Since 1993, (when he went by the name Asia Born), Lyrics Born has been treating listeners to high-quality records that showcase his lyrical dexterity and one-of-a-kind flow. Co-founder of storied indie label Solesides/Quannum Projects, he has worked extensively with like-minded peers such as Blackalicious, DJ Shadow, and Lateef the Truth Speaker, among many others.
Already an established fan favorite and high octane live performer, he would wait until 2003 to release his first solo LP, Later That Day, which spawned the massive crossover hit “Callin' Out.” Since then he has been working non-stop, dropping two more full-lengths (including a live album) and three editions of his Variety Show mixtapes, in addition to establishing his Mobile Home imprint, and touring the world repeatedly.
With his latest endeavor, Everywhere At Once, Lyrics Born continues to make music on his own terms, proving that the whole “underground vs. mainstream” debate is played out. With 18 tracks that will sound equally at home in velvet-rope nightclubs, commercial radio, or a backpacker’s headphones, his new release will undoubtedly satisfy his legions of fans around the word.
We spoke with him between shows at the infamous SXSW festival. Check it out.
