Lost: What Should We Call Smokey John Locke?

Just call me Sir Smokealot!

This one is for you, Hovabyte (I'll even keep it relatively short). I said I would do it, so I'm going to do it. Lost's mysteries aren't relegated just to what the island is about, who is going to kill who, and how Hurley kept the weight on despite being stranded on an island (I don't buy the reserve stash of Dharma ranch dressing). The way the show is set up is unlike most other shows, in that at times, we're presented with the most basic of mysteries.

For example, how are we supposed to address this new John Locke impostor? Even Sawyer asks the question. And because we received so many creative suggestions for our last "what do we call this?" article, we're opening the floor once again and asking the same question in regards to the new Locke.

Here's what we (think we) know about the man who is walking around in John Locke's body in the island timeline. He's the corporeal version of The Man in Black, Jacob's nemesis from the beach in the Season 5 finale. He can, apparently, transform into the Smoke Monster on a whim. He's angrier than John, more confident than John, and more determined than just about anyone. And he really wants to kill Jacob.

As evidenced by my last Lost article, I'm a fan of calling him (Un)Locke, with the annoying parentheses being optional. (Un)Locke just has a nice ring to it, and if you really stretch it, you can piece together some argument in favor of it because the Man in Black can "unlock" the mysteries of the island or something. Like I said, a stretch.

Other names I've seen him called include: The Locke-ness Monster, Smocke (Smoke + Locke), Fake Locke, and Flocke. All very decent options. As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong), Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have not given their blessing to any one term for the guy.

So crack those coconuts and give us some new names. It's been a blast going back and forth with you guys, and as long as you keep reading, I'll keep writing. Thanks!
