New NBC sched pushes Heroes

NBC opted to play its cards boldly this year, announcing its fall lineup well before its rivals did. Of course, the early reveal came with the caveat that things were most certainly subject to change.

And change they did. Today, NBC revealed the premiere dates for fall's new and returning shows, with things kicking off in mid-September before the bigger guns come out later that month.

America's Toughest Jobs leads things off on September 12, up from its previously announced summer 2009 date. The show will rip a dozen contestants away from their normal day jobs and thrust them into a variety of challenging occupations, such as oil drilling, lumber logging, or extreme fishing.

A little over a week later, NBC relaunches one of its big properties in Heroes. The third season was supposed to kick off on September 15 with a three-hour event that includes a two-hour season premiere. But alas, Heroes fans, the premiere has been delayed...an entire week!

The third season of Heroes will debut on Monday, September 22, starting off with a one-hour "clip show" (NBC's words, not ours). A week later, NBC's normal Monday night goes into full effect, with Heroes sandwiched between Chuck's second season premiere at 8 p.m. and the series debut of My Own Worst Enemy at 10 p.m.

New comedy Kath & Kim joins NBC's Thursday night comedy block (the show was originally announced for Tuesdays). The rest of the comedy block comes back at different times: My Name is Earl and The Office return September 25 (as does ER), and 30 Rock comes back on October 30.

Rounding out the remaining new-show premieres are Knight Rider on Wednesday, September 24 and Crusoe on Friday, October 17.

Below is NBC's current schedule for the fall 2008-2009 season.

Friday, September 12
America's Toughest Jobs Series Premiere (8-10 p.m.)
Returns on September 19 (8-9 p.m.) for five weeks; then resumes from 9-10 p.m. on October 24

I guess I am in the minority. HEROES, for me, had a great first 7 episodes, but then it started falling apart to where I found myself totally not caring about the show or the characters by the end of the first season, and the second year was something my wife watched while I changed the catbox.

cant wait for heroes to come back. hopefully they pick up the quality back to where it was in 1st season, second wasnt as good(could have been better).

it will be worth the wait until october for Life. it was one of my favorite shows to watch last season. If waiting a little longer for a show means we get better quality then I am all for it. lets hope that Heroes is worth the wait.

Heroes like a lot of other quality television was a victim of the writers strike and I think the creators should be applauded for still delivering a highly watchable if shorter season. Most shows have trouble matching a strong debut (remember Lost Season 2?) yet Heroes still kept its head above water. Now the writers have got down from their soapbox I am sure we can expect a more level and coherent quality of viewing for the time being. Lost, Battlestar, Heroes and newer shows like Terminator did will to ride out the writers strike with their story arcs and integrity in place. I am convinced Season 3: Villians will surpass Season 2 of Heroes and put the show back on track if it did indeed lose its way that is.

Was season 2 of Heroes even finished? I've heard it wasn't, I truly am not sure it was really confusing. Whatever, I hope the third is better! But the push back......I hope it doesn't happen again!

The first season of Life was fantastic, I'm pleased it's getting a second season, it really is a well written show. Heroes first season was impressive but I couldn't help but feel the writing took a nose dive for the second season... Perhaps it was the looming shadow of a then hinted at writers strike, but some of the dialogue was just dire! I'm looking forward to the next season of Heroes and am hoping the writing has improved. Chuck was an unexpected surprise, not much substance but strangely addictive, I'm glad it too has been renewed. The only show I'm a little concerned about is Kath & Kim... Is it the original Australian Kath & Kim (in which case the jokes probably won't make much sense in the northern hemisphere) or is this an American remake? (in which case the jokes probably won't make sense in the northern hemisphere)...

Heroes is amazing and if you don't like it you are just salty because you missed the boat.

Yes, now we have one more weak before the Heroes fanboys try to convince everyone that they're watching the best show on television. Pft.

US television seems to be finally getting it's act together and realising intelligent viewers don't want to wait weeks between each continuing story arc of any given show. I'd personally rather wait for Heroes to kickoff its debut than put up with the kind of intermittent nonsense that sports/memorial day weekends/profit margins and greed generally complicate. We, as viewers pay these people's wages and we should be treated with respect and a consistent even flow of quality viewing.

Looking forward to the return of HEROES and MEDIUM, the latter won't be until January '09, unfortunately. The rest of NBC's line-up doesn't excite me too much. I might catch up on 30 ROCK on DVD this summer so as to tune in this fall.

Wow Chuck premieres late this year...Sad. I'm kind of looking forward to My Own Worst Enemy too.

I'm excited for Heroes. Odd that they decided to push things BACK a week with all of the recent announcements like FOX starting in August. Odd how late Crusoe is starting though. almost a month after everyone else...

Life is at a terrible time, wednesdays at 10 was the perfect time slot. I only mention this because Numb3rs is on at 10 on Fridays and I don't want either show to be canceled because of falling ratings at the friday night death slot.

Now after all of that I hope that Scrubs will make the ABC line Up seeing as ABC Studios/Tuchtone/Buena Vista produces the show for NBC. What is this I hear ER on it's final season.. that is so sad

Well, thank goodness that Heroes is only pushed back a week. I'd rather have that than a partial season like season two.
