If June was a month of celebrity deaths, July is shaping up to be a month of celebrity illnesses. Earlier this week, actress Maura Tierney discovered a lump in her breast, which has postponed the production of her upcoming NBC show Parenthood. Now, there's word that Mischa Barton has been hospitalized, threatening her participation in another new program.
Barton, who rose to fame as Marissa Cooper in the teen soap The O.C., was allegedly put in an involuntary psychiatric hold -- confinement for anything from inebriation to a mental disorder in which police think the subject is a danger to themselves or others -- on Wednesday, after police were called to her house. Barton's rep has confirmed that she has been hospitalized for a "medical issue."
The former model-turned-actress is set to star as an aging (23-year-ancient) model whose career is on the decline in the CW's upcoming The Beautiful Life (clip below). Filming is set to begin next week in New York City, and it's unclear whether Barton will be a part of it.
Her rep has stated her participation in the show "will ultimately be contingent upon her progress and doctor's orders," according to The Los Angeles Times.
We know Mischa is a love-her-or-hate-her type of celebrity, but let's all hope she gets better.
