Netflix's YA Fantasy Game Remains Strong With New Shadow and Bone Series

Netflix is going hard on the YA fiction lately, and we're not mad about it.

The streaming service announced Thursday that it has picked up Shadow and Bone for an eight-episode series. The show will be based on Leigh Bardugo's bestselling Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows Grishaverse fantasy novels, which are just as enchanting as they are addicting.

The series will unite the two overlapping book series, and it will follow the heroine of Shadow and Bone, a young soldier named Alina. When Alina discovers a hidden power that propels her straight into the Grisha, the elite world of those who practice magic, her whole world is turned upside down. As she learns to control her abilities, she'll also have to navigate through a brewing war to save the once-great nation of Ravka.

Book fans worried about whether this adaptation will be as good as the novels need not worry. Netflix has tapped Eric Heisserer, who wrote the recent Netflix hit Bird Box, and Shawn Levy, executive producer of Stranger Things, to helm the project. For those of you who are fantasy fans who haven't read the series yet... get thee to Amazon and buy them all at once. You won't regret it!
