Lachey lands Seacrest-like job

Nick Lachey is about to be surrounded by screaming teenage girls once again.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the former boy-band member has been tapped to host what could be the next reality-television sensation: ABC's High School Musical: Summer Session. The show, which is banking on the power of Disney's tween megahit franchise to bring in viewers, is set to debut in June.

High School Musical: Summer Session is like a high-school version of American Idol, with contestants between the ages 16 and 22 strutting their singing and dancing prowess. The winner of the show will be showered with prizes, including a free ride to a summer music program designed to hone their skills.

Lachey, who got his start as a member of the group 98 Degrees, has leveraged his boyish good looks into a career. In addition to his high-profile stint on Newlyweds with ex-wife Jessica Simpson, he has also appeared on Charmed, Clash of the Choirs, and Dancing With the Stars.
