NBC's first four series pickups were all about attracting female audiences, but the trio of pickups announced today falls squarely within man territory.
Headlining the group is The Playboy Club, a period piece set in 1963 at a legendary gentlemen's club in Chicago. The cast includes Hidden Palms' Amber Heard, Numb3rs' David Krumholtz, and CSI: Miami's Eddie Cibrian.
Also joining the Peacock's schedule this fall is Awake, previously titled REM. The show comes from Kyle Killen, whose last project, Lone Star, was critically favored but bombed spectacularly in the ratings. Awake stars Jason Isaacs as a man who lives through two separate realities after a tragic car accident.
Finally, Grimm is a dark cop drama about a policeman who discovers that the characters from Grimm's Fairy Tales may be real. Don't confuse it with the potential ABC series Happily Ever After, which is very similar.
Yesterday, NBC gave series orders to Up All Night, Prime Suspect, Whitney, and Smash.

I agree sounds very lame..
Sounds lame indeed
I liked "The Playboy Club" better when it was called "Swingtown". What makes anyone think its going to succeed this time around is beyond me.
The Playboy Club on NBC?? Already sounds lame...where's AMC, HBO and Showtime when you need them?
So, basically this Awake show deals with a person with a multiple identity "sickness". Count me out on that one. Sounds lame. Why does the Playboy show have to be set in 1963. I mean really, why just why?
I'm not surprised that The Playboy Club was picked up, since sex does sell. I really like David Krumholtz, so I may try to watch the show. Awake sounds a little like Life On Mars, to me,
Grimm and Awake sounds nice. Not to sure about The Playboy Club.
The Playboy Club should sound intriguing, but it doesn't. Mainly because it's on NBC. If it was on Showtime, I'd be expecting nudity and overall raunchiness, but NBC? It'll probably be tamer than Mad Men.
Yeah Awake and Grimm sounds pretty interesting. The Playboy Club won't work on network tv, especially NBC, it was meant for cable, although it will probably be as boring as Mad Men, which is obviously what they are shooting for. Wow....I do use a lot of comma's....:D
I'll probably check out Grimm and Awake. does this mean 17th Precinct didn't get picked up? i was more interested in that one.
Not really man territory, or I fall within it; Awake & Grimm sound like shows I want to check out to see if they are any good
Oh I just read that NBC renewed Parenthood!!
Awake feels like it could be another Journeyman,a show with great potential but wont be giving a chance to develop or it could be another Day Break a thoroughly boring show that tried too hard and will get cancelled quickly...I wonder if Moon will be in it.
I'm glad they picked up Grimm, although I didn't expect it. I don't think Awake really sounds that interesting. It sounds like it all resolves around the question of which reality is he awake in. But that sort of premise without a real story can get dull fast.
All three sound lame to me, don't think I'll be watching any of them
