NBC keeps Lights on

It was fourth and very long for the NBC series Friday Night Lights, but it appears as though a desperation pass has been caught and the chains are moving.

NBC has approved a second season of the well-received high school football drama and is expected to announce the news shortly, according to Variety. Friday Night Lights is a darling of critics, but its renewal was in question because of disappointing ratings.

The show follows a high school football coach, played by Kyle Chadler (Early Edition, Tour of Duty), as he takes his team toward the championship. Friday Night Lights debuted on October 3, 2006.

I think this is a great show. I am very happy to see that it was given a 2nd season. I don't like that it's on Friday nights though. A lot of people will not yet be home from going to real high school football games, and therefore, I can't see how that will help the ratings at all. I know I will be setting the DVR to record it every week and will have to watch it on another day. GREAT show though...hopefully they continue to have it on for years to come.

This is good news. Now if NBC just keeps Studio 60 around, I'll be happy.

I don't understand why everyone loves this show. It's not funny, it's overly corny, and just plain dull. The actors and actresses aren't very easy on the eyes and it seems like a 5 year old is taping the show with a camcorder. I don't see the appeal. Kyle Chandler was wrong; NOT everyone who watches the show will fall in love with it.

According to Variety.com NBC is expected to order a "full 22 episode order". This is fantastic news. A new time slot, some better promotion and another year or two and this show could be the top show on the network. it's that good. Keeping my fingers crossed that Jericho is next to be renewed.

I'm hoping this is a FULL 2nd season, not just the measly 6 episodes I heard before. FNL most certainly deserves a renewal. It had heart and humanity and in no way was over the top. Just a bunch of regular people living in a small town living each day as best they could. The cast worked well together and I'm hoping for more for season 2. It could certainly get a ratings boost if they aired it after Heroes, another great series.
