It's the triumphant return to television for one big-name television star, and just another television series for one of the industry's busiest boys. Former Friends friend Matthew Perry will be hooking up with Showtime, and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has yet another series in the works.
The pilot of Perry's project, The End of Steve, has been officially scooped up by Showtime, according to Variety. Word of the show first broke this past June.
Perry (who will also write) stars in the dark comedy as a talk-show host with a bit of an ego problem. Fast-talking, foul-mouthed, and an overall nutter, Perry's character is stranded in his position as a TV talk-show host in Rochester, New York.
Rob Thomas has been awfully busy this year, working on several new projects. His post-Veronica life started slowly but has caught fire as of late. Thomas was set to run the show at 90210 (he later dropped out), is running the second chance at Cupid on ABC, and the American adaptation of New Zealand's Outrageous Fortune, dubbed domestically as Good Behavior.
Now Thomas will oversee yet another show, this one headed to Starz. The one-time movie network is expanding its original programming with a 10-episode order of Party Down. The comedy revolves around half a dozen aspiring Hollywood types who work together at a catering company that works at various events (adult-video awards, corporate events, and so on).
Party Down is scheduled to debut early next year.

I've really missed Matthew Perry...Studio 60 was such a good show and he was amazing in it. Such a pity it didn't get the run it desreved. Can't wait for his return!
I can't wait for Perry's return. :D.
Good for MP
Sounds like Studio 60, which was great.
Though they never should've cancelled Studio 60, this new Perry show sounds good.
Rob Thomas' new show sounds a bit like mix between Entourage and Ricky Gervais' Extras. Seen the promos to Cupid...really no interest in it.
Perry's show might be good. I actually gained a lot more respect for him as an actor in Studio 60.
Agh, Why all these new shows?!Why can't Rob just focus on a Veronica Mars movie? That would seriously complete my life
The new Rob Thomas show doesn't sound appealing. I'm looking out for Cupid and Outrageous Fortune(don't remember if that actually got picked up for mid-season) but I hope it did.
