NBC streams shows over holiday break

For those who missed out on NBC's new shows Friday Night Lights and 30 Rock, you have the chance to catch up on the whole season so far over the holiday break. Both shows will stream free at NBC.com until mid-Janaury.

Web surfers can catch the first nine episodes of Lights and the first seven of Rock. To stream the episodes free, viewers will have to watch an ad they can't skip through. The shows will remain on the site until each show returns with new episodes in Janaury.

"We think it's a great way to recruit new viewers, especially college kids who are home for Christmas break," said Jeff Gaspin, NBC U president of cable entertainment and digital distribution.

Both shows have struggled in the ratings since premiering in the fall. Rock ticked upward once it was moved to Thursdays, settling at a 2.8 rating, while Lights has held steady at a 2.6 average rating, with 6 million average weekly viewers.

I think it is a great idea for the networks (ABC too) to be doing this. It gives people a chance to see episodes that they missed, or a chance to watch something they haven't yet. The reruns and Christmas specials during the holiday season are old and tired (like me... LOL). I love that there is something fresh!

If people are not watching Friday Night Lights on TV, why would they want to see it over the Internet. I remain amazed that NBC has stayed with this show.

I can understand how the show wouldn't appeal to some people, but Friday Night Lights is at least a decent show.

Greenlightfox..you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Friday Night Lights (FNL) is one of the best dramas to hit TV this fall. That is why NBC picked it up for another season. Watch the show before you make conclusions that may rub people off the wrong way. You are PROBABLY one of those people that just watch commercials and then judge the show. Watch more than one episode of FNL, and we'll see how bad it is then.
