NBC touts reality summer

Families all over the country this summer will be waving the old Red, White, and Blue and cheering for American athletes competing on the other side of the world in the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. In order to stoke the patriotic fire, NBC--which has exclusive broadcast rights to the popular worldwide competition--thinks it's a good idea to stuff its summer schedule with reality shows.

Under the banner of "NBC's All-American Summer," the programming schedule for the warm months of the year will include the returns of American Gladiators, Last Comic Standing, Nashville Star, and America's Got Talent, as well as the premieres of Baby Borrowers, Fear Itself, and Celebrity Circus. A list of each show's premiere date is below.

Although most television viewers know about the returning shows (the titles are pretty much self-explanatory), the new shows may need a bit of a refresher.

Baby Borrowers is a bit of a misnomer, given that the participants also "borrow" toddlers, teens, and senior citizens. The reality show lets young couples--really young, ages 18-20--experience the "joys" of parenthood by taking care of babies and the other age groups previously mentioned over a span of three weeks.

Celebrity Circus is pretty much Dancing with the Stars with no dancing and a lot more circus performances. Celebrities will partner up with circus pros and then do the whole "get voted off" thing after each episode. The show's judges and celebrities will be revealed at a later date.

Finally, Fear Itself is an original horror anthology series that will run 13 episodes. The show will feature actors Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Cynthia Watros (Lost's Libby), and others in self-contained tales of terror.

Premiere dates for NBC's All-American Summer are below.

May 12-- two-hour premiere of American Gladiators 8-10 p.m.

May 22--season premiere of Last Comic Standing 9:30-11 p.m.

May 29--series premiere of Fear Itself--10-11 p.m.

June 9--season premiere of Nashville Star 9:30-11 p.m.

June 11--two-hour premiere of Celebrity Circus 9-11 p.m.

June 24--season premiere of America's Got Talent 9-11 p.m.

June 25--series premiere of The Baby Borrowers 8-9 p.m.

I love this show! I look forward to next week! This show is going to do a good job educating teenagers about the hardship associated with parenthood.

America's Got Talent is just a waste of money. Why can't they cancel it for once? It is more terrible than American Idol

nothing is worng with repeats...but people don't watch them like they would watch a new episode of something a little bit entertaining. something high in ratings usualy wins.

Fear Itself sounds interesting, but as far as all this reality crap is concerned it just goes to prove that NBC stands for Nothing But Crap.

at least Fear itself isn't a fakeality show.

what's wrong with repeats? it lets people try out shows they couldn't watch during the regular season.

Everyone should know this:

Masters of Horror IS Fear Itself

for the 3rd season it's getting a new name and network. Showtime cancelled it but Lionsgate commissioned a 3rd season thus NBC and the title Fear Itself comes in.

hey, let's not bag on nbc so early...has anyone ever paid attention to summer scheduals? there is a HUGE drop in ratings in the summer because it's better outside, so at least they aren't putting on endless repeats! some of these do sound a bit "over the shark" already though...

if you want networks to start spending money on summer tv, start watching it! or get your friends to!

I'll give Fear Itself a chance, as long as NBC can manage to pull it off well.

So....... Last Comic Standing is the only one I care about. Majority of that is garbage.

NBC lost a viewer. I hate reality shows. One loss wont hurt them though.

Olympics...PASS! The way the rest of the world sees the US lately, we'll be lucky to win Bronze. The foreign judges are all corrupt anyway!

Celebrity Circus sounds like a "reality tv competition" of the old series Circus of the Stars that ended in the mid-1990s. They should bring back Circus of the Stars and nix Celebrity Circus. Why does almost all reality tv have to be a competiton these days?!?

I don't watch the olympics. Never have and never will. I'm a bit curios about baby borrowers and maybe the circus one, and Fear Itself

What kind of person hates the Olympics? NBC is about to lose their status as the must watch network. All this reality tv is so lame. Bring back good sitcoms and dramas - something that families can watch together.

If I can remember, i'll only be watching: American Gladiators 8-10 p.m.

And NBC drops another level in my book. More cheap pathetic reality TV. Sadly people seem to watch it for some reason...
