NBC wants more Kath & Kim

TV viewers optimistically keeping an eye on NBC's upcoming comedy Kath & Kim got some good news today. The show, an adaptation of the Australian hit of the same name, has seen its episode order increase from 6 to 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The program had an unusual birth in today's TV business world: NBC opted to skip the pilot process and order Kath & Kim straight to series. The show reportedly finished shooting its first half-hour episode, and apparently things looked good enough to the network to warrant an order for seven more episodes.

Kath & Kim stars Saturday Night Live's Molly Shannon as a 40-something divorced mother who lives in the 'burbs with her daughter, played by Hellboy's Selma Blair.

Today's move is exactly the opposite of a similar scenario that played out last year over at Fox. The Return of Jezebel James, another comedy starring two well-known female actresses (Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose), received an initial episode order of 13 before getting cut down to seven. Shortly after, the show was canceled after just three episodes.

I can not believe that NBC has ordered more Kath and Kim junk! NBC must not read blgs or reviews!! Or they are trying to tank themselves and then try to blame it on the economy like everyone else, when really it was dumb executive decisions like this one! MORE LIPSTICK JUNGLE!!!! Get rid of this junk

This looked as bad as Jezebel James by the commercials. I just don't think Selma Blair has the comedic timing. And enough is enough with Molly Shannon. She's the penultimate "name" casting whose name isn't really that big.

I've never seen the Australian version but i like these two actresses very much, so it's good news to me. (By the way, The Return of Jezebel James was really funny)

Wauw, a bit hasty isn't it? Sure the show looks nice, but skipping the pilot? But then again, The Return of Jezebel James (which was very funny by the way) proved that orders mean squad, so everything can still change.

Hmm...I'm not sure if this can work. The whole point in the original, is that it's VERY Australian, and was making fun of that fact. Don't know if this will translate well into an American show. I guess we'll see, but I have my doubts. Prove me wrong!

If this series is even half as bad as the Australian version they'll be cutting it after 3 episodes too.
