Joss Whedon + FX = A Great Idea

... Joss Whedon, the much-worshipped guy who hasn't had a hit since Angel, may finally be learning his lesson and preparing to ditch network television. The show creator with a penchant for musicals is meeting with FX. Why? Is it for a new show? Is it a book club? Is it to figure out what gift to get TNT for its birthday? We're guessing it's for a new show. [Matt Roush's Twitter]

... That Star Trek thing did okay, so let's see what else this Gene Roddenberry guy has to offer. Production house Imagine Television is in discussions with Gene's son Rod (Rod Roddenberry? That Gene is cruel) to develop his dad's The Questor Tapes for TV. The pilot, written in 1974, imagined a world where televisions were merely inches thick, phones had touch screens, and movies could be "downloaded" from a series of tubes. [The Live Feed]

... $3500 / 1BR Tribeca! Live with a Star! One room in a fab too-bedroom available IMMEDIATELY! Having trubble paying rent, but don't want to give up this aewsome apartment! Maybe out of town filming guest roles (if I can still get them, LOL!). Must be willing to put up with my BS, and must also pay last 3 mos. rent. Fans of The Beautiful Life preferred. Call [redacted] and ask 4 Mischa Barton. [Associated Press]

... We all know that Lost's Ben Linus is a creepy dude, but OH MY GOD LOOK AT HIM! [NY Post]

... TNT continues to get more awesome with each passing minute. The network has given up on its tough-girl Emmy-winning dramas and is focusing more on ass-kicking manly programming. The net has picked up a pilot from Steven Spielberg starring Noah Wyle about the aftermath of an alien invasion. The net has also picked up two other pilots, but they're not about zombies, aliens, or baseball, so who cares. [THR]

... Maybe this explains how Jay Leno was able to reclaim his show despite public outcry over the late-night talk-show debacle: He's got friends in high places. Leno will be hosting the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner in May. Admit it, you would trade places with Jay Leno in a heartbeat. [TV Guide]

People still talk about Joss Whedon? His only half-decent credit was Buffy and even that wasn't spectacular. Quite frankly, the guy is nothing special and doesn't deserve any attention. When I go see the upcoming Cabin the Woods, I won't be seeing it because Whedon co-wrote and produced, it'll solely be because it looks like a half-interesting film.

Is there maybe a chance that Dollhouse is moving to F/X. It would be a much better fit on a cable network. Joss really should've started looking at the cable networks the day Angel got canned.

Didn't Mike Farrell star the original Questor Tapes pilot? ALL I really remember from that movie was the android coming to life and picking out facial parts (or do I have some confused false memory).

Joss and FX? NOW he wises up! After Fox ruined Dollhouse. After UPN torched Firefly. Joss is brilliant until it comes to dealing with the networks. Maybe Fillion and Dusku finally whapped their creative pal in the head and said "Go to cable networks!" TNT is indeed awesome. And Leno? Not so much.

make dollhouse2: the future, and why we're at it, whoevermade V should movie it to the syfy channel after this season and let Joss bring back Dark Angel since his show ruined it in the first place.

Joss just needs to stop dealing with FOX. At least Dollhouse made it further than Firefly.

The visions of Whedon and Roddenberry. I can already tell this will be a good day.

I HOPE to god that Joss is planning another show. And moving away from Fox would be a good idea too.

I'm up for Whedon going anywhere where he could work on a Firefly/Dollhouse type show without the constant fear of cancellation.

Wasn't The Questor Tapes actually a series, as well? Which would make a new series another reimagining/remake. I'd be more interested in a remake of Earth: Final Conflict staying focused on Will Boone.

Gene Roddenberry was a vissionary man. No doubt about that.
@Bottron: Whedon has nothing to do with the Questor Tapes. Those are two separated news bits that have nothing to do with each other.

For those busting FOX's balls. Is Joss really leaving FOX or moving just a few blocks down to the FX studios?

I am sure whatever it is it will not be music heavy. It takes way too much effort to pull off and the FX audience would not put up with that.

If Joss Whedon has anything to do with the Questor Tapes I will be exceedingly depressed. For some reason people don't seem to get that when Joss Whedon got control of Dollhouse, he still fumbled the series and the first four episodes of season 2 were as bad, if not worse, than the first five episodes of the first season. After that I've decided that I like people around Joss Whedon more than Whedon himself, like David Greenwalt (Angel) or Tim Minear (Firefly) who is actually rumored to be in negotiations as producer of the new Questor Tapes.

Ah, I remember the Questor Tapes movie, I was a kid, but for some reason that story has always stuck with me. Cool.

this all probably has to do with the fact that fx is loosing nip tuck this year so why not get something from joss and the roddenberry thing seems like fun.

I think that FX will be a good place for Whedon. he cna have more control over his ideas and can go a bit further with them then on network. As for not having a hit, It depends on the definition of hit. If it means commercial success where the network renews the show before ever seeing it, then no he hasn't. But if it means having a loyal fanbase who write letters and buy DVDs and go to conventions long after the show has ended, even getting a movie out of the deal. Then he has had hits since Angel.

weadon needs to make shows like buffy or angel. and not space/thriller opera shows like he does now

(Rod Roddenberry? That Gene is cruel) -LOL

And as for Joss and FX that is awesome news hopefully he will develop a new show and FX unlike FOX can give it and him the respect they deserve, Am I the only one who resents the "Hasn't had a hit since ANGEL" comment. Granted DH may not have reached the same heights but that was in large part due to FOX and its constant screwing over of anything Whedon related. Oh well hopefully Joss and FX make an announcement SOON!

That and Dollhouse was cheesy awful. I love Joss' stuff but Dollhouse was fail.

The only reason Dollhouse failed is because it was put on Friday nights.

At least FX is more loose with what he can put on TV and a 13 episode order will FORCE him to craft a masterpiece or fail (again). At least he's not totally scared off television.
