Miley: I want more serious roles

The Hannah Montana star hit the red carpet in Los Angeles for the premiere of her new movie The Last Song, alongside her boyfriend and co-star Liam Hemsworth.

All eyes were on the new couple but Miley said she hoped people would sit up and notice her for her acting.

"Hopefully people will take me more seriously as an actress," she explained.

"That's what I really want to do, it's my passion and it's what I want to be considered to do."

The singing sensation added: "I just want to continue to do film, it's what I love."

The film promises a look at family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with dealing with first loves and second chances.

"It was great to play somebody that was so real, coming from Hannah Montana which is such a character, I really think it is a transitioning role," Miley said on the red carpet.

As for future roles, Miley says she's keen to play "people with depth and that are genuine."

I take the acting skills very seriously. Acting is how we learn to talk and behave in our everyday lives (by copying what other people do and say).

Wow. In the long-term Hannah Montana has been going on, I've become more and more annoyed by the character of Miley Stewart: she's bratty, selfish, and comically unrealistic. I've been coming to the thought that it may have been the cause of Miley Cyrus's poor performance. But hearing this statement makes me see her in a different light. If Miley is determaned to being more respected as an actress, than I guess it's apparent that it's not the actress, it's the character.
