MADtv ends run, enters final season

Sure, Saturday Night Live may be getting all the attention with its "hilarious" (term used loosely) take on the presidential election, but there's another sketch-comedy show that's been delivering the yuks late at night as well. Fox's MADtv is in its 14th season of lampooning celebs and serving up politically incorrect laughs, but all good things must come to an end.

Fox today announced that MADtv will be ending its lengthy run at the conclusion of this season. MADtv debuted in 1995, making this season its 14th cycle...not too shabby for a late-night show.

MADtv was known for not pulling many punches, making fun of celebrities such as Whitney Houston, Kenny Rogers, Britney Spears, Morgan Freeman, and Ellen DeGeneres, as well as creating original characters such as Stuart, Ms. Swan, and Coach Hines.

The final episode of MADtv will be its 326th and will air in May next year. MADtv airs on Saturday nights at 11 p.m. on Fox.

my kids and I work on different shows and this cast is so super nice, everyone in the offices, cast and crew behind the scenes are awesome, I hope they don't go away. I especially appreciate how the stars are also nice to my little boy. I hope the show continues!

14 years is a good run for a show that was up against a sleeping/dying juggernaut of SNL. Madtv, to its credit, didn't need political election years to be funny, it was always funny to some degree. If the show is ultimately canceled, I hope they come out with some "best of seasons" DVD's. Here's to you Madtv, and yes for 14 years it was funnier than SNL.

That's not what I heard. The show is only being cancelled by FOX, it doeasn't mean it's the end of MADTV. I read the producers would be trying to see if another network would pick up MADTV. Shows have changed networks in the past...so we'll see.

Even if it is cancelled, 14 years of shows is A LOT to watch for any fan.

FOX suck for getting rid of some of their best shows.

This stinks, it Really stinks! :( Despite "MADtv's" attempts to make a revolving door line-up like the inferior "S.N.L." with better actors, the original actors were unfortunately too good. Phil LaMarr, Pat Kilbane, Nicole Sullivan, Alex Borstein, Will Sasso, Debra Wilson, Mo Collins, Ron Pedersen, Aries Spears, Paul Vogt, Stephanie Weir, Frank Caliendo, Danielle Gaither, Ike Barinholtz, and Jordan Peele's departures from the show were all terrible blows which "MADtv" had a terrible time recovering from. But I think the final nail was when Michael McDonald finally left the show, and signified the end of the golden age of this show. Maybe it is better that "MADtv" end after this season, instead of trying to continue and lose even more of its coolness factor like "S.N.L." has. One thing's for sure, "MADtv" will always be known for Always being better then "S.N.L."! Enough said! ;)

i kind of saw this coming. i have been watching the reruns because the current epsidoes are terible. i watched the season premiere and i just wanted to change the channel. i stuck it out. sad but we still will have meories from the good members of the cast. most of the people in this season aren't funny and are in terrible sketches.

While it's been getting very bad the last few years, this is still quite the surprise. Wonder if the ratings are slipping?

All the same, it's never been as good as early when they had real comedic and immitation talent like Phil LaMarr, Pat Kilbane (who unfortunately vanished after the show), and Frank Caliendo.

I am so glad this poor excuse for comedy is getting canceled. The worst thing that ever happened to Comedy Central was when they started airing old MadTV episodes when they lost the rights to SNL. Watching old SNL episodes was great because you could watch the last great era of SNL with Myers, Sandler, Farley, Hartman, etc. Every time I catch an episode of MadTV on Comedy Central it's always the same one, and it has NEVER made me laugh. SNL has been severely lacking in quality in recent years but it has never been as bad as the open sewer that is MadTV. Good riddance to the show, and hopefully FOX will put on something that is actually funny and fresh in its place. FYI - I like stupid humor, but MadTV was 'Alabama-stupid' humor.

I loved MadTV's first couple of seasons. They learned a lesson that SNL had totally forgotten. Write and perform quick, clean under four minutes in total time sketches. It was a breath of fresh air when it debuted in '95 and SNL was in the nadir of its post Myers-Carvey-Sandler-Sweeny-Rock-Miller days, where they would have utterly unfunny, overblown, painfully obvious, standard three joke sketches that stretched on for over ten agonizing minutes at times. MadTV was quick and fast moving. If a sketch sucked, it was over soon and you could look at a new one.

NOOOO! I know the show was losing its quality, but as least its ending before it fades away.

MADTV was pretty funny. I can barely get a laugh from all of those political sketches on SNL and this show provided a good escape from that. Sometimes you do need to watch a dumb parody to even your brain out. I love Bobby Lee and Michael McDonald. They always had the best sketches.

I hope that there's a new sketch comedy show to replace it but it should be more like MadTV or In Living Color. I don't want another SNL copycat.

I think it was the right decision. It was simply time to move on whether that means FOX getting a new sketch comedy show or just getitng rid of that concept.

MADtv is still very funny but the fact that Bobby Lee was the only person they could get to play John McCain spoke volumes about the current cast at the show.

I think my favorite moment has to be all of Ike Barinholtz' Dane Cook segments. Just a perfect and hilarious impression.

I hope Nicole Parker gets a sitcom or starts showing up in some comedy films (not stupid spoof movies like Meet the Spartans). She's funny and a woman, a rarity in 2008.

I agree SNL was overrated. Long live Mad TV, it will be sorely missed!Though I agree during the final seasons they seemed to be losing material so I understand why it is ending.
