Izzard quits 24

Eddie Izzard stared into Jack Bauer's face...and flinched.

Izzard, the famed British cross-dressing comedian, has reportedly quit a guest role on the Fox action series 24, on which Kiefer Sutherland plays tough guy federal agent Bauer, after one day of filming. The parting is being blamed on scheduling conflicts--show producers decided they wanted Izzard for a longer time period, but the funnyman had already committed to filming his own show, The Riches.

Izzard's spokesperson released a statement to British newspaper The Sun, saying, "Unfortunately, 24 producers wanted to option further dates that Eddie was unavailable for as he was committed to the start of his new drama The Riches. It was decided it would be better for him to stand down."

Izzard was playing the role of a villain on the Emmy-winning show. He has been replaced by another British actor, David Hunt, husband of former Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton.

Season six of 24 begins in Janaury, and Fox put a trailer online last week. The show has added numerous big-name actors for gurest roles, most recently Deadwood actor Powers Boothe in the role of the US vice president.

I am a new watcher of 24 meaning I just saw the first season and fell completely in love with the show. I can't wait until the next show starts. This show has the best cliff-hangers I have ever seen. Just when you think it couldn't get any better Wham!!! You are awe struck and screaming for the next installment. I'm so glad I can watch the shows on DVD without any interuptions. Because I would probably have a heart attack waiting. Keep up the great work.

I can't wait for the next season to begin. I love the suspense and the acting. I forget that I am viewing a fiction as I get so engrossed in the action.

Extremely disappointed! That would have been great stuff to see that's for sure. Hope they give us a little clip of what might have been at least.

I was looking forward to Eddie Izzard being part of the show, but at least this way he doesn't have to die at the hands of Jack Bauer. With the greenlight given to The Riches it is not surprising that he couldn't do both.

No great loss as far as I am concerned; with all the people they have on this show now, probably won't even notice much.

Shoot! Izzard would have probably brought me back into watching the show again. Well- looks like I'll be switching in-and-out for the Powers Booth scenes.

Awe *put in any foul word here*. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing him this season. Well, I still have Powers Boothe to look forward to.

No big deal really. He committed to a small guest role, producers wanted him for longer, he couldn't do it because of his own new show. Happens all the time. And 24 signs a new guest star because they don't want production to be delayed. Douesn't sound like anyone really lost, unless you desperately wanted to see Izzard on the show.

What a bloody ponce (To borrow a phrase from across the pond). That trailer that was shown a few weeks back only quenched my 24 thirst. I can't wait for January, it just won't get here fast enough!!!!
