Michael Weatherly Will Play Dr. Phil in a CBS Pilot

Michael Weatherly has already lined up his first post-NCIS job, and he won't even be leaving CBS.

Weatherly, who will be leaving NCIS at the end of the season, has joined the CBS pilot Bull, a drama based on the early career of self-help guru Dr. Phil McGraw (yes, Dr. Phil), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bull, which will be written by Dr. Phil himself along with House's Paul Attanasio, is inspired by McGraw's pre-fame career as a legal defense consultant. According to THR, Weatherly will play Dr. Bull, the head of a company that analyzes juries. Dr. Bull "has a physicality and feral intelligence that makes him magnetic to women, and a bruising candor." These are not words that anyone other than Dr. Phil would use to describe Dr. Phil, but that's what happens when Dr. Phil gets to write this himself.

And here's me thinking it was due to the D.U.I or he was going the way of "Sweets" from Bones.
But to leave a show that made him for (no point in sugar-coating this part) a show about a quack nope lost all respect for him now.

Gibbs needs to smack him on the back of the head, with a brick. This sounds so bad, are you sure this is not a prank?

Another story of actors thinking they can do better than the show that made them a 'household' name - ugh

I don't watch NCIS but this must piss off their fans - why quit a stable acting gig that has a MASSIVE fanbase to star in your own show that sounds dreadful and most likely will be cancelled????

I completely forgot about him leaving... And for what??? What could possibly be the worst show ever?!
It's too sad we'll have I think only 4 episodes left and it would be great if he could be a little more important in those last episodes... I hope they (cbs) new about him leaving soon enough for that.
And it could also be my last 4 because I'm not sure I'll stick long after he is gone.

No, I don't like this because I was one step closer to my dark angel come back fantasy. Why did he sign on to another show already. I just need Jenson now, but if Jared can do a Gilmore girls then I don't see why he can't go off an do a dark angel thing. My dreams would come true.

Oh god. I hope Weatherly doesn't have to grow out a Ned Flanders...

I'm still trying to figure out if Weatherly will be portraying Dr. Phil because he's got the range necessary to play the part, or if Dr. Phil somehow believes that he somehow looks like an older Michael Weatherly?

I'm totally NOT a Dr Phil fan. I generally change the channel when he's on a news show. Objectively though the plot of this show about his earlier career in jury selection combined with the casting sounds quite interesting. If the pilot gets ordered to series, I'd give it a try even though Phil will be writing (hopefully he'll have good help & there will be good network oversight over a man who's currently a clown).

NCIS has been renewed through season 15. By then, Mr Weatherly will be into his what, third attempt at anything that can make it to episode ten? I'm with BadCode on this one. It has to be April 1st.

As I'm sure everyone else did, I thought "but he looks nothing like Dr. Phil!", but then I read "written by Dr. Phil himself" and it all made sense. In other news, the guy who plays Major in iZombie will be playing me in a biopic of me, written by me. The character is described by me as "an urbane ladies man, improbably handsome yet approachable, sophisticated yet relatable."

So this is just "Dr." Phil stroking his own ego. It's plenty weird that he went from being a legal defense consultant to some sort of life coach, marriage counselor, and giver of unqualified advice.

I just threw up in my mouth at hearing this. I like Weatherly and I would have wished any other kind of show besides this one. The show sounds horrible and is made even worse knowing that Dr. Phil wrote his own life story as a show. Ugh

LOL @ Dr. Bull. What a name.

And a bigger LOL @ the show being called Bull. That HAS to be tongue-in-cheek, poking fun at how many people consider Dr. Phil.

I was sad to hear that Weatherly was leaving NCIS and will probably stop watching when he is gone. It is hard when they replace original characters especially ones as fun as Tony. The new vehicle for him sounds iffy, probably because I came to really dislike Dr. Phil..... I might try it, but it isn't on my must see list.

I understand Michael wanting his own show. 12 years as a supporting character can be rough. But if he HAS to go with the concept, do it better. Re-make 'Buffalo Bill'.

Dr. Phil isn't just offensive, he's downright revolting.

Hi lynna12000. I agree that the Phil we know now is "revolting", however this show is a Hollywood/fictionalized/scripted account of a prior/earlier Phil, & the plot re jury selection sounds interesting. Plus Weatherly is a very good actor. Don't know if I'd like it, but I would give it a try.

Given that it's the CURRENT Dr. Phil who is driving this fictionalized/scripted version of the 'earlier' Phil, I WON'T be holding my breath. I like Weatherly. Just don't know if I like him enough to tolerate Phil.

I don't know either lynna12000. I'd give the 1st episode (if picked up) a question mark shot & then decide during/after watching. All the best to you.

Weatherly shouldn't need to work for a paycheck with the number of years NCIS has been on the air. The residuals alone should be enough to support most families. The only thing I can figure is the script for the pilot is really good as the concept sounds horrible.

I've always like Weatherly and thought he has the charisma to carry a show. This might be more than he can handle.

I have thought for a while that if CBS is going to get into the DC business as they seem to be with Supergirl, that Weatherly would be good in that universe somewhere.

Also this is a terrible premise for viewers to suffer through.
