This one is for you, Hovabyte (I'll even keep it relatively short). I said I would do it, so I'm going to do it. Lost's mysteries aren't relegated just to what the island is about, who is going to kill who, and how Hurley kept the weight on despite being stranded on an island (I don't buy the reserve stash of Dharma ranch dressing). The way the show is set up is unlike most other shows, in that at times, we're presented with the most basic of mysteries.
For example, how are we supposed to address this new John Locke impostor? Even Sawyer asks the question. And because we received so many creative suggestions for our last "what do we call this?" article, we're opening the floor once again and asking the same question in regards to the new Locke.
Here's what we (think we) know about the man who is walking around in John Locke's body in the island timeline. He's the corporeal version of The Man in Black, Jacob's nemesis from the beach in the Season 5 finale. He can, apparently, transform into the Smoke Monster on a whim. He's angrier than John, more confident than John, and more determined than just about anyone. And he really wants to kill Jacob.
As evidenced by my last Lost article, I'm a fan of calling him (Un)Locke, with the annoying parentheses being optional. (Un)Locke just has a nice ring to it, and if you really stretch it, you can piece together some argument in favor of it because the Man in Black can "unlock" the mysteries of the island or something. Like I said, a stretch.
Other names I've seen him called include: The Locke-ness Monster, Smocke (Smoke + Locke), Fake Locke, and Flocke. All very decent options. As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong), Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have not given their blessing to any one term for the guy.
So crack those coconuts and give us some new names. It's been a blast going back and forth with you guys, and as long as you keep reading, I'll keep writing. Thanks!

The John Lockness Monster...
Esau. Call him Esau
Now that I recall, in the original casting call he was "Samuel" (another biblical name), while for example there's no name in the casting call for the Misterious Boy...
Another terrible article. This site is a joke.
Mocke, Smocke, Flocke... what I'm really wandering by now is what the frak is his "real" name... after this much time the fact that we don't have a clue about it must mean it has some kind of deep significance...
Let it be LOCKE as it is!
For me Locke is the the man most men want to be, to be able to face any problem (Ex. his back problem) and do what it takes to overcome it. My name for him (By the way, ny favorite person on the show) is "When smoke gets in your eyes" There is nothing he can't handle!!!
I absolutely love Smocke!
Flocke works for me.
i still call him locke because the real locke is dead!!
Hmmm... I just call him "other Locke"....
My house has been calling him Non-Locke (as opposed to John Locke). However I doubt that will catch on anywhere else lol.
We still continue to call him the man in black and probably will till we get a name.
Man in Smocke
I've seen some people call him Man In locke, I kind of like that one. But unlocke sounds nice too it's short and simple. But I think if that'll end up being his name it'll probably mess up the word unlock for me forever in that when soemone says "unlock that door" I'll imediately go "Smoke Monster!" Now that I think about it how about just sticking with Smokey though if you think about it The Locke Ness Monster would be the most fitting.
btw, what happened to esau?
Mmmmm, how 'bout Bad Locke (I crack me up!!)
Lockey? .. meh.. I think Flocke is the best one.
Black John?...
Smokey Lockinson.
What to call "Smokey John Locke"?"Trouble."
Ever since we first saw "The Man In Black" in the season 5 finale, my brother and I have been calling him "Jacob's Nemesis" or "Anti-Jacob" in our conversations.
Terry O'Quinn told the Los Angeles Times that he calls him "Smokey".
Mr. Smocke (Star Trek S1E01)
John Locke + Man in Black = John Black
Smoke McLocke
Smocke
Smockly :P The first and only thing I can come up with now
The Locke-Less Monster
MatLocke? MockLocke? McLocke?
I don't think he needs a new nickname but if you insist then .. lets see Smoky + FLocke = FLockey ? lolI still call him/it MIB .
He's basically a Cylon Locke so you might as well just call him Locke, but if you're trying to be clever then smokey, though cheesy, is ok, or what ever the real smoke monster's name was since that is actually who it/he is, just wearing a Locke suit.
I just like Smokey. Or Man in Black. Until he's given a name.
ARCHEVIL NEMESIS
What the Flocke! ANother naming article...see what I did there..
Blocke. A fine mixture of the two words, black and Locke.
I like unlocke or flocke.
Glocke --he could even sign a movie deal after the show ...Up in Smoke 2. And Glocke is pretty gangster badass.
I Just Call him Flock
I like calling him Esau because it is a real name and plus it is easy to remember. But Lockeness Monster really had me laughing!
UnLocke and Locke-A-Like are my favorites! Smockey has a nice ring as well. What about Jeremy? He was, after all, a Fake Locke...
Smocke is epic! I've just stuck to calling him Bizarro Locke.
SmokeLocke
Smocke Monster in Black or Locke-ness Monster in Black
The locke-ness monster i was laughing as hell one that one lol
Locke, Stuck, and Too Smokey parallel. As in the MIB is stuck in locke. I hope you all get the reference.
I call him Evil Locke
Lockelganger
How about Lockretia McEvil? (Remember Blood, Sweat & Tears?). Or Lethal John (The alter ego of Robin Hood's Little John).
Dread Locke
