Jessica McNamee makes space under the Rafters

Packed to the Rafters actress Jessica McNamee has announced her departure from the sitcom after two years and three seasons, in order to pursue "other projects", according to the Daily Telegraph.

There were hints dropped in the recent edition of Who magazine, that she is picking up her studies where they were left off prior to Packed to the Rafters becoming a major success and dominating her time.

Also, after starring as a love-torn soul in Home and Away in 2007, McNamee is probably tired of playing relatively one-dimensional, man-orientated characters.

“Any opportunity I get to do something a bit different -- a bit controversial -- I grab," she told the Telegraph.

In Rafters, McNamee currently plays Sammy on the popular sitcom, whose character has been characterised by a fraught on-off relationship with her husband Nathan, portrayed by Angus McLaren

McNamee’s last episode goes to air on Seven in September, but will not be sitting around twiddling her thumbs. She stars in the upcoming Australian horror movie The Loved Ones, which will be released at the end of September 2010.

Now it just remains to be seen how the production team will dispose of her! Tragic car accident? Peanut allergy? It remains to be seen...

Are you going to miss McNamee on Packed to the Rafters?
