Joss Whedon shuts down Dollhouse

Joss Whedon knows quality work when he sees it, and he should. As the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Whedon is revered as a god in some of the geekier circles.

While Dollhouse is shut down,
the cast has to stand completely still.

So when Joss thinks that it's time to stop production on a show because he doesn't feel it's going as well as it should, it's time to stop production. Whedon has put his anticipated new show Dollhouse on hold, believing that some of the scripts just aren't Whedon-worthy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Joss has apparently been so busy in the director's chair that he hasn't been able to work on the show's upcoming scripts. So when he finally had a chance to see upcoming scripts, he decided to slow things down a bit to do some rewrites. Production is due to start up again in late September, but given that the drama is a midseason entry, Dollhouse is comfortably ahead of schedule.

Dollhouse stars Eliza Dushku as an agent for a secret organization that specializes in imprinting memories and personalities into its agents, who are hired out for espionage, business, and...pleasure. Though most are blissfully unaware of their situation, Dushku's character soon becomes cognizant of what's going on, and thus begins some big-time drama and action.

Dollhouse isn't the only midseason Fox show to be put on the skids. 24 has also momentarily shut down production so that its producers can improve the direction of the final episodes. According to the show's bosses, they feel that they have the time, so they may as well make it the best darned show it can be. 24 had eight episodes in the can before the writers strike last year, so the political thriller is way ahead of schedule and should experience no delays.

Nothing to worry about here. In fact, if anything, it's a sign of great things to come from both shows.

I think this show isn't my favorite from him, but i do LOVE the show and when someone asks me about his work this is one that i love to mention along with. the other three. I hope its not over i just wish the show could actually have a long term feeling to it instead of "the story will be resolved in two seasons" feel

What he should do is cancel "Dollhouse" and have Eliza Dushku renew her role as Faith. There are many great characters from both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel which could be brought back from time to time. Maybe locating the show in Paris and other new wrinkles could make the show different enough from the former 2 shows to begin a new chapter in the life of a slayer and still have a fresh feel to it. I thought both Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer made for some of the best entertainment on tv. I would love to see a show centered around faith do the same thing.

At least Joss will have time to put together some kind of ending, as FOX noted in the cancelation notice. http://snarkfood.com/fox-promises-proper-ending-after-dollhouse-canceled/35614/

Well this all seems to be well and good,if you got the time you may as well use it to improve the quality of the show. With Dollhouse being a new show Joss will know that if it isn't right from the get go it could have a short lifespan.

I'm looking forward to Dollhouse, I hope that FOX gives it a chance, and doesn't end it prematurely like it does to other great shows, ie: Firefly & Arrested Development. If Whedon thinks it's un-himself-like then it probably is, obviously, he knows what the scripts should be like, and I trust his judgement.

The title seriously freaked me out! I mean misleading much? I was so excited for it. But, I do love Joss' shows, so he'd know if it wasn't up to par. Hopefully, it'll be even better when they do air it. =)

Dollhouse does sound like it's going to be a great series. However, it will annoy me big-time that they are also "rented out" for pleasure... Yuck! I just hope it won't be too much sex focus or nudity, seeing as almost every series got it nowadays.

To be honest I would prefer an Angel movie or another spin-off. xD They should have think of a spin-off with a guy whitout any sort of power, but with the heart of the greatest hero, Xander. I don't read the buffy's season 8. I dunno if Xander is still with in the buffy's crew 24/7. Because if he is in another town it could have been like Angel. If I understood well, many member of the gang was in different places.

Yeah, too bad he didn't read his own script for Alien Resurrection...It would have saved us the bother all those years ago.

Just out of curiosity, how do you figure "Dollhouse" sounds like "Nowhere Man"? Being a big fan of NM, I don't seem to recall any agents implanted with false memories & personalities. Especially none that had anybody becoming brainwashed into becoming a hooker, and then realizing they weren't hookers and getting really, really mad. Did I miss an episode?

I'm looking forward to Dollhouse so if the quality was slipping then I'm glad Whedon is taking time out to improve on it - wouldn't want a sub-standard show

EXCELLENT! Just like with Battlestar Galactica, I'll be content to wait a little longer if that's what it takes to create a superior product.<p>Hats off to Fox! If only they would do something about that trash they call a news show...

This is the way to do it: take the time to do it right. Kudos to Fox (I never thought I'd say that) for giving these guys a chance to polish.
