With Jay Leno's departure from the The Tonight Show chair, Conan O'Brien's move an hour up, and Jimmy Fallon's debut in O'Brien's old slot all on the horizon, the late-night talk show scene is about to look a whole lot different.
However, these is one thing that will continue to look the same--ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. The network has extended its contract with the comedian-turned-talk show host, keeping him behind his desk through 2010, says Variety. Kimmel's contract would have expired next year.
Once considered a big underdog in the late-night circuit, Kimmel has grown his audience since his debut in 2003. This season he's narrowed the gap between his show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien and surpassed Late Night with Craig Ferguson for viewers for the first time.
Kimmel, who is dating potty-mouthed Sarah Silverman, was also part of one the year's most talked-about viral videos with Silverman's "I'm F***ing Matt Damon" short, and his response "I'm F***ing Ben Affleck."
Before joining the late-night crowd, Kimmel parlayed a radio career into host of Comedy Central's Win Ben Stein's Money and The Man Show.
