Netflix Renews Longmire for Season 5

We'll likely never be privy to Netflix's viewership numbers, but it's probably safe to assume that saving Longmire from cancellation after A&E axed the Western drama in 2014 proved to be a fruitful business decision. Netflix has renewed the Robert Taylor-led series for Season 5, the streaming service announced Friday.

"We've never been one to back down from a fight. Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5," read the Facebook post announcing the renewal. No other information was made available, but at the moment, who really needs to know more?

In addition to Taylor, Longmire stars Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Lou Diamond Phillips (Southland), Cassidy Freeman (Smallville), and Adam Bartley (Justified).

Are you a Longmire fan? Does this new make you all giddy inside?

Just finished watching season 4, great season. The scenery is fantastic. Possibly only matched by Hell on Wheels later seasons. Don't know what it is about Longmire, maybe it's because I've always loved reading about the American West, early America etc etc but even though it's slower paced than most of the shows I watch I like just sitting back and absorbing it. Chilling out watching it yet I don't find myself reaching for my phone or missing any of it. Anyways, made up they got a season 5 out of it. And I do quite like the differences between the show and the books :D

This show continues to awaken my continual need to learn about our Western Heritage. I am fascinated by the way historical events are intermixed with the story each week. So glad that Netflix has chosen to keep this great mystery going!

👍👍. Netflix asked me to fill in a survey about Longmire. I said it's a fan & I wanted more episodes but I was not very impressed about the last 10 minutes. It'll be good if there is a season 6 it's greenlit before season five is finished production.

Yes! I liked how Netflix managed to keep original concept but gave it its own spin with longer and tighter story arches instead of previous case of the week format.

Anyway, it's great news! To bad no airing date is available but I'll stick to the good news; Longmire is coming back!

Is this the first time a streaming company has ordered second post-cancel season after "saving" a show after network cancelation? Either way, congrats are in order.

Very excited for this, go Netflix! It was a great season 4, here's to 5! Oh, and Netflix, seeing as how you're being awesome saving really good shows, how about a little save for the best show ever - Person of Interest??? You know you want to....

If the writers think there's enough material to keep the show going strong, I would love it if Netflix picked up Person of Interest for more seasons. Hopefully there are enough people watching it on Netflix for them to gain interest (lol) in it.

Hopefully writers have made material for Season 5 already and team rdy to start filming soon. Saying that cause Netflix took a bit longer with renewal than expected. Month earlier would've been better, but SO Good that it was renewed :)

That's all very hopeful, Eagleheart1980. Let me add my own: hopefully they'll put it on before Xmas. 2015. Now that'd be excellent!

But I won't hold my breath. Next year is good, too, as long as it's coming – that's all we need to know.

While I think its cool a saved show gets another season, I just couldn't get myself to watch past the first ep of s4. It just really got on my nerves that yet again the the main chick just had to be matched up with the main dude. I really liked the show thinking they didn't have that relationship and were not going to, even though everyone else assumed so. (And of course the fact that she is his daughter's age bother's me too.) Is The KIlling going to be the only show to not make lovers of opposite sex partners ? and hey Netflix, why couldn't you renew THAT better show when you had it.

I hear you on 'the chick' and 'the main dude', man, but it never happened (in season 4) and 'the main dude' doesn't seem to be interested, even if 'the chick' is.

LOL yeah, false hope. Seriously, TV shows (or movies for that matter) don't always stick to the original story line. So as for hope, it may not actually be false at all. Watch and you will learn, grasshopper. 😉

Well, to be fair, everyone assumed so because the show is based off of novels where it happens. Of course the show could've decided to go another route, but this wasn't a tv melodrama scenario, they stayed true to the source material.

Yeah, i know it was based on books, but that doesn't mean i have to like that fantasy scenario anyway. I'd react the same reading the books.
Plus, The Killing is a sore spot for me.

are there any noticeably differences in the show now that it's moved to netflix?
Reply

Oct 30, 2015
The episodes are longer (the shortest episode is about 55 minutes, and there are 4 episodes that go over an hour), which allows them to flesh out the stories a bit more. But overall, I think the show feels pretty much the same as what it was before it moved to Netflix.

Episodes are slightly longer, more swearing, and I think the quality improved (camera work, cameras used etc).

Yes, i'm a fan. Goosebumps all over. But binge-watching isn't so good for my circadian rhythm. I was binge-watching Longmire a month ago on a Friday evening and suddenly i noticed: It's already light outside. How did that happen? Well, it's that good.

The same thing happened with Sense8 and probably will happen again with Jessica Jones on November 20, 2015. Netflix is killing me. (and the gallons of Red Bull i drink during a binge)
