Actor Peter Graves has passed away at the age of 83 after suffering a heart attack in Los Angeles.
Graves was best known for his role as Jim Phelps, ringleader of the superspies in the TV series Mission: Impossible. His supercool persona was a model for many smooth-yet-tough-as-nails television characters that followed, and he hysterically lampooned it as Captain Oveur in the classic comedy Airplane! ("We have clearance, Clarence."). In his later years, Graves became the host and narrator for A&E;'s popular Biography series.
Graves appeared in several films, including classics from Billy Wilder and John Ford and more modern fare such as Addams Family Values and Men in Black II. He also was the centerpiece of a popular Geico commercial.

I think his last TV appearance was on House
RIP
Wonderful, wonderful actor, thanks for your tremendous work. RIP
:(
"Good Luck, Jim" and Rest In Peace, Peter.
Have you ever seen a grown man naked? RIP Mr Graves, you brought us all a lot of joy!
As per orders, the Secretary has disavowed any knowledge of his existence.
This piece lacks a lot of the basic information one would expect from the obituary of a television icon. Who's Graves survived by? Is his brother James Arness still alive? Was his appearance on House his last role? I would say his roles in Night of the Hunter and Stalag 17 are more noteworthy than a Geico commercial.
Stand out performance aside william holden in stalag 17 as the german spy in the barracks. a solid actor.
So sad.
I loved this guy! Airplane was fun, but another of my personal favourites was a little movie with Doris Day, George Kennedy and just about every Western actor of the day, and it was called "The Battle of Josie". Peter Graves was so funny and worked well opposite Day. RIP Mr. Graves...
I loved Airplane. RIP Peter Graves.
Incredible actor.
