Kidnapped moves, Smith out

NBC will move Kidnapped, its action drama that has been struggling in the ratings since its premiere three weeks ago, from Wednesday to Saturday, beginning October 21. Dateline will move from Saturday to Wednesday.

Yesterday, NBC announced it was wrapping production on Kidnapped after its 13th episode was filmed--the network had committed to airing the 13. Once Kidnapped has completed its run, Dateline will move back to Saturdays.

CBS's Ray Liotta crime series Smith has been pulled from the schedule. The series, from West Wing executive producer John Wells, has also fared poorly in the ratings.

I find Kidnapped to be well written, well thought out, well acted and well executed. Damn you all for not watching it. Its like 24 but with a brain!

Smith should have been given some more time. I can't believe they bailed out on such a promising show. I guess all you CSI fans get to watch reruns since that actually pulls a higher number then Smith did...sad but true. CSI is good the first time, but who keeps watching these over and over.

Come on whats going on, the first time I really like something new like The Unit and then Smith they cancel it, I was left hanging with nothing to do and on top of that they start to show reruns of old shows, COME ON!!! Fix your programming.

I am so disappointed that Smith was cut. No announcement or anything. My husband and I were already recording episodes on DVR, we never wanted to miss any. This is our all time favorite for this season. Our entire family was turned on to this show. And now it's gone! Why? Why would this be cut when there are other shows that no one wants to watch! I think a boycott is in order!

I was shocked to find out Smith was cancelled. There are other shows that deserve to be axed before this one. Those commercials with the monkeys jumping around in an office must be the CBS programming executive offices. Maybe ABC, NBC or FOX will show more intelligence and pick up this show.

I cannot believe that Smith has been pulled. This show was so good. It was refreshing to see a show with a new twist. Everyone I know was talking about it. I love Ray Liotta.

CBC Execs, if you are reading this... YOU'RE CRAZY for pulling this show. Read the blogs! Please bring this show back!

Smith was an great show with an incredible plotline developing. I can't believe that junk like the following stays on:

    1) Criminal Minds - I watch it off-and-on, but hate it...I keep thinking it'll get good

    2) CSI:NY - just a horrible cast, writing, etc, 3) Close To Home - two of the most worthless prosecutors in TV history

Even the casts of Survivor and Amazing Race are terrible this season...almost as if CBS is deliberately tanking them.

This is really ridiculous. How can such a great show get canned this early. I couldn't agree with the other comments more. Smith gave me a reason to watch network television on tuesday nights. I haven't been hooked on a show like this since entourage. You at least owe the viewers the DVD release.

Please bring this show back, are guys crazy. This show is great.

Guess this decision reflects the lack of CBS excutives knowing what the viewers enjoy. Bring it back, gosh!

I also agree with another viewer about switching from Boston Legal, which I also like. I have a friend who watches Boston and tapes it for me. I liked Smith that much...

I was thinking about the new dual tuner TiVo so I could TiVo both, just for Smith... - Qlippoth

Damn, I was REALLY into Smith. I'm very upset and signed the petition as well. I'm getting sick of networks yanking me around. I hope they release the season on DVD or something, not seeing the rest of the season feels like a personal violation as a viewer... - Qlippoth

To say I am mad that CBS cancelled 'Smith' is an understatement! What an excellent cast! I loved the storyline- it was different. I was so disappointed last Tuesday when I looked at CBS' lineup and instead of Smith saw a CSI RERUN!! Needless to say, I did NOT watch that.
I guess I'll stick to watching ABC, if I watch network tv at all. I record most of what I watch. But not Smith- I was actually sitting and watching that one at 10PM every Tuesday! I even chose Smith over Boston Legal, which I love. I am also reminded why I did NOT cancel HBO and Showtime- because I can rely on them for great shows like The Sopranos and Dexter, to name a few.
    (I love my Dish!)

I agree, shame on CBS!!! What a poor decision. I agree with the others who suggested putting Smith on a different night or in a different time slot.
We only got 3 episodes- what a rip-off!! And yes, please put all existing Smith episodes on DVD so we can see how the story plays out- now that you got us hooked!moreless

  • KkMc7080

I'm not surprised Smith was pulled. Please the show looked like a cheap 80's series on FOX or UPN. Smith didn't look interesting to me at all. It looked like something a teenager could put together. The new shows this season are pathetic, there not really worth getting into. What happened to programming that kept you intrigued, CSI are about the only good drama shows on t.v. the rest are lame, like the new series Shark. Maybe I'm difficult to please, but the networks need to do better. And, even cable programming is weak. Oh well.

GarbonzoDude - Dancing with the stars is Lawrence Welk for the new millennium, that is why it stays. It is more of Entertainment Tonight/Inside Edition. I would rather read a bad book than spend time voyeuring the lives of people I do not know. Smith at least was better than a bad book.

Smith was the only show I was willing to turn the tv on for. Saw all three shows and was waiting for the fourth, but you guessed it CSI-rerun (so wrong). So sad it has been cancelled, it was really a great show. I even spent a few minutes of my time to sign-up to this forum just to post this comment.

I am very disappointed that the network pulled the show. Tuesday night is my night to watch TV this is the first time in years that I can watch one channel for three hours and not surf. Smith was not my favorite, but it was growing on me. I have seen almost every episode of every version of Law and Order through reruns and I like that show- but I like NCISa lot more (which by the way took a few episodes for me to warm up to it) and I love the UNIT. Smith is an added bonus, it keeps me on their channel and isn't that the goal? I even tivo Tuesday nights to (rewatch later in the month when I am bored) as I watch it (all three shows). For the network to give up onit that quick makes me want to tivo my shows and just skip through commercials and avoid their sponsors altogether.....

I watched CSI for several years, but it's time to move on......

Protect the shows we do like or we will end up with soap operas on 24 hours a day 7 days a week ..... Guess we can go back to watching HBO or Cinemax.moreless

Cancelling a show when you still have episodes in the can is mornonic. I won't be watching CSI re-runs! Smith was smart, exciting and well written - huge step from the usual fare. Very disapointed.

If you are upset that CBS cancelled Smith, consider filing a complaint. With enough viewer complaints, CBS may reconsider its cancelling of the marvelous fast-paced Smith with its excellent cast including Ray Liotta, Virginia Madsen and Simon Baker and the show's superb writing.Blame it on CBS's bad marketing, its only giving the show three episodes of airtime, and CBS's lack of promoting online viewing of earlier episodes of Smith forthose who needed to catch up.CBS could have given a better re-cap at the beginning of episodes for new viewers just tuning in. It could have re-run the episodes during off-hours, much like Bravo does, to allow viewers to catch up. To complain, call CBS viewer relations at any time day or night to leave a message, or, to reach a live person, call during the hours of 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. EST - telephone CBS viewer relations at 212-975-3247.You may also email audsvcs@cbs.com (short for audience services). You may also go to CBS's feedback form online to submit your complaint at http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.shtml Smith is still listed in the shows on that feedback form. You may also sign this online petition to CBS to bring back Smith. http://www.petitiononline.com/cbssmith/petition.htmlmoreless

I am so disappointed that SMITH has been pulled, not because it was any good or not but the fact that these stupid american networks dont give things a chance to catch on any more, we have seen such good programmes taken away such as HEIST, INVASION, THRESHOLD all taken away when the promise was there of a good series, as my alien wife says 'the american networks are a little too fickle'.

I had been waiting all evening for 10pm to roll around so I could watch Smith. Imagine my disappointment when CSI came on instead. Haven't we had enough of CSI? I'm so tired of them. And I loved Smith.....great cast, great acting, great theme. Why not give it more of a chance? Maybe a new night or time? The networks don't give new shows a chance anymore. I am so bummed.

Kidnapped was good only for the first episode but then it got too boring. Heist was good also for first episode but then it got boring. Smith was different, After watching the first episode I can't wait to watch the second and then the third and continue with excitment so I think Smith must be a good show because I only like Hero and Smith and follow them. I don't even watch Lost anymore last year but watch the first episode though. Looke interesting again I guess. I will watch lost this season.

I watch all the new shows and Smith was definitely the best show around. I was waiting till 10 to watch it. I didn't even watch the other shows and surf the web instead. Something wrong with CBS. They have the best show but maybe humans didn't know much about this show yet or undiscovered. My guess is this nation is christian and christians don't like to watch the bad guys as heros but then maybe the story could change as we keep on watching. Maybe the plot is the whole plan was to save enough money to do a great thing or save the world. I guess that way believers will love the villains later and called them heros again. I dunno. CBS must have dumb managers. They cancel the best show this season. Why?moreless

I also tuned in to watch Smith tonight. It was on the TV Topics schedule, so I was bummed to see CSI in it's place. Isn't CSI on enough already? I was really getting involved with this show. CBS advertised the heck out of SMITH for months prior to it's debut, I think probably more than any new show. And now it's gone after only 3 shows? What are people watching on Tuesday night? There's actually something better to watch at 10 pm? With the cast alone, I'd think Smith would have been a popular show. What a bummer. Stinks!

  • GarbonzotheDude

Wow..."Smith" is kaput and looks like "Kidnapped" is toast too. I actually found both those shows interesting but they're sunk.

Either I have bad taste in shows, or something is amazingly wrong when a show like "Dancing with the Stars" can continue to get rave reviews and viewers while shows with actual acting and storylines tank.

...or at least tank as much as getting pulled by the networks. Maybe CBS should put a CSI: Pittsburgh in Smith's place and NBC should put Law & Order: Misdemeanors in Kidnapped's place.

Bah...what a joke regular TV is anymore. At least most of the the "off" channels give a show one year to work or not. The main network TV channels is giong further and further into the toilet. Unless you want to watch 500 "reality" shows a week.moreless

funny...im reading some of the other posts and saw that people turned on the tv to watch smith, only to see another csi on....yeah i wasnt pleased, but honestly, enough with the csi...i know people like it but man its gotta get old soon...I dont usually watch tv, and the only shows i did watch was heroes, smith and lost, but i guess cbs doesnt like showing decent original shows with good actors....maybe if they had that red haired dude from csi miami in it the ratings would go up, or ray liotta should just start looking at the camera from a sideways angle with a weird look on his face, i dont know, whatever works

I am so mad that CBS Would be so inconsiderate and cancel a show so early in the season, not to mention they were right in the middle a Jewelry heist!

Everyone should call CBS Television Network and complain! They gave it a terrible time for a new show but I loved it. Who knows, maybe if they get enough complaints they will put it in another time slot. Personally, I think it should have been on @ 9pm on Thursdays, right after Survivor. CBS: 212-975-4321

Do not know how you can pull a show off the air after only 3 episodes, turned the tv on at 9pm to watch Smith and see that CSI is showing instead! In my household 7 people were already into that show! So much for Tuesday nights on CBS. I'm sick of CSI every night of the week!

CBS execs must be doing Timothy Leary's vitamin diet! of acid and Captain Crunch. I haven't watched Network tv in years and just happened to see a fall line up prequel with Juliet Dreyfuss with my wife a month ago. Needless to say, We were impressed with the show's high calibre acting and it's darker "Mission Impossible" theme morphed wife "Leave It To Beaver" theme. In other words, it was actually an original idea.

So CBS takes a show off the air with the population of the state of FLORIDA watching it. Could it be moral values? Maybe they should have Mark Foley as the sick Uncle in the basement to increase ratings that has ties to N.Korea and Iran, but using children as his minions. I guess these idiots do drink Koolaid and probably will create a show for next season with Mel Gibson, Director of "Passion of the Christ", called "Stigmata Effect" with Jack Nicholson as Christ and Nicole Kidman as Mary Magdaline.I am sure this show will be cancelled too. I now actually understand why I pay $110.00 a month for all the cable shows andd multipe dvrs in my home because most of the stuff networks put out is crap and they keep it up despite ratingsdecline year after year. I and my wife say, "They can take their CSI's and other rip off shows and ram it down their respective arses to parapharse Sean Connery. I rest my case, CBS, you can only get better than what you did here. If worse, your ratings will go lower than MSNBC,lol!moreless

Why is Smith being cancelled? It's clearly that you guys haven't a clue to what good t.v. is. You can't justify pulling a show just after 3 episodes, give people time to get settled in and know the stations its airing. This isn't fair to the people and I'm truly disappointed in the network.

Preview Comment:What is WRONG with you people? I like the shows. I have shown the pilots to my husband and he actually liked them & said he would watch them with me! [He views golf & sports.] Some together time, yea! But NO. Some mongoloid decided the shows just weren't making it? How in hell do you expect to get an accurate reading when only three episodes have aired! Do you think that 'Mr. Joe Blow'out there doesn't have hiccups in his life, might miss an episode because there was no TV in the emergency room? I agree with my fellow viewers that these were programs with a new approach, kind of refreshing. Yes, Smith was complex. You actually had to watch with your eyes and mind to catch the subtle nuances that tie things together. WHY in the blue-eyed heck DID YOU BOTHER to assemble such a talented bunch of actors and professionals if you were going to give up before you started? You could have used much cheaper day time actors if you were just "testing the waters". What a terrfic wast of time and talent. I agree with BigLou, well said sir. And yes Dawn/goofysun1,it is DONE, that is what they mean by "wrapping production". You get to watch the last ten episodes because someone made NBC commit to 13 episodes. Smart move, Mr. Hutton Since they know theyre cancelled, they will tie it up in a neat little bow for the 13th episode. Mr. Liotta, Ms. Maden, Mr. Hutton et al, I am so sorry. I would not blame any of you if you never came back to television. It is shameful.moreless
