Memo to Kanye West: Stop Acting Like a Moron

At last night's MTV Video Music Awards, pretty much everything else that happened was made irrelevant by Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. If you have not yet seen what happened, congratulations on living a busy and fulfilling life. Here it is:

Kanye's defenders argue that this was the most (and probably only) truly entertaining moment of the night. But what they forget is that this kind of behavior from West is not an anomaly. Never really appreciated by anyone with any sense of tact, Kanye's behavior is getting downright insufferable.

There was the first time he interrupted someone's acceptance speech, at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards. When Justice and Simian won for best video, Kanye took to the stage during their speech to announce that his own "Touch the Sky" was a better video, because "it cost a million dollars, [and] Pamela Anderson was in it." Granted, we don't really know anything about Justice and Simian, but we also don't see how Pamela Anderson makes a video the best. At least last night, his argument was vaild. ("All The Single Ladies" probably is the greatest video of all time. And it won Video of the Year, long after Kanye had left Radio City Music Hall, probably in search of a third-grade recital he could interrupt and criticize.)

And then there was the time where he went off-script during A Concert For Hurricane Relief. Everyone remembers the controversy incited by the line "George Bush doesn't care about black people," but it's not surprising that Kanye, once again, that the ensuing controversy was more about Kanye than it was about whether or not George Bush did or did not in fact care about black people. It probably had something to do with the sort-of-coherent, mostly inarticulate rant he went on before uttering his famous line and making everyone uncomfortable.

This is where Kanye always runs into trouble: the medium, not the message. It's rude to interrupt someone's acceptance speech and tell them they didn't deserve to win.

So what was Yeezy, as the kids call him, trying to accomplish? Did he expect the audience to rally around him and boo Taylor Swift into relinquishing her reward? The opposite happened. In fact, Taylor got the biggest cheer of the night when Beyonce invited Taylor back onstage to finish her speech. If Kanye's goal was to make Beyonce look like a thoughtful and generous paragon of class, he succeeded. But it wasn't. The real takeaway is that Kanye, who can't seem to resist tuba-ing (like trumpeting, but more annoying) his thoughts, isn't very bright. Someone from his camp needs to take him aside and quietly, tactfully, and politely tell him to stop acting like such a moron.

I never liked him nor his music , he is not worth of being celeb . I do agree that Beyonce's song is way much better then Taylor's . But the way Kayne spoke was rude and stupid he made a fool of himself .

What Kanye did to Taylor was just straight up disrespectful and rude. He may not agree with the fact that she won the award, but he could at least have had the decency to stay in his seat and keep that opinion to himself, or at least have waited until after the ceremony!

There was nothing "entertaining" about his crass display of poor judgment and douche bag personality. He is a skidmark stain on the underwear of music.

I'm very disappointed and upset with what Kanye did, but I'm more saddened for the disappointment that it created for Taylor Swift, and in part Beyonce. Kanye took away from both of their nights and that's where I'll focus my thoughts and hopefully Kanye will also. That focus may be the only thing to get through to him as people harden themselves against personal attacks, especially some of the things posted at other sites where people become more violent in their words.

Wait, hold up Mr. Griff: ""All The Single Ladies" probably is the greatest video of all time" ??? How is THAT valid? I hate that music video. I suppose it was well produced but HOW is it the "best" music video of all times hands down? That's a very strange comment.P.S. The song itself is wearing VERY thin on me, they play it WAYYYY too much in night clubs, and people (well, ladies) get far too excited at this point even though they've probably heard it get played for about the 100th time if not more already.

Next time Kanye gets an award, someone should interrupt his speech to criticize the judges' decision, and we'll see how he likes it. And the dumbest thing about the 2006 incident referenced in this article was that during his interruption, he admitted that he hadn't even SEEN Justice and Simian's video. He just KNEW his was better. Pathetic!

I can't use the language I want to on this site! He is worse than a douche! He is a typical drunken idiot assh@@le with more money than sense. The people working behind the scenes at the award show should have smacked him down like the tiny bit@h he is. He should never be nominated for anything or even be heard from again! Kudos to the great Beyonce for being the ever gracious person she is!

I can't, well actually I'm sure I can, believe that Kayne would be so rude as to stop Taylor Swift's acceptance speech just to rant about how he thinks she truely shouldn't have won the award, and I have heard other's opinions about it, saying "this is america, and he has the freedom of speech" but the thing is sure he has the right to say what is on his mind, and if he thinks Beyonce should have won, he could have gotten his opinion out in some other way instead of being disrespectful by stopping Taylor's speech.

He is just stupid. And I've never even heard him ... hmmm... singing? Whatever.

I used to hope for Kanye that he might straighten up. Shame on me for thinking that. That jerk pretty much ruined the current "kid sister" of the music world night of her life. And I really don't like Beyonce's music and think she is over rated, but she did a really classy thing by getting Taylor up there.

I think the guys a dick but the amazing thing is there will be people out there defending his actions.

    Sep 14, 2009
  • staind47

Can't stand him. He's an idiot. I think he issued an apology because he realized that the entire room full of stars turned on him in seconds. Maybe he and Serena Williams should hook up. They dont seem to think there is anything wrong with their actions. It was a bad moment for both Beyonce and Swift. He robbed her of her first VMA award moment which is kinda a big thing. That said she handled it brilliantly though.

Actually she's a few months away from 20, and he did issue some kind of apology.I don't think he's sorry, only regrets people seeing what a douche he is on a wide scale.

    Sep 14, 2009
  • KIngsfan95821

Kanye West behavior was disgraceful as a artist in my book and should apologize. Kanye can never take back the moment from her again as a music artist. I going to boycot his music for a long while. Considering this was her first award at 17. I give my most respect to Beyonce, she showed class and repect to a new artist and gave up her time on the show to thank people. I feel thats way the world should work, but unfortuntely it dosen't.

    Sep 14, 2009
  • MemnochZERO

He's far more childish than a man age should be. You know he wouldn't stand for this BS if the situation was reversed, too. And yes, I'm glad Beyonce invited Taylor back up.

Although i did feel bad for Taylor watching the video, Kanye did say i'll let you finish! I think he likes his freedom of speach a little too much.
