Jesse L. Martin has joined the cast of The CW's Flash pilot, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

The Law & Order alum will play Detective West, an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). West is the father of Barry's eventual wife in the comics, Iris West.

25 totally unnecessary spin-offs

The Arrow spin-off initially launched during the final episodes of sophomore series' fall run, when Barry traveled to Starling City to help on a case before he was struck by lightning mixed with chemicals in the midseason finale.

The pilot will be executive-produced by Arrow executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti, as well as DC Comics chief Geoff Johns.

Aside from starring on Law & Order for nine seasons as Det. Ed Green, Martin is also known for his roles in Rent and on Ally McBeal. He most recently recurred on Smash.

(Full disclosure: TVGuide.com is owned by CBS, one of The CW's parent companies.)
