The "Seinfeld" Story

While doing his stand up act, Jerry takes questions from the crowd. One of the questions is "where did the series come from?" An often asked question, Jerry responds by showing a videotape he's prepared. The video includes his first appearance on "The Tonight Show" (6 May 1981), interviews with his managers, his co-creator Larry David, executives from NBC and Castle Rock, his fellow cast mates, and other people involved with the… read more »

Show Summary

This is a show about nothing; however, for a show about nothing, this show has many complex plots, sub-plots, is very well written and put together. So much so that until the public caught onto the series, the television critics were responsible for helping to keep it alive. The critics furtherMore went on and made the series victorious in every category it was eligible for in the 1st Annual American Television Awards. Seinfeld has also won a few Emmy Awards, the George Foster Peabody Award for 1992 and many more. Many of the early episodes were based on the life experiences of series co-creator, Larry David. Stories such as The Stock Tip and The Jacket really happened, as did many others. Across the hall from Larry lived a man named Kenny Kramer, who aside from the physical comedy aspects, lives the life of TV Kramer. Find out all about him at the real Kramer's web site. Some aspects were based on Jerry's life. Jerry's real address in NYC when he was struggling comic was 129 W. 81 St., this is the address used for his building in the series. In the series, Jerry lives in apartment 5A, Kramer in 5B. Viewer Jason Dean Vaupel notes that in a couple of episodes of the second season, Jerry lives in apartment 3A. And Newman's apartment has usually been 5E, but viewer Jeff Holland notes that it sometimes is 5F and that 5E was rented out to someone else as already noted in the episode, The Conversion. Their building is called The Shelley according to viewer Kipp Teague whose discerned that from the awning on the building. However, that building is actually located in Los Angeles, the building at the real address in NYC is much different. Jeff Holland also notes that The Shelley has no visible fire escapes, but there is one outside of Jerry's window. Other aspects are composite of both lives. For example, Elaine's character is half based on Jerry's ex-girlfriend Carol Leifer. Carol joined the production staff in the 5th season. An ex-girlfriend of Larry David's, named Monica Yates, whose father was a noted writer in the other half of the Elaine equation. Larry David once wore a suede jacket that got wet while meeting her father. Another viewer, Bobby Bank, notes that a tribute to Jerry's father is seen in occasional episodes. Jerry's father, named Kal, worked in the sign business, so occasionally in the background you may see a sign that says Kal's Signs. Bobby stated in a trade magazine for the sign industry called Signs of the Times that he... Quote:
had the pleasure of meeting and working with Kal in the early 70s when we were producing Jewelite (Bobby's company) letters for him. I remember Kal saying, 'Bobby, you should meet my son Jerry. He's a real funny guy.'

Viewer Robert Buchanan also reminds me that it is ironic that Jerry's father's name is Kal, and Superman's real Kryptonian name is Kal-El.

Most every episode takes place in Jerry's apartment; however, there are (of course) a few exceptions: The Chinese Restaurant, The Pen, The Parking Garage, The Subway, The Limo, The Airport, The Movie, The Hamptons, The Merv Griffin Show & The Dealership. While no activity occurs there, an empty apartment is shown in The Puerto Rican Day.

Seinfeld is what it is, and those who find it boring must find their own lives incredibly so. This show isn't reality for sure, it's almost a parody of reality that really makes you think about the little things like the odd quirks people have, relationship dynamics, and habits that never really die. Seinfeld is a show where four not-very-likable characters get themselves into difficult situations, usually dragging along a cohort or two. There is very little action, and nearly all the comedy is either subtle or slapstick. None of the cheap shots or frat boy humor you see in the lazy comedies and sitcoms of today. To be clear - Seinfeld was only around when I was a child, it really isn't a contemporary show for me. I didn't start watching it until I was old enough to appreciated the layers of comedy that Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry David built for each character. Now I look back on it fondly as I avoid already dried up newcomers like 2 Broke Girls and Whitney. So, if you enjoy everyday hilarity, memorable lines and well-developed characters with real flaws and nearly real lives, Seinfeld is probably for you.

    The Perfect Episode

"The Fix-Up" had me laughing non-stop from beginning to end.

Put simply, this episode is perfect as one scene builds upon the other.
The best episodes of "Seinfeld", in my opinion, are those in which the connection between the Jerry-George-Elaine-Kramer storylines are inextricably linked. In that respect, none is better than this episode... andthe Kramer storyline delivers the coup de grace.

"The Fix-Up" is definitely my favorite episode.

It never ceases to amaze me that out of nowhere a show [Seinfeld] comes along and a love affair is started. 20 years on and the love is still alive.

Was it the characters? Yes, of course as well as the hilarious day to day lives that they lived. Loving it!

They were strangers to us. Just another multi-cast TV crew that seemed promising as entertainment goes but who could have possibly known what these 4 people had in store four us.

While its true, they didn't pull this all off on their own. The multitude of talents behind the talents was amazing and turned out to be work to be proud of for all time. Without a doubt this was a "Beatles" happening. Unknowns becoming superstars and more as times moves on.

Not in my "Top 10 list of most hilarious sitcoms" and I only watch this show sometimes when there is nothing better to watch on television but "Seinfeld" delivers plenty of laughs from me hide show

"Seinfeld" isn't my favorite sitcom and it's not the most hilarious sitcom I've ever seen but it is pretty hilarious and delivers plenty of laughs. Some of the humor are kinda laughing and overrated in this show. They're pretty funny and I do like this show. Jerry Seinfeld is an awesome actor and he does a great job with this show starring as himself. That is how the show got the title "Seinfeld". I guess I can say that everyone in this show is likable and pretty funny. Although, the only time I really do watch "Seinfeld" is when I have nothing better to watch on television. The episodes I have seen so far have been good and I don't think I've seen any bad episodes so far. Who can also forget eh amazing Jason Alexander who also stars in this show as Jerry Seinfeld's best friend George Costanza. The other main characters in this show are Elaine Benes who happens to be Jerry's ex-girlfriend and Cosmo Kramer who is Jerry's wacky neighbors. Everything in this show is pretty much hilarious even though some of the humor is overrated. TV Guide naming "Seinfeld" to be the greatest television program of all time was awesome to know and even though this isn't my favorite sitcom, I so agree most definitely agree with TV Guide. Overall, "Seinfeld" is the funniest sitcom I've ever seen but it is pretty hilarious and delivers plenty of laughs for me to enjoy it. 9/10

A show about nothing. hide show

Seinfeld is one of the funniest shows ever. Larry David is a genius. If you like Seinfeld watch Curb your Enthusiasm. =))

This show deserves as many emmys as possible.

    It is a masterpiece.

The best show if the 90's.

    Really funny.

Every episode is written carefully and exceeds the laughs.

A lot of the episodes are based on Larry David's life.

It is funny because the things that happen could happen to you.

Overall, it is a great show and a must-see for any tv lover.

I recommend it and cherish it.

    I watch it everyday.

So go watch it, it's on tv all the time. =)) =)) =)
