Kidnapped gets kidnapped

NBC has pulled Kidnapped off its schedule. The series will be replaced with a repeat of Law and Order: Criminal Intent this Saturday.

Kidnapped had originally aired on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m., premiering to a mediocre 2.8 rating in 18-49s and 7.5 million viewers. When the show shed viewers each week, it was moved to Saturdays, and production on the series was cut back. The show was scheduled to wrap after filming of the 13th episode, which is the number of episodes NBC had committed to airing.

Last Saturday's Kidnapped airing drew a 1.2 rating/4 share in the 18-49 demo, with 3.8 million viewers overall.

The decision of NBC to pull a show it had expressed a commitment to puts the future of another NBC show into doubt. On Monday, rumors swirled that struggling Aaron Sorkin drama Studio 60 On the Sunset strip would be canceled, but on Tuesday the network said it was happy with the numbers the show was drawing.

The DVD set is excellent - this is a high quality production with a chilling tease at the end for the next season, a season that sadly will never come. One of the highest quality shows ever produced. NBC rots, but the DVD set is well worth adding to your collection.

Dude. this freaking sucks. I live in Malaysia, Asia, and well, I'mma just say people here love Kidnapped. It shows on AXN. www.axn-asia.com and it's like really popular here. I'm not just saying. When we heard that NBC was going to kill Kidnapped we were sorta pissed and all, but what can we do? Who gives a heck about the ratings? People still watch the show! Heck, I didn't even know about NBC before Kidnapped. Yeah. Sue my tiny knowledge about the media world. :/ But still why kill the show just because of what them critcs say? Geezus. They are actually REAL fans out there. So, screw the ratings and start shooting. End of story.

OK, the first problem is with the timing, I mean I know for myself I have to work the next morning, So thats why I started recording it, on the other hand how many people are actually sitting home on a Saturday Night, So again I would record it... If you took a chance and played the show at a normal time like 9:00 pm I bet you would have a wonderful turn out especially with the amount of people that have been told about the show by word of mouth! This is just my suggestion... I would love to see another season of Kidnapped!

once again a great show is cancelled and replaced with crap. how many pedophiles do we need to see get caught on dateline? I will continue to watch on line. maybe NBC can think of another lame "reality" show or gameshow to replace kidnapped. now that's fine television!

These ratings means nothing. "Kidnapped" could be very popular abroad, but how can we watch the series now if they are available only inside the USA?

Hay - NBC didn't completely screw us - they're continuing the episodes, but you have to watch them online at http://www.nbc.com/Kidnapped/

Click on the link that says watch episodes online (it's in the middle of the page).

The new episode from this week is already there and next weeks episode will be posted online on Friday, Nov. 10.

Maybe there is some hope it will end up back on TV if enough people access and watch from the site.

Thanks again NBC, maybe you can start giving out jars of Vaseline for fans of your new shows. This way, maybe, it won't hurt so bad when you screw us. I'll watch "Heroes", but that is IT for NBC. Brandon & Fred I hope you are not seeing any of this. It's an embarrASSment to both of your "thoughtful" programming styles.

I would just stop watching NBC all together.... but damn I love Heroes so much. I just won't pick up any of their new series. I know I am not alone here. They really blew it with the whole one night trial on Sat with a promise to finish the story. Webisode plays or not, this is just lame.

This is so annoying! Just when we think we will at least get a conclusion, it sounds like they are pulling it off for good. How are reruns of L & O better than a fresh show?! I have never figured that out. It makes me not even start to watch shows in the fall, because I get interested in them, only to have them cancelled before the conclusion. No wonder ratings are down! Duh! If they show them on NBC.com, that is not good enough. I don't want to sit at my computer for hours watching TV. My TV is a HD 53 inch. MUCH nicer to watch things on!

the whole thing really sucks. not a big shock that fans have been and continue to send emails etc to NBC over the whole thing with Kidnapped. Cause as someone wisely said, the ratings system sucks. Now they are adding Sony Studios to the list in the hopes that they will rally behind their show and try to get it put on cable. Maybe HBO or someone would give a **** (I think folks are thinking HBO cause of 6 feet under). if anyone cares to pitch in and voice an opinon there are details on the nbc board for the show http://boards.nbc.com/nbc/index.php?showforum=69

The Neilson ratings are so out of date why someone doesn't come up with a better way ...maybe even an area on the networks internet site for people to list what they truly watch and what they tivo or record so these advertisers and networks will really know what the public wants and is watching. They just turn to cheap reality shows..not because we like them but because they are less expensive to make and I for one think they are utter nonsense..and NBC it's not nice to lie to your loyal viewers.

NBC can't draw and audience because it can promote properly, with the exception of pimping HEROES of course. This sucks for me because I actually WATCH Kidnapped and hoped I could see the remainder fo the episode. Stupid NBC.

The jerking around of saying their going to cancel a series and let it run and then cancelling it is going to hurt them big one day. The trust level is already in the negatives before they go and do something like this.

Ratings are the most important thing for a show. I'm sure they'll show the episodes either later, after sweeps, or on some other network.

I'm sure it'll get more views online than it did on tv; and NBC's response will be, "effing technology."

NBC announced to tv guide later today the remaining episodes will air online at nbc.com

So at least they're allowing the show to air in its abbreviated 13 episode format, even if some air on the dot com. Good for them.

Ruokasi, NBC only broadcasts the show, they don't make money off DVD sales, the only money they make is the commercial time they sell. If it's a high rated show, more companies are willing to spend more for that commercial time.

Bring back E-Ring..

NBC won't be getting any ratings next year if they decide to keep cancelling their shows for new ones, which end up cancelled! I know I can't be bothered to watch a show if it will be canned after a few episodes. It's surely also not good for international broadcasters, if they pay for the rights to a series only to find out it's a waste. And why do ratings matter so much anyway? I heard NBC were going to focus on cheap television in the 8pm hour - so surely the money gained there will make up for any lost later on in the evening? And presumably if they let a show run it's course, people will be more willing to buy the DVD boxset and as a result, NBC would surely make further gains there?

Can someone please explain to me how this is good for NBC? And I mean in a financial way. Since the episodes have been shot and paid for, doesn't it seem like NBC is losing more money by not airing them? And I mean, come on, it was SATURDAY NIGHT. What do you want? I DVR'ed it.

Hopefully it will come out on DVD. Jeremy Sisto is dreamy.

I thought they were going to show the entire season but with a re-filmed finale. Seems it wasn't even worth the wrap-up. Meh. It'll be forgotten by next year. That's TV for you...fast and dirty.
