Motherhood, Samantha cut short

Mommy and daddy are jobless now!

To those of you out there preparing your In the Motherhood finale parties: stop. You're a week late. ABC has decided to pull both In the Motherhood and Samantha Who? from its schedule, which could signal that both shows are being shut down for the rest of the season.

The two shows are being lifted in favor of a Grey's Anatomy repeat; ABC thinks the Grey's repeat will work as a better lead in for this week's new episode of Grey's Anatomy as the medical drama winds down its season.

In the Motherhood has had a tough road to primetime, with its initial order cut from 13 to six early in its production. ABC then decided to pass over the show's sixth episode to bring back Ugly Betty early. Today's move means that In the Motherhood will only get four episodes aired; the show is not expected to return next season.

As for Samantha Who?, the shortening may just be a break. There are still over half a dozen episodes left in the season, which could be saved up for the summer or for next season, if the show gets picked up for a third cycle.

they put Samantha who on a 5 month hiatus brought it back, aired 3 episodes and now its gone again and they think that was a good idea?the show was doing well...does abc WANT to fail as a network?

  • angelfisherjo

I was disappointed Samantha Who was cut short :(

  • Alyssatao30

I give up on tv! They keep cancelling all my favourite shows!

All I can say yes alot of people say ABC can't keep good shows boy they are right. THeir problem they get to many shows for one net work and can't fit them all in one season. Sam Who can home a couplf months the first part of the season and then for what 3 weeks in April. All i can say is it's ABC fault for switching that show around so much. BUt it on another channle. I loved that show had great characters in it. Would have been a hit if ABC was more flexible with it and left it alone.

Geez I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. There is a really simple formula used by ABC: Take your favorite show - count the number of episodes commissioned for the season. Divide by two, add 1, or 2 if you're optimistic. That will be the number that air. If any kind of conclusion appears to be evident at the end of that number they will reduce the total by 1 more so that it isn't. The 10 highly paid executives responsible will then spend 3 months in fully serviced 5 star hotels rolling dice and arguing about which ones will get the final episodes played out at 8 to 10pm on Saturday night. 10 others will be busy commissioning the next wave of really promising, quirky, clever and intelligent shows for the first 10 executives to massacre next season... on so it goes on...moreless

  • LAURAMARIE63

To bad for Samantha Who; never heard of In the Motherhood, just the name makes me not interested.

  • gelman123

I can understand why Samantha who is being pulled, the writing has been pretty bad in season 2, they've really tried to milk this one dry!!! Can't comment on "In the Motherhood" as I have never watched an episode!!!

  • aldaros23

bah In The Motherhood had better writing than Grey's Anatomy (which has seriously gone down the tube).

  • BeachfrontGlass

Motherhood is crap but Smantha Who is funny!

  • bernsd3

Wow, ABC pulling shows too? When did that ever happen before? Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, just this year. Networks don't really have any brass ones anymore to leave good shows on the air.

  • hrgaffney

The constant rescheduling and stupid long breaks make me so mad, I think they do it on purpose so they can say 'oh look no-one's watching' and then cancel it.

  • Altercation666

Never showed either, but they looked like garbage. My thursday is either My name is Earl or Smallville in that timeslot. Which are both much better and a lot funnier.

  • peon4570

Both are junk can't say they will be missed.

  • TV_Fanatic

This is upsetting. How is a show suppose to make it when the Networks only give it a couple of weeks, MOTHERHOOD. As for Samantha Who? at first it kept changing time slot then it was not on for so many months and then it changed days. Again how is a show suppose to gather and keep it's following when the audience never knows when it's on!!!! Get it together!!!

  • LadyInque

WHat? They are going to cancel IN THE MOTHERHOOD? Damn woman just damn
Samantha Who? UI really lost some eps so i lost the interest but IN THE MOTHERHOOD? Why?
