One of the reasons Moonlight had such a rabid fan base was because of its dreamy lead, Australian actor Alex O'Loughlin. Once the vampire drama was finally staked through the heart, all eyes were on O'Loughlin's next move, and CBS made the wise decision to keep the actor in their crib by signing him to a talent deal with the promise of a future lead role coming his way.
Finally, we have that role.
O'Loughlin has been tapped for the starring role in the upcoming CBS drama pilot Three Rivers, says The Hollywood Reporter, which is eerie because I suggested this over a month ago--maybe I do know what I'm talking about. Nah, probably not.
Three Rivers is a medical drama about the business of organ transplants told from all three perspectives of the tissue swap: donor, recipient, and doctor. The match seems like a good fit for O'Loughlin, whose experience around fake blood will come in handy in his new role as Dr. Andy Yablonski (note to producers--work on that name), the hard-working team leader of doctors reassembling patients with new parts.
O'Loughlin fans should also take note that this series has a strong case for early pickup, and its prognosis for a long life is good. Not only is CBS mad for its own successful medical drama, but its emphasis on all sides of the story--the donor perspective being the wild card--adds extra oomph to an otherwise worn-down genre.
Former Jericho showrunner Carol Barbee is writing and producing the drama, making Three Rivers a melding of talents from two CBS shows with passionate fans.
CBS, you have my attention. Now don't mess this up!

My comment is . . . everything everyone else has already said. Bad move on CBS for cancelling Moonlight. You guys better make this new show good, Alex deserves it.
I have always enjoyed vampire thrillers. I like the suspense and the romance. I only started watching Moonlight a few months ago when they aired the re runs on sci fi. I have really gotten into them and think the actors are great! Mick and Beth have great chemistry on screen and it makes me look forward to the next episode. I love the story lines! I think also that they didn't give the show enough time on screen. And everybody is right, with the Vampire craze now in the movies, I thought it would have stood the test of time and hung in there for another season! I hope that maybe the producers change their minds and bring O'Loughlin and the other's back to the screen!
I need closure! So hoping CBS would give in and continue Moonlight. All hope is gone now that Alex will be tied up in the operating room. I will love to see him return, but can't imagine this new show will have the same impact and intensity as Moonlight.
I wish Alex well but I doubt very seriously that another "medical drama" is going to succeed on a major network. I know it's suppose to be "different" in that it's not ER, etc... but it's still a medical drama. I'm happy for Alex but I think CBS really has missed the mark on their assessment that Moonlight fans only watched the show because of him. No doubt, he was one of the major reasons but he wasn't the only reason. Hell, if they picked up Moonlight for a 2nd season and only Alex retured(with new co-stars) I wouldn't be that interested. It was mainly the big three(Alex, Sophia, and Daniel) that made that show. Their chemistry was outstanding and the storylines were getting better with each passing episode. So much untapped potential in Moonlight. I just came on board the moonlight train this past week after watching the reruns on Sci-fi. There's no way that show should've been canceled.moreless
I don't usually do medical shows...ever...but I will watch this one, just to see if CBS did right by Alex after screwing him over with Moonlight.
Okay, first of all I love Alex O'loughlin and will probably watch Three Rivers, just to see what it is about. However, I'm still trying to figure out why CBS cancelled this series, especially now since the "Twilight" craze. Acting and Actors were great! And worse yet the ones that loved this show were left hanging. I would preferr to have "Moonlight" back.
I preferred more Moonlight, I loved it!
To FeelTheNight, I made a similar pact years ago. Most shows have to have make it to season 2 before I invest my time and emotions into them, just to believe the networks have more than just a thin investment.
Sounds Interesting
I love Alex, but will the show be as good as....?
very interesting
Excited Alex is in another show.
I loved Moonlight, and I think Alex is awesome. However, after the disappointment of the Moonlight cancellation (another in a string of hurried cancellations without even satisfactory wrap ups) I made a pact. I will no longer watch new shows until I hear that they're hits, because it's a waste of my time to invest in a show that will most likely be unceremoniously killed leaving unfinished story lines and untapped potential. So far, I've kept that promise, and plan to continue. So with all due respect to the talented Mr. O'loughlin, I'll see you when an enthusiastic second season pick up is announced!
Good Alex is a great actor too bad Moonlight was cancelled to bad
XO XO
:):)
Nice can't wait!
Sounds interesting. Some people deserve successful leading roles and Alex is one of them.
Yay for Alex!I hope this show lasts longer then Moonlight did.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah...of course Moonlight had hot actors...but that's not the 'only' reason I loved it. It was really going somewhere with the story line and everything. A lot of shows try to survive on 'eye candy' alone but Moonlight had both and they took it away from us! Well thankfully us true fans of the 'dark and erotic fantasy world' have something to look forward to with the next season of "True Blood" coming out in May! mmmm...I can taste it already...yummie!
Well I'm glad to hear that. I liked Moonlight but because of the writers' strike last year, Moonlight didn't get a chance to shine.
I liked Moonlight and not just because Alex was in it. I think CBS missed something thinking Alex was the only reason for the rabid Moonlight fans. This (Three Rivers) doesn't look like a show I am even interested in seeing a Pilot for.
The reason Moonlight had a great fan base was the fact that the show was really good... and Vampirism is all the rage now and days. Either way, I'll probably check this out- it sounds good.
It's great that Alex is back on TV screens, and the medical drama sounds quite promising. Let's hope CBS delivers.
Zzzzzzzz O'Loughlin in a serious role? Not playing hot & dangerous while still warm and safe? Wake me for his next series.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I am happy for Alex and hope CBS picks up his show but I really miss Moonlight. It was the best show ever.
