Melrose Place getting the reboot?

Are we living the 1980s and 1990s over again? Indiana Jones is back, the Transformers are still transformin', Knight Rider is burning rubber again, and everyone still knows Beverly Hills' zip code--and that's just naming a few of the reminders.

The only thing that needs updating
is that horrendous outfit!

Hollywood is obsessed with turning the old into "new," and there are no signs that it's stopping. The latest television show to follow that trend could be a modern-day remake of an old show that was a spin-off of a show that has already been given a modern-day makeover.

According to E! Online, Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off Melrose Place (which ran from 1992-1999 on Fox) may be getting the same treatment its forebear did. Actress Lisa Rinna, who played Taylor McBride in the amorous apartment complex, spoke with E! at the Emmys and said she has heard rumblings that The CW is thinking of updating Melrose Place like it updated Beverly Hills, 90210.

While she admits to the news only being rumorlicious for now, she does say she would "do it in a heartbeat."

For those who don't remember, Melrose Place spawned off a storyline that saw Jennie Garth's character from Beverly Hills, 90210 pursue bad-boy Jake, who lived in an apartment complex in Los Angeles. Melrose Place followed the bed-hopping antics of the "I'm going to make it in Hollywood!" residents of said apartment complex.

A Melrose Place update would fit into The CW's master plan of wooing young women, but seriously, what are they going to call it? Just Melrose? Would Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Marcia Cross, Daphne Zuniga, Heather Locklear, Jack Wagner, or Kristin Davis be ready to come back? Probably not. Well maybe Heather Locklear. She'll do anything nowadays.

Let's not get excited about this just yet...or ever.

I would watch that in a heartbeat. Actually I was wondering if they would bring Melrose Place on CW...it would be very easy to do. Nobody from the original has to be on the show, it's an apartment complex. Maybe we can get Models Inc 2.0---:-)

    Good grief. No!

The CW needs to stop spawning shows like this. Doing 90210 was bad enough. They need to sit down and seriously think about making more shows like Smallville and Supernatural... that's where the ratings lie.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! movies do remakes. not tv too! i hate this crap. everyone wants to be the next gossip girl or the hills. but those shows suck. ughh

Oh yeah, the other anomaly is that Rob Estes, currently the principal of WBH, played a character on Melrose Place. If they re-link the new 90210 and the (supposed) new Melrose, they're going to cause a blackhole in the time-space continuum.

Kristin Davis better bloody-well not come back. Her character, Brooke, is fully dead. Yes, I know that didn't completely stop them before, but, really, your resurrection timer runs out when the credits to the final episode roll.

what the heck. go for it CW!!

This show was good for something like the first 4 years and then it steadily went down hill with bad writing and too many cast changes. By the end it wasn't even watchable anymore.
I say do a TV movie don't do a new series. It may turn out like the new 90210.

Thanks for watching kids... today's TV shows are brought to you by the word 'desperation' and the number zero. As in we're so desperate because we have zero original ideas.

I'm all for it, I just wish it wouldn't be on The CW. If it went to FOX or NBC, Laura Leighton would return. Even though she died, but it could be done if you've ever seen Melrose Place, you would know. Heather Locklear probably would and so would Michael Mancini.

Lets narrow down our target audience even further, that's just what our dropping ratings need. Geez, is George Bush in charge of the CW or something?

I SO want Melrose back :D I'm crossing my fingers it will happen

Terrible news. I watched the original for a little while, then quit because it got so painfully boring. I wouldn't want to see this remade. The original actors are too old and today's generation of young actors are terrible. I do have to say I like the remade "Knight Rider" even though I didn't like/watch the original so you never know.

WOW terrible! Leave it alone they brought 90210 back and its not even as great as the original

Why do they need to keep bring back old shows when they could be investing the money into the shows they already have? Every year it seems our favourite CW shows (I'm thinking OTH, Supernatural) seem to always be just on the edge of goodbye. Invest in these shows, don't make more competition for them. Or here's a great idea, buy the rights to run these original gems in syndication!

Never watched the original, same thing for 90210. But I love the new 90210, so maybe? Just as long as this doesn't go in Smallville's timeslot, I'd be very angry. Thursday night should always be a super-hero show and a supernatural show.

  • sbhinyo

Truthfully, I don't think this will happen but if it does it has to be as good as the orginal and I don't think that any new remake of this show will do good. I love watching The New 90210 and it's one of my new favorite shows. But honestly I would love to see it return but without any of the old characters I don't think it will last.

But by all means please bring it back it is my all time favorite show.

There is absolutely no need. I guess there is a wholenenw generation of teens to watch these revived shows but still....

  • kncarman

I guess I don't understand the need to make the old new again. Can they not come up with anything original?

Oh please give us some original programming instead!

If it comes back it needs new actors...I mean I love the show but are they for real!

stupidest news ever. this is the most retarted thing ive ever heard, almost as retarted as the cw making a remake of beverly hills. rob estes is already on 90210, he was on melrose back in his day, and daphne zuniga is already on the cws payrole, wouldnt put it past the cw to make the remake!!! i for one will NOT be tuning in!

    I agree with Ashs911.

  • GODHOOD

Isn't the new 90210 ratings droping? You would think they would wait to consider rebooting another show to see if it's working to attract those young women. Here's some advice for the CW, concentrate on your older viewers, give them original programs and I guarantee your ratings will go up.

Leave the 80s/90s to rest in peace Hollywood! Yeesh. I mean they were great nostalgic times but you destroy too much of its value when you keep bringing back the dead.

  • babyitsfact

Marcia Cross already said on the Emmy's Red Carpet that she would not do it.

    Sep 24, 2008
  • tvismyescape22

I don't think this show would survive if it got rebooted with completely new characters, they would need at least 1 or 2 of the old cast members. That being said, it would be exciting if they brought back Melrose! lol, it's the 90's all over again.

I'd watch it and be very happy. Melrose Place was and still is my ultimate guilty pleasure. Love it.And dude, whoever wrote that news article clearly never watched the show, Kimberly and Brooke (Marcia Cross and Kristen Davis' characters) died.I'd LOVE for Daphne Zuniga to come back. Jo was the best character. And Grant Show has to come back as Jake too. And of course Amanda, it wouldn't really be Melrose without her.But I bet none of them would come back, it would just be a bunch of new young adults.

  • bruins1968

Heather is one of the actors to have gone on to do some good work, I mean look at lisa rhina, TV Guide anybody, But they would all have to be like jennie and shannen, play minor roles as mothers or in lisa's case grandmother.

I'm am almost in heaven! I would love to see Melrose return! Of course it wouldn't be the same, so only a few originals should be on it with guest appearances of the others. It would be great .... womens drama television is hitting rock bottom...the only good thing on is desperate housewives, and although I wouldn't miss an episode, it has its dull moments.

    GO MELROSE!

I am so open to a Melrose Place spinoff. The series in general is amazing, so I would be more than happy if Melrose got a reboot.

But I'm not too sure about Daphne Zuniga, Marcia Cross or hell Kelly Rutherland since they've all received other roles.
