Kelsey Grammer building Empire

In the life cycle that is television, individual shows may come and go, but Kelsey Grammer isn't going anywhere. The actor's resume almost guarantees that he'll have no problem finding work, particularly in the half-hour sitcom format.

Grammer, best known for his portrayal of Dr. Frasier Crane in both Cheers and the spin-off Frasier, was most recently employed getting laughs as a news anchor on Fox's Back to You with fellow sitcom heavyweight Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond). However, that show was recently--and surprisingly--canceled by Fox a little more than a week ago, leaving Grammer without steady work.

It didn't take him long at all to find a new gig; Grammer has signed on to star in the new ABC pilot Roman's Empire, according to Variety. He'll play the lead, a quirky, filthy-rich dude who has to deal with his girlfriend's annoying family.

For those keeping score at home, Roman's Empire is yet another American adaptation of a UK show.

Whereas Grammer can practically sneeze and get an acting job, others are just starting to see theirs take off. Rapper Bow Wow (nee Lil' Bow Wow) is apparently putting the mic down in order to concentrate on acting. His first regular gig will be as a stand-up comic on Entourage, where he'll be one of Eric's clients.

"After 16 years in the music industry and six successful albums, I've decided to shift my energy to something else I'm passionate about, acting," Mr. Wow told E!. "I'm going to try to be the next Will Smith."

Bow Wow previously starred in Roll Bounce, and had parts in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Smallville.

I actually liked Back to You-no it didn't compare

to Cheers or Frazier-but what could? An actor

needs brilliant words/brilliant script to be

brilliant. Back to You made me laugh and Kelsey

and Patricia had chemistry. I will give his new

show a try, simply because he's in it.

Good god. Yet another American remake of a British show. What is it about the Americans that they keep on doing this kind of thing? Nine times out of ten the American remake is a poor copy, not lasting long. If it gets past the pilot at all. As much as I like Grammer I won't watch this show. I'm, as you can probably tell, getting annoyed with American remakes of good tv shows and movies from other countries.

Grammer is stale and over. Let more investors waste money on him. Hasn't he had enough opportunity in the business?

And Heaton was over after Raymond. Retire already!

Alright he's on a new show! Not sure that this one is going to last if the networks have anything to do about it though. I loved Back to You- it was hysterical! The only thing about it I didn't like was when they changed the actress playing Gracie- the new one sucked!!! She was horrible!!! That's what tanked the show!!! Anyway, Grammer is funny no matter what he does, but I am crying for Back to You. FOX sucks!!! And Lil Bow Wow is a very good actor...atleast he was good in Roll Bounce. As for him being the next Will Smith- now that's laughable! Although stranger things have happened. I totally agree though about his name- it's completely ridiculous!! And it's always been ridiculous...even when he was a kid- it was just stupid. I can't believe his parents let him use that name- I was embarrassed for him.

frasier is the best comedy ever for me, and english isn't even my mother tongue. i fondly remember watching that brilliant show and laughing til i fell off the sofa. other shows has never did anything close to that. will and grace was ok, friends was so so, seinfeld was good, but frasier, it's the best!

Ok for Grammer but I would like to see P Heaton in a decent show. And why are we always using UK shows, are we out of original ideas?

Nice to hear that 'Fraiser' will be on something new -- but like others have said, he's not a strong lead character by himself. He's great in an ensemble cast where they all play off each other so well. The problem is that magic is hard to find again. Here's wishing well to Kelsey.

Cheers and Frasier were great shows because they were ensemble-driven. Put Kelsey Grammer on a show with a herd of C-level talent (Fred Willard was the only other funny cast member on Back to You) and it flops. He can't carry a show by himself. Hopefully, they'll put some good co-stars alongside him. I like Grammer, but maybe he just needs to take a TV break for a bit.

This show could be good, although it does kinda sound like just a mix of arrested development and dirty sexy money

Back to You was AWFUL... glad it got canned, but I think Grammer should just stick to producing more cool shows like Medium and give up comedy...

Why is Kelsey Grammer even want to star on a show? He's rolling in millions executive producing everything and Frasier royalties

Honestly, I would watch Kelsey Grammer read the phone book. Granted, I find it tough to see him as anyone but Frasier, but that doesn't actually bother me!

Bow Wow just needs to go home... he can't rap/sing/act.

So glad people like Bow Wow can just decide "ok i'll do some acting now", it kind of makes me a little sad, considering much more dserving real actors are waiting in line dreaming of getting that kind of shot someday.

On the flipside Kelsey Grammer is a great performer and deserves having such a low barrier to good TV work....although it took a while to grow on me, a shame Back To You got cancelled, then again if Romans Empire is better and provides a more solid performance for him then i'll be all for it.

One thing Back To You never managed to truly do was to get me to stop missign his Frasier character. Now, i dont beleive he should be type casted or anything, but Frasier was such a brilliantly written and performed character role, and "Chuck" didnt hold much of a candle to it. Perhaps, this UK adaptation will be just the ticket to do a better job of that from the sound of it.
