Netflix's Next Wet Hot American Summer Is Blasting Into the Future

Remember that part in Netflix's Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp when they all agreed to meet up again in 10 years? I think it went something like this:

Well Michael Ian Black better start squeezing into some tight early-'90s t-shirts now, because Netflix is bringing back Wet Hot American Summer and adding the suffix 10 Years Later for Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, a true sequel to the 2001 comedy film. Well, we have to assume. There are zero plot details about the new series.

Ten Years Later will consist of eight 30-minute episodes, just like First Day of Camp, and be released in 2017. That should give you plenty of time to watch the movie and the Netflix prequel in case you haven't. Because if you haven't, you are missing out on one of the great cult comedies of the last 20 years and arguably Netflix's funniest comedy

Wet Hot American Summer comes from The State members David Wain and Michael Showalter, and features Michael Ian Black, Ken Marino, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Joe LoTruglio, Elizabeth Banks, Zack Orth, Paul Rudd, Marguerite Moreau, Janeane Garafolo, and many, many more. More like H. Jon Benjamin, Jon Hamm, John Slattery, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Kristen Wiig, Chris Pine, Michaela Watkins, Josh Charles, Randall Park, Michael Cera, Lake Bell, Rob Heubel, Paul Scheer, and Jordan Peele. It's like the cast of the new Twin Peaks, but funny instead of weird.

Psyched?

Forgot to add - this will be cool cause essentially - if you look at these as a trilogy - they went Ep 2, E1, and now finally EP3. A perfect Wet Hot way to do it!

The original Wet Hot American Summer movie was excellent - just so far ahead of its time in terms of dark satire comedy that critics didn't know what to think of it. It's a great movie - you should seriously check it out.

Then you most likely missed a bunch of jokes that were callbacks to the movie

I really didn't like the Netflix series. The movie was great, but the jokes wore pretty thin for me in First Day of Camp. It had some moments, though, but overall fell pretty flat.

Been there, done that:

This was a really funny sting the way it was set up, so doing a whole show based on it should ruin the impact and further cripple the uniqueness of the original film.

Way to give yr support there Debbie Downer. A lot of people said the same thing about the series and yet most of us loved it - and all the call backs to the original. Wain and Showwalter are great - I have faith that this will be great as well.
