Justified Will Hang 'Em Up After Season 6

I'm a clinically proven weirdo, so I usually like it when my favorite shows end on their own terms, even if it means not getting to see future adventures. Go out on your own terms, show! Get out before the creativity is gone, program! No, we do not need a wedding episode, series!

But even I'm a little flustered by the news out of the TCAs this morning: FX's Justified will end its run after its yet-to-be-officially-announced sixth season (the series just kicked off its fifth season last week). The decision was made by series creator Graham Yost and star/executive producer Timothy Olyphant, who feel that the series' arc fits nicely in a six-season package. FX president John Landgraf said, "We talked about it a year ago and they felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be served by six seasons instead of seven and I regretfully accepted their decision." You and me both, mister!

The thing about Justified is that it's not showing any signs of slowing down, and the Season 5 premiere was as strong as the show's ever been. But the steadfast rule about TV shows ending "early" is unbreakable: If the creator and star say it should be done, then it should be done.

That means there are probably only 25 episodes of Justified left. And speaking of shows ending, FX also confirmed what was mostly already known: Season 7 of Sons of Anarchy will be the series' last.

I have been meaning to really watch this show for a long time now. I watched the first episode and never continued. I clearly need to give it a real go as so many people speak of how good it is.

Always good to go out on your own terms though, glad more and more shows are getting to do this.

Hint: you should watch past the middle of season 1, then the series changes its character. The first few episodes are a little different, with more emphasis on single stories rather than a story arc (although they somehow fit together).

Really good to hear that as part of the problem initially is that it seemed too procedural, that and watching it made me fantasize about Deadwood's non-existent 4th season too much.

you're right. Show really took off for me as they built story arcs.

I probably should start watching Justified... Everyone says its great, but for some bizarre twist, it fell off my radar

I do like JUSTIFIED very much, and I rather seeing the show getting a quick death than an slow, agonizing death. That´s the way JUSTIFIED should end, at the top of their game, sharp and quick as a Raylan´s bullet or a Crowder thought.

The show started off small world, very thick community storylines. It was fun, and anything outlandish seemed outlandish. The show's world has been getting bigger and bigger and is now huge out of nowhere (despite Raylan's Florida ties), and everything felt very thin. Obscene is the new outlandish. I still think the show is fun, and I love the characters, but I hope they reel it back in a little and end well. This isn't a show that needs to go out closing every hole and storyline, just keep it how it is/was.

You're a crazy person, Tim. Season 5's premiere was nice enough, but it was definitely feeling like a show that didn't know where it wanted to go, while also trying to repeat beats from past seasons. So 6 seasons is fine by me, so long as they don't pull some crap where Raylan gets killed - IMO, characters like this need to live on in the audience's imaginations.

Plus, as I said last week, this means the chances of it pulling a Dexter are slimmer.

NO!
First Spartacus ends, then Breaking Bad ends then we hear both Boardwalk Empire and Justified are going to end soon.
There are a few decent new shows but nothing on par with the shows above;-(

I have been out of the loop for a while and your comment is the first news I had about Boardwalk Empire....

Having now read up on the news I am truly gutted, I had hoped that even if Buscemi didn't want to continue they could keep on going, Al Capone has only just begun to flourish in terms of storyline. To hear that one more season and it's done is sad news indeed, even if like Justified it will go out on its own terms.

#SixSeasonsAndAMovie Raylan is good for the big screen as a matter of fact. An epic showdown of Marshall Givens and his never ending supply of bad guys.

I agree with this decision. Although I don't love the show as much as @Timspot

At least we still have almost two whole seasons more of amazing characters and outstanding dialog to look forward to. Until the end actually comes, I'm going to stick my head in the sand and pretend that my favorite show will go on forever

I remember watching a discussion between Walton Goggins and Timothy Olyphant online before season 4, and Olyphant said he thought they were about halfway through. It looks like they've been planning this for a while.

Justified is my favorite show, so this stings, but at least they are going out on their terms, and I fully expect them to give us an incredible final two seasons.

Bummer. Now we can only look forward to one more season after this one. Why not seven? Seven's a good number... I'd rather have them finish on their own terms... but I'm going to miss Raylan and Boyd a lot.

This is heartbreaking. Such an incredible show. Having said that, at least its going out while it's still amazing.
It also doesnt feel like Justified has been on for that long.

Man i was hoping for at least 7. U think FX would want it, so it can use it to jump start other series. Since Sons of Anarchy is gonna be done this year. But I'm glad it's going out on it's own. It should come full circle i hope with Raylan & Boyd going at it in the final season. Every season has been real good. I'm gonna miss this show big time.

Six seasons and a movie, perhaps?

I'm happy it is ending on its own terms but this just feels so sudden. I always forget just how far into its run Justified is because its so consistently good.

I think it's also because of the shortened seasons.

I'll also miss the show terribly, but I am happy it will go while it's still great. Besides, this way I can justify buying a DVD box set (pun very much intended)

Worst tv news ever. I'm calling a Raylan v Boyd show down for season 6. Boyd as the season bad is a very exciting prospect.

Six seasons is a damn good run for a great show. I'll miss this one when it goes far, far more than I already miss BrBa

Even though ending at season 6 might assist in wrapping things up into a neat bow, I'm still terribly bummed.

I vote for a Boyd or Tim spin-off!
