Fun fact: the addition of Jimmy Smits to any cast automatically makes any project cooler, even when the project in question is Fox's latest attempt to cash in on an established property because they've run out of new ideas. The actor, who was the best thing about the final seasons of Sons of Anarchy and who will next be seen in Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down on Netflix, has joined the cast of 24: Legacy, according to Deadline.
The potential series, which dares to star someone other than Kiefer Sutherland because I guess he finally decided he had more important things to do, follows Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as Eric Carter, a soldier who returns to the U.S. embroiled in a terrorism plot that forces him to ask CTU for help in saving his life and obviously stopping the most devastating terrorist attack the entire universe has ever seen. Smits will play John Donovan, a powerful U.S. Senator with bigger political dreams, a role which should probably come easily to Smits given the fact he already played a member of the House of Representatives running for president on The West Wing.
The pilot also stars Miranda Otto, Anna Diop, and Teddy Sears.
What do you think of Smits' casting? Does it make you mildly more interested in watching 24: Legacy if it goes to series?
I find it funny that both the Bourne-less Bourne movie and the Jack-less 24 contain the word "Legacy". Tempted to say they should have chosen a different word to go with 24 in the title.
The ONLY exception to that was the 24 revival, "Live Another Day", in which FOX decided to be lazy and only order 12 episodes (probably because they weren't sure how it was gonna do), so the 12th and final episode took place over an entire night, and thus breaking the "events occur in real time" thing.
Also, there was the made for tv movie, 24: Redemption, which was meant to bridge the gap between seasons 6 and 7, where the movie was two hours long, events occurred between two actual hours, and events occurred in REAL TIME.
Conclusion......what made 24 the legend it is today? This....
"The following takes place between XX:XX and XX:XX. Events occur in REAL TIME."
Oh, and Keifer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, being bad ass, shooting first and asking questions later, with an obligatory "damnit!" and "We're out of time!!" AT LEAST once per episode....
What ever you try to do to lure me in to watch this I just will not. I know Fox has scrapped throuth the barrel into the one below it ideas wise but just leave the series till Kiefer is ready to come back or you have the sense to let Yvonne lead it.
