NBC Bumps Parks and Recreation for the Next Three Weeks, to Make Room for The Voice and SNL

Remember that new NBC schedule we threw at you on Friday in the wake of the Welcome to the Family and Ironside cancellations? It was actually a treasure map to hell and we didn't fully notice it because it was Friday and lots of networks were busy canceling stuff, announcing Community's Season 5 premiere dategiving full-season orders to some shows or renewing other ones. Hidden amongst the boring stuff about Dateline and The Sing-Off and Kelly Clarkson's holiday special was this little nugget: NBC is preempting the next three episodes of Parks and Recreation

Technically the show's absence at 8pm was right there, staring us in the face, but it was a scheduling alert that NBC sent out this morning that really sealed the deal. If I were Leslie Knope, I'd probably hold a public forum or spin this into something positive, but I can't. There will be no new episode of Parks and Rec for the next three weeks, meaning Tatiana Maslany's second guest appearance, which was set to air this week, is now, uh, not airing this week, and the Halloween episode that was scheduled for October 31 is now airing closer to Thanksgiving. Parks and Rec will return on Thursday, November 14, with back-to-back new episodes. The show will also air back-to-back new episodes on Thursday, November 21.

In the meantime, you know what we're getting instead? This week, it's The Voice's fourth battle round from 8pm to 9pm, next week it's a Halloween-themed Saturday Night Live special, and then on November 7 it's the live playoffs of The Voice.

I'd like to recall this scheduling change, NBC.

I know this is a going to be an unpopular opinion, while I'm really upset to see it postponed, it belongs with quality shows like community and i'd rather have a solid block in january than an iffy one now.

damn, parks & rec is the only reason to watch NBC anymore. we still watch SNL too, but NBC used to be the place for comedy with 30 rick & the office.

it's just sad now.

Yup me too, Parks & Rec is the only show I watch on NBC as well.
I think its definitely the best comedy out there and its my favorite comedy show of all time given that it doesn't use cheap thrills (or barely so) such as raunchy humor, slapstick, or ludicrous situations and has a strong cast of characters that I all like which is just unheard of.

NBC is trying to boost their other comedies, the Michael J Fox show and Sean Saves the Poop. The Voice has that effect on NBC shows that follow it. Shows like Parks and Rec and Community already have a loyal fanbase that will always show up and watch them no matter when they air.

I'm fairly certain NBC created "The Voice" as a quick replacement when their bad shows failed, and they needed a quick replacement to piss off the people that watch their actually decent shows...it's like NBC is trying to kill itself.

Not much different from last year when NBC did the same with P&R and The Office. P&R is not a highly rated show; shows like that get preempted. But let's be honest. Does it really matter anymore? In this day and age, we can watch any episode we want online at any time.

Actually...no. In order for the internets to watch it, they have to air it on tv first. So it does matter. It sucks!

So in other words...it only matters if you're completely impatient. Each and every episode will air anyway; the only thing we're really losing is a few weeks that would have been repeats being replaced by the displaced episodes. In this day and time you can wait and watch all 22 at once.

I usually have no time for marathons. Does anyone in this day and age? I can live with a tv show being bumped for a couple of weeks. My life is not that pathetic...yet. It's just annoying. You just want them to run the shows for straight run. It's like reading a book and then putting it away for several weeks, by the time you start reading again you've forgotten half of the story. Also...the fact that it gets bumped for the more retarded concepts out there, is basically a slap in the face for the rest of us.

"You just want them to run the shows for straight run"

Not exactly. I'm just saying it doesn't matter anymore, they could run them that way online and we the audience would find it at some point anyway. As long as NBC runs the episodes at some point, it's not really a big deal. Although it does say a lot about P&R's bad ratings.

I have Dish Network, and right now we don't even have NBC because of some stupid ass beef between the two. I have a feeling this may have something to do with it? Maybe? Either that or this is Jerry's fault.

Chris Traeger is the possibly the best role Rob Lowe has ever played on tv; he continues to amaze me with his performance and i'll miss his character when he's gone. I love Ben Wyatt as well but I tend to prefer Adam Scott when he plays douchebag ladies men like in Step Brothers or Boy Meets World; Ben Wyatt is a little too straight laced...but still good.

This is the same network that thinks waiting until the END of October is the best way to boost ratings for Grimm and Dracula. Meanwhile, Sleepy Hollow, which has been running all through October, has become a success for another network.

Exactly how many days can they spread The Voice to. Now I am not watching the season, mostly because it is a singing show and I can't stand Aguilera. Maybe it is time for them to get better ideas. There is so much talent on Youtube that would be 1000x better than Welcome to the Family, Chicago fire, and basically 98% of their programs.

I like Kelly, so I'll watch her special and I'd assume it'd be on when the shows are planned to be off anyway... but NBC's taking their best comedy, and arguably the best show on the network in general, and putting on two of their worst shows instead? idiots.

NBC is such garbage... I can't even name a single good show on this network besides Parks and Rec-- and what they do, delay it for THE VOICE!?!?!? That's just plain WHACK!

I hope they realize that those singing shows will eventually get old and stale (they already are imo but I guess a lot of people haven't figured out how crappy they are yet)! Time to come up with some NEW and/or GOOD ideas NBC or you may not be a network anymore once everyone stops watching!

That is so stewpot! Sofa king stewpot! Who does this? I know NBC is hemorrhaging ratings on Thursdays, but putting specials in won't salvage the longterm problem, the shows on the schedule are the problem, they don't work together and people don't seem to want to watch them. You can't magically trick people into having faith after watching your network burn the timeslot to the ground for the last 5 years.

Wow, a primetime Thursday night show... and they preempt it with SNL Halloween sketches?

I guess if they dig REALLY deep in their endless sack of SNL videos they can find enough to pad the hour. And I mean going back to the old Dan Aykroyd era. BUT WHY?!?

Honestly, the only Halloween SNL sketch that I recall really liking was the Martha Stewart one: where she plays up how evil she really is and then does the funny bit at the end. And the Dan Aykroyd bit about the very evil / lethal (and cheap) childrens' costumes he would sell: like the plastic bag + rubber band == Spaceman helmet.

I think my favorite Halloween sketch was the one with Dana Carvey playing Ross Perot and all the "kids" come to his door. "I'm Egg-Beater Man. Now give me some candy!" It was hilarious.
