Keanu Reeves Is Producing and Starring in Rain, a New Assassin Drama Based on the John Rain Novels

Keanu Reeves is headed to the small screen.

According to Deadline, the star of such films as The Matrix, Speed, Point Break, Constantine, and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure will produce and star in the action series Rain, based on the book series by Barry Eisler. The project—which doesn't yet have a network to call home—will be distributed and executive-produced by Slingshot Global Media.

Reeves will play the title character John Rain, a Japanese-American assassin who makes his killings look like natural deaths. Chad Stahelski, Reeves' Matrix stunt double, and David Leitch, who did stunt work in Reeves' 2005 film Constantine, will executive-produce along with Reeves and Eisler.

Sounds interesting....not enough action adventure shows on TV. Hopefully they'll get on a network that doesn't mind spending more then two eppys on a series before canceling. Should definitely stay away from the major networks and try for FX, AMC, heck even Sundance, probably have better chance.

I'd be more excited about this if it was being done without Keanu in the starring role. He is a member of a very dubious club of actors. You know...very lucky, albeit not so good actors that land starring roles in movies that make them look like really good actors. But who knows, maybe he'll luck out again. After all, he does know kung-fu.

"and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" - How do you even need to list any other film he starred in when you have this undeniable masterpiece setting the golden standard, not only for his career, but all film making in general? And to list it last? For shame!!

so he's famous for a trilogy of kung fu movies & plays a type of homeless samurai in another & we are supposed to buy him playing Japaneese-American...Yeah, I can actually roll with that. What I can't get past though is that the dude can't actually act in anything he's ever been in, so when I say I can "roll with it" what I mean is, I can roll over & play dead when it airs. & trust me, I can play dead far, far better than Reeves can...& I'm just a total ammeter

Sounds like he's trying to redeem '47 Ronin'. I dunno, but like anything that could be good...I'll give it a shot. If it's no good, it's no good. But when Keanu is in his comfort zone as a character, he's pretty entertaining.

Keanu Reeves is a Lebanese born Canadian of Chinese, Hawaiian an English decent. Someone's going to complain about him playing a Japanese-American. "You hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability."

This sounds okay. Honestly, if it was someone other than Keanu Reeves I probably wouldn't be interested in seeing it. But since he's one of my favorite actors, I'll give it a try.

"A Japanese-American assassin who makes his killings look like natural deaths?" Just as an idea for a TV show it sounds terrible. Not seven season material. But knowing that it's based on a book series (which I have not read), maybe there's something more to it.

Most shows that run for 7 season dont have material for 7 seasons...

Very interesting. I started one of these books a while back but was sort of meh about the whole spy/assassin/super agent schtick at the time so I gave it up. Might have to go back and give them another shot.
