time to do something knew because season 5 and season 6, for the most part, were awfully boring. I am not bored at all this season and love the new characters. Please keep it around.
The show is still great and whoever says it sucks is a moron. One tree hill is one of the best shows around and even though lucas and peyton are gone the show still rules.I am sick of listening to overanalytical jerks telling that the show has gone downhill.
I watched couple episodes in season 1, but I have not watched it since.
I still love this show, so I hope it doesn't end even though it doesn't have the same touch as it did with Lucas and Peyton
Never watched so i don't care.
