Late last week, fans of the sci-fi serial drama Lost were tipped off to the answer to one of the show's greatest questions: When is this all going to end? According to E! Online, ABC was preparing to announce that the show would end after its fifth season.
Turns out E! was partly right. ABC has announced that Lost will conclude after two seasons worth of material--48 episodes--stretched out over three seasons, reports Reuters. Seasons four, five, and six will be 16 episodes each, with the series finale airing in 2010. In addition, the seasons will air uninterrupted rather than take a break midseason.
Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have signed eight-figure deals to remain onboard through the end, and see the end date as a bit of a relief.
"We always envisioned Lost as a show with a beginning, middle and end," said Cuse and Lindelof in a statement. "By officially announcing exactly when that ending will be, the audience will now have the security of knowing that the story will play out as we've intended."
Lost premiered on September 22, 2004, and is currently winding down its third season.

I think we will watch it with much bigger interest. That's great that they gave as some time to rest and then to begin watching. The only minus is that we could forget everything till that time! Two more seasons - will Kate stay with Jack?.....
3 more seasons is a great but i have some complaints but I'll forget about them for this show. How i want it to be over and done with and how i don't want it to end thorn between two sides.
If yall don"t like it don't watch it .but i am happy with it and 3 more seasons is great and we know it will end and not be cancel...just remember Twin Peaks,HBO Carnival,almost lost Jericho,the show about the bank robbery gone bad can not remember the name all great but ended too soon with no answers..be thankful and i am still mad at HBO for Carnival with no ending that just sucks!!!!!thats why I will not buy the dvd!! For what? There is no ending!!!! Be thankful. Wish it was 5 more seasons..

omg i love lost as much as the next person, but im not like omg noo its gonna end in 2010 i dont think i could live with out it, and yeah its only 16 episodes a season but its better then not watching lost at all, its not the end of the world theres more to life then lost, i mean come on why would anyone think it would go on forever when it ends it ends thats it
Yes it may have been a frustrating end to season 3 but season 4 will no doubt explain some of the big questions - not just go on with them not on the island.The new questions are why did Jack go crazy?What happened to make him think they should have stayed on the island?Why did that woman(can't think of her name)say the plane was found with everyone dead?And then there's all the original questions about the island.I think now that they have a definate ending point things will really hot up.
I can't wait to find out.

The show got really bad. If they only would have stoped making it so long and keeping you waiting it would have been a great show. To bad they didn't think about that. Now it's maybe bit to late to fix this big mistakes , but maybe they will realise what is wrong with the show and correct their mistakes.
Does anyone not find the end of the 3rd season a bit stupid. obvisouly they got saved so in season 4 what are they going to do round every1 up and put them bak on a plane and go back to the island

For those of you who don't know, this show was only designed by the writers to last 3 to 5 seasons. They have a very specific tale they want to tell and that is the time frame for it. For those of you who thought this show was going to go on "forever" what did you think was going to happen? There is only so much conflict you can have before everyone gets killed! As for getting answers now or the show will end that is so not going to happen. This show will play out all the way, even though I am in that boat that says I need to have the answers too this show is a huge success. Besides even I watch all the episodes... I just wait until I have 3 or 4 to watch at a time... makes it better!moreless

Sorry, but we have had too many anti-climaxes over the years. We know they will never answer any of the questions and will have to discuss it for ever more just like the Prisoner...fan clubs, conventions etc etc. for 40 years now!!!

This is just saddening. I absolutely LOVE this show. I've always thought this show would go on forever. Well, maybe not to that extent, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's kinda sad to see that this show is just going to end so abruptly.
Yes, this show has loads of drama and more and more secrets are added with each episode, but really people... Is it absolutely necessary that you MUST HAVE answers now?!? Use your imagination!!! The show was created with the vision that you have to use your imagination and try to solve the puzzles for yourself. Pay attention to all the little details.. observe how the characters are linked together. This is a reflection of life. Notice how we are really all connected, even though you may not realize it.
The finale for Season 3 was good, but very disappointing. If lack of interest in this show is going to make episodes turn out like this, i believe they should make this show air as it was supposed to. The show can't end in 2010. It just cant! This show is amazing and it needs to air as it was supposed too, I don't want this ruined like Firefly was, though LOST has played two more seasons than it did.moreless
To be a real Sci-Fi movie I think the final of the movie should link to the Last phrase said by Jack Shepperd: "We Must Go Back". If I were a producer I would make it possible !
It's highly doubtful Lost will be cancelled before its end date. It pulls in around 12 million viewers, 8 from the 18-49 demographic, and about 3 to 4 million more that watch the show on DVR. Plus, the fact that they've set an end date, means they'll strive to reach it. ABC let Alias run out its final season amidst bad ratings, didn't it?
It's just as easy to look up and check the facts, than it is to believe tv.com's sensationalist, anti-Lost bull. Because that's all it is, and that's all its been from at least as early as "Why 24 is Better than Lost", an article which bashes Lost under the guise of tv.com just liking 24 better.
Oh, and now the seasons will act the same as the aforementioned 24, and people didn't lose interst there.moreless

I have been watching Lost on Showtime network (of Showtime Arabia) since the network began broadcasting the series. I think is is a great tv series and I can hardly wait to watch all episodes of season 3...
boring? please then you must not like LOST in the first place.. because if it was up to me, i would have lost on for the 8 seasons that the writer said he could put up with ( at least!) i would love that because that is what lost is all about, mystery, suspense, exciting, never knowing what is bound to happen, and just knowing that there will be a new episode next week (which i hope will be even better than the last) makes me want to watch even more.. since the day it came out, i knew this was going to be a hit, one of the big ones..just wished it would continue longer..
i`m tired of it.. sick and tired .... after 3 seasons i find out that there will be another 3 or 4 it`s starting to be boring ... and it`s becoming Young and Restless type with 1129843 episodes ...

Accidently I saw the first Episode of this serial in the MBC action (In UAE) . I was soo Impressed with tihs serial and so I bought This from the Amazon Season 1 & 2. And also I paid a huge amount of Shipping charge for getting it within a week to UAE from UK. I finished Seeing the two seasons in 2 and half Days.
Then I started downloading the videos of the third Seasoon And Today before 5 Hours (17th may 2007) I have I seen the Last of The lost Edpidoe.
Now There is only One more episode This Season And what will I doo After that .
Some times I feel Soo crazy about the flash backs and it is soo irritating.
Any ways I love this Serial .

No doubt about it, Lost is one the best series to come along, ever. Now what i dont get is y only 48 more episodes, cuz the writer had said (when lost aired in 2004) was that he had written (or would possibly have) scripts that would give for up to 8 season with 22 episodes each.. So i dont mind Lost being 16 episodes each season now, but it would be better if they gave all those 8 seasons (even with these 16 ep each season).. what was stupid was this really big break this year, they lost a lot of people, 13 week break is long considering that it was a new season.. but o well, guess we r just gonna have to stick to those 48 episodes and hope they r the best! (or course they will be! :p)moreless
I like the idea, it makes me think of some of my other favorite shows like Nip/Tuck, The Shield and Rescue Me.
They never play repeats, or skip a week or any of that other garbage. It really helps to sink you into the show, knowing that there is 100% chance of seeing the next installment the coming week.
Fans losing interest shouldn't be a problem over the next 3 years if the story continues to be strong. The only way they lose interest is if there is nothing to be interested in. For those old enough to remember the summer of 1980, the suspense leading up to the reveal of Who Shot J.R.? was huge. That's what makes a show last; the viewers desire to see what's going to happen next? The Sopranos has routinely taken 12-18 months off between seasons and the interest is always there when it comes back.

Just read an interview with the creators of LOST. Three years/16 episodes was selected (instead of 2 years/24 episodes) so that they would have more time to develop the scripts properly. There is a lot of work behind the scenes in producing each episode and I think that the extra creative time will result in three more amazing seasons. Enjoy!

thats the problem with the internet age people are to impatient and i guess in a way thats why lost works because people wait and wait and then when the epsiode airs they have to watch it.
What a bunch of whiners about ONLY 16 episodes per season. Just in case you didn't realize it there are 52 weeks in a year and even 24 episodes would leave 28 weeks uncovered. That's how it works these days. I appreciate any and all LOST episodes. Relax and enjoy it while it lasts.
why not make it 2 more seasons... and make them each 24 thats crap... although i do like the idea of no breaks, coz lost was notorious for breaks

Personally, I like the fact that 'Lost' will still have 48 episodes. I love the show and unlike many people, not getting answers soon is what attracts me to the show, that's it's power: slowly evolving through the storyline but still delivering great episodes.But spreading it over 3 years with every season only 16 episodes might not be good news. Many people might loose interest, as a lot of them allready have since season 3. I hope they will not cancel it therefor, I hope we will get the proper end.

Here's an idea instead of Starting a season in january with out repeats Start run the whole season in september then you don't have to worry about 24 and American Idol
I love lost ! It's Awesome! Sawyer is soo fit! :) I think Lost ending soon is an okay idea. If they drag it on too long people will lose interest. But i will miss lost a lot! Season 3 has been quite ..well..boring to be honest.. Ooh but the last one i watched "The brig" i think its called was Fantastic!!!! woohoo!
I'm a big fan of the show and will watch no matter what but i think 2 full seasons would make more sense.
This is better. They won't change tings now working around weather they will return or not. Hopefuly these next 3 seasons will improve over season 3.
