Michelle Rodriguez, who played the monotone rageaholic ex-cop Ana Lucia on the ABC hit Lost, was sentenced to 60 days in Los Angeles jail for violating terms of her probation.
Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney, said that Rodriguez was sentenced to 60 days in county jail and given 30 days of community service, a tour of duty with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, assignments with the city morgue and hospital, and told to enter into an alcohol rehabilitation program. Her probation was also extended from 2007 to 2009.
Rodriuguez was put on three years probation in 2004 after she pled no contest to charges of hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license, and driving under the influence of alcohol. In December of 2005, the actress was pulled over and cited for driving while intoxicated.
In April, she pled guilty in Hawaiian court to one count of drunk driving, paid a $500 fine, and spent five days in jail. Rodriguez's LA jail term is scheduled to begin on May 31.
Both Rodriguez and Lost costar Cynthia Watross, who was also pulled over for drunk driving the same night, recently met untimely demises on the hit series.

Where I live "driving while intoxicated" is a serious crime. Drunk drivers can get sentences upto 2 years in jail (just for DWI) - although they usually (if there was no accident) are just placed on probation for 2 years (I don't know about the USA, but here if one is sentenced for the same or similar crime one gets to serve the new sentence plus the old 'suspended' one). <br />

Also even the first offence means almost certain ban on driving vehicles (usually longer than a year, which automatically revokes drivers livense) including - if the judge is very strict - every possible road vehicle (i.e. bicycles).<br />

Sadly - it doesn't seem to work and we still have many drunk drivers here, especially in rural areas.<br />

PS: this might seem strange for some, but the laws against drunk drivers do not distinguish the driven vehicle type. One could (in theory) get the driving ban, lose the driver's license and get 2 years in prison for 'driving' a bicycle on a sidewalk :)<br />

ironic she didnt want to do community service the first time now she has to with a little of it being for MADD when drinking and driving is what got her in trouble they might have a field day with that.I think its called poetic justice?

I have no sympathy for drunk drivers. I have know several people how died by being hit by a drunk driver. You would figure that going to jail would make her want to clean up. Guess not. All I have to say is drinking and driving kills, she may be lucky one or two times, but not everytime.

I think she has to stay more than 60 days. It's really dangerous to drive intoxicated. Some people thing that you can do wherever you want if you're famous.

Yeah she's getting very easy, but hopefully she'll learn. She'll have fun working in the hospital and morgue. Too bad sus she is really a cutie.

I don’t know if its saying something about a person who would opt for Jail over community service. Being in jail would I think go on your record at least community service will look good. <br />
