Mariska, Meloni Enlist For More SVU

Ice-T probably isn't making 400k. Weak!

Fan favorites Christopher Meloni, one of TV's most intense actors, and Mariska Hargitay, one of its most beautiful, have signed on for at least two more seasons of their gritty NBC series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Variety reports they'll each be paid nearly $400,000 an episode. The mag also notes talks had broken down some time in the spring, but were revived a few weeks ago.

All systems appear to be "go" on the series, which has also signed TV vet Christine Lahti, last seen on Aaron Sorkin's short-lived Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on NBC in 2006, to guest-star on a four-episode arc (storyline unknown). Additionally, former SVU-er Stephanie March will return in Episode Five for at least 10 episodes in her usual role of assistant DA Alex Cabot, Variety says, and former Prison Break star Wentworth Miller is signed on for a guest appearance in the season premiere, according to TV Guide Magazine.

Like the original Law & Order (referred to as "the mother ship" by L&O insiders), L&O: SVU has long been a mainstay on NBC, having been spun off from the mother ship in 1999. Meloni and Hargitay have been there from the beginning.

They ARE the show, and Mariska is not just a beautiful face, she is an increible actor who portrays Benson with sensitivity, intelligence, and a strong devotion to justice. Great female role model.

Thank God!! I'm so glad that it's all been worked out. I'm not sure the show would've been as good w/o them. They're a big part of why I watch!

Yayyy! If they don't do any more after this, I wonder if they'll finally resolve Benson and Stabler's sexual tension in the series finale... it's necessary (hint, hint, writers... lol).

This was explained in Season 10 Episode 15 when Alex returned. Words went something like this, You're back? You've been out of Wintness Protection Program for 2 years and we haven't heard from you. (Should go watch it.)

Okay I like this show as much as anyone but how can they really expect to bring Alex Cabot back without making it look stupid? I mean the woman is in The Feds Witness Protection program I really doubt she'll go back to New York to resume her A.D.A duties like nothing ever happened.

I certainly am glad that these two very talented actors will be returning and that they can expected to be fairly compensated. If sports figures can earn grossly over the top salaries -- then these exceptional actors deserve similar consideration!

As far as the "replacement" of actors --- Law & Order has always had a reputation for doing a "change-up" of their casts. It usually shakes things up and the altered dynamics can be an "improvement"! We have come to expect that the quality of the writing and performances of the "new" actors are up to the task and we, the viewers, are rarely disapointed!

SVU is not like the mother ship Law and Order, it can not really handle too much come and go casting so losing its two big characters would really hurt the show. Sure Munch's partner changed a few times before finding a match with Ice T and if he left or Belzer left, the show would not be the same. The show has not been the same since Stephanie March left to the point where they have had two ADA's since and are now having her coming back for a good portion of episodes.

I think that SVU did the right thing. I don't think the show would ever be the same with out them.
