NBC Renews Grimm for Season 2

Sometimes, fairy tales do come true. Aww! Grimm, NBC's new procedural with a fairy-tale twist, joined the NBC family last fall with little fanfare behind it, a crummy Friday-night slot, and the claim of being "that other new fairy-tale show." Now it's the first new NBC series of the 2011-2012 season to make it to Season 2.

Battling fellow genre shows Fringe and Supernatural on Friday nights, Grimm has performed well enough to be one of NBC's more surprising shows, though that ain't saying much. Its most recent episode, which aired March 9, drew just over 5 million viewers and a 1.5 in the 18- to 49-year-old demo.

Though overshadowed by the more flamboyant fairy-tale drama Once Upon a Time, Grimm has a pretty unique thing going for it. It's dark. Even... grim, one would say. Ouch, sorry about that. Plus it's filmed in my city, Portland, Oregon, so it's got a beautiful setting to match its tone.

This is likely the first of many renewals by NBC to come. Which other new shows are you hoping will get good news?

I love this show with all it's craziness, it's great. I enjoy the cast and can't wait to see more of it. I hope Grimm finds he has usual powers, nothing too far fetched but a little of this and that! Thank Thank you!

this is good news.

What I hope for is the Grimm to stretch his legs next season, learn some bad-ass moves like his aunt must have learnt, pull out some ancient weapons, and go bust up some creatures of the night.

Also, he should get down with his cute GF and breed some more grimms to help him in his conquest!!!! :-)

that's one thing I've never understood. All these monsters are supposed to be afraid of Grimms but you never see him do anything "Grimm-like."

Yeh, when we saw in the Pilot some 80-something Cancer Patient kick the crap out of a monster assassin with her Grimm kung fu... I figured we'd start seeing him realize he's stronger/faster/etc than a normal person.

Not seeing that much going on.

Yeah I agree, but I do think there is a reason for that as well. I think his aunt didn't want him to have the life of a "Grimm". She raised him as her own son. And I think had she wanted him to be one he probably would of been trained for it.

This hole season I believe is him learning to be a Grimm on his own with no training. I think or hopefully next season will be somebody training him to be a proper Grimm.

My wife is hoping Community get picked up. As for me, Harry's Law. Mostly, I want ALL reality shows to be CANCELLED. I am proud to say I don't watch, and never have watched, any reality shows (including talent shows), and I think less of anyone who does.

So can this Grimm guy do anything besides look metrosexual for an hour?

I think your right Liamaland. If it wasn't because i watched OuaT with a friend, i would properly just use it for background-noise. But Grimm is totally awesome.

Grimm is great. It is "THE" fairy tale show! OuaT has already begun to bore me.

That's Great!!! I really want to see what kind of special powers Grimms possess. I'm really hoping for laser eye beams.

good news. Grimm is not spectacular but pretty robust entertainment.

Grimm (Renewed)

Harry's Law

Community

Awake

The Firm (Most unlikely)

Are You There, Chelsea? (Most unlikely)

Whitney (Most unlikely)

Wow, NBC really doesn't have that many great shows left, do they?

It's looking as if this could be the last year for Harry's Law. It dropped a lot from first year. Community is also on shaky ground, but NBC can't let too much go. It's too early to say how Awake fares but the latest ratings don't look good. I think they'll dump it and take a chance on something else.

Thank you, NBC, for renewing Grimm! I look forward to seeing what season two brings to the party.

While Fringe is my favorite show, I still really like this one too. I too think the renewal for Grimm is well--deserved.

yey! :D i like this show. excited to watch it on fridays with fringe and supernatural. :)

This is NBC's one and only 'successful' new drama, so the renewal is a no-brainer. It's actually turned into a pretty good show for being yet another procedural with a twist.

In a perfect world, Parenthood and Awake would also return, but we all know NBC is more invested in producing terrible comedies these days.

You should be reviewing Grimm instead of Alcatraz, Tim.

That's good news, for a while there I thought it was going to have the same fate as *The Dresden Files*.

I am happy this cool new show is returning.

I suspect NBC is planning to keep it on Friday nights. They don't really have anything else for the slot and it has been hurting FOX (Fringe) and The CW (Supernatural).

During the face-off with Once Upon a Time, I immediately chose the latter. This show has really grown on me, though. I'm really happy it got renewed.

Undeserved. The one and only thing on NBC I care about is Community.

More like well-deserved! It's the only successful new show NBC has, and survived opposite Supernatural and Fringe! Add the good characters and storyline, and what we have is a good renewal decision.

Great news. Anything that means more Bitsie Tulloch on my tv, is great news.

Guintoli needs to stop being clueless and start digging into the trailer-trove of stuff his Aunt left him. He acts as though he wants nothing to do with it and would prefer to be rid of it. He needs to have the same interest and curiosity Weir-Mitchell had in the episode where he visited it. Tired of him relying on W-M all the time.

His partner is another matter. How long is he going to be left in the dark concerning all the strange cases he's been getting?

I also wonder if it might be cool to have normal cases every now and then that are not monster related, or at least indirectly, such as having some creature go to the cops for help with a human friend. They could then have more character development and Guintoli can be seen studying in the trailer and/or learning more about the Grimms. Having EVERY case be monster related may stretch credibility.

The Amy Acker spider-woman episode bothered me in that she starts aging at the end. Doesn't anyone notice that? What happens to her if/when authorities do? The show fails in their dismissal of such events, particularly when the monsters are trying to hide from society all this time. How is Acker's situation explained and by who if anyone? Is there a group that cleans up in these cases?

I agree they should give him some special abilities and/or senses. I would also like to know how the monsters know he is a Grimm without his noting it and/or how they perceive him as such, if there is something they notice.

I really like Oregon and wished Once Upon A Time shot there, even though I stopped watching that, but it might have helped me like it more.

I watched the first five episodes or so but gave up as I was hoping for more progression of the main overlying grimm story rather than the procedural stopping of a different creature each episode. Has it picked up much? Or in other words, will I be feeling the same way if I catch up?
Reply
Flag
no but it still rules. but if you feel that way about the procedural aspect i would say don't bother.

Yep, I am with you there Annie. Although Nick is nice eye candy.. I am in love with Monroe. His character keeps me watching every episode. His eccentricities are fabulous and he has THE best lines. Soooo happy it has been renewed. I cannot stand 'Once upon a time'.

I'm really pleased it has been renewed. I used to prefer OUAT over Grimm but have found lately (since they killed off Graham, actually) that I'm looking forward to Grimm more each week. I think it has taken a little while to find it's feet and some of the German names are a bit silly (and inaccurate) but the stories are improving and I really like Silas Weir Mitchell!

Since I have no idea what else screens on NBC (I live in New Zealand and have to download all the good American shows) I can't comment on other shows I'd like them to renew :)

I actually enjoy Grimm (although I'm guilty of watching it on Demand rather than on Fridays). I am also from Portland, so I enjoy seeing places I recognize. Even though I know all shows do this, it's funny to watch them walking in a neighborhood that's on one side of Portland, then they round a corner and they are on the other side of town.

What a good news another great show that I don't like gets renewed!!!!

This show is so lame, the actors are uninspired, the stories are boring.

I fell asleep during both episode one and two, at least The River's fun, nuff said.

Have a nice day everyone!!!

What a pity! We will have a nice day knowing that this great show did get renewed, despite your opinion. Ha!

By the way, I do agree that The RIver is fun.

I'm glad it got renewed. Does anybody know if OUaT has been renewed for a second season?

New shows I'm hoping will get good news: AWAKE!

great show but I can't help wonder if the ratings would be better if they were more consistent with the airing of the show just like many others they air one week then a week or (for shame 2 weeks). Doesn't give people a chance to settle into it. As far as competing with Supernatural I don't know but the feeling I get is that show (the die hards will disagree) is on the way down. I use to love it but it should've ended about 2 seasons ago.

Nice! It's a fun little show, a guilty pleasure without the guilt part. But I hope though that we would see more of Bitsie Tulloch than just one minute per episode.

I LOVE this show; I think if you embrace it as sort of a procedural with an overall story arc it makes more sense. It actually reminds me a lot of Buffy in that monster of the week kinda way, although Nick needs to get down to some actual slaying. But yeah I look forward to it way more than Once Upon A Time.

Also it's hilarious how many gruesome murders supposedly take place in Portland of all places.

Grimm is the kind of show that will get better in season 2. Season 1 Pilot ending sequence was freaking amazing - the cinematography, the sound,, style,, (I am referring to the one with the Marylin manson sweet dreams) and that was the scene that convinced me to continue with Grimm,,, But, it seems that the next episodes,,, were not like that,, that gothic/tim burton vibe that I got from the last scene of the pilot was exchanged with poor CGI , fairy style trasnformations and a 1 episode shallow storylines. I watch Grimm,, but I think it can do so much better and become actually 'dark' with many turns and twists. Also,,, one thing I don't understand,, what s so special about the Grimm ,except that he can see them,, He doesn't have any powers or something that would explain why everyone is afraid of him as the big bad Grimm... I'm just saying....

I think he does has powers, but just doesn't know how to use them yet. Remember how bad ass his Aunt was before she died? Can't be natural for a women of that age to move like that. Especially sick!

I love this show so much! this is really a great news for me.. both characters developed very nicely throughout the season, and it became one of my favorite shows with decent mythology, storytelling and darkness.. and it deserved this renewal as it survived quite well against all other shows on Friday night..

I'm pretty happy about this. At this point in time, I enjoy Grimm a bit more than OUAT. As everyone else has been saying, it started off a little slow but it's gotten significantly better as the season has gone on... the last 3-4 episodes have been pretty cool. The biggest compliment I can give is that David Giuntoli is tolerable to watch as the top-billed.

Not really bothered about Grimm, I gave up after episode four.

I hope that Community and Awake both get renewed. Community is genius. I wasn't sure about Awake before it started, I was even considering just giving it a miss, but it's a good show so I'm glad I didn't.

hurray! One of my favorite quotes of this year is from that show:

"You have talent, man, it's true, I just heard it. And I've been around a lot of people who thought they had talent, myself included. But the real thing, man, the real thing is an impossibility! You don't know where it comes from or what made it but it's one of the mysteries of life that lifts us all out of the misery of average. And one of the problems is you people that have it don't think it's any big deal and that just pisses me off! The bottom line is you don't just throw that away."

Good news - Grimm has started slow but it has some promise....Give Monroe and the shady but seriously charismatic police chief more screen time and this can become a classic...
