News Briefs: A Sex and the City Prequel Is Headed to The CW

SHOE SALE NEWS

... Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! OMG you guys The CW ordered a pilot for The Carrie Diaries, an adaptation of Candace Bushnell's Sex and the City prequel! The show would be set in the 1980s, when Carrie Bradshaw's total number of boy-toy conquests was still in the single digits and she hadn't yet learned to add triple sec and lime juice to her vodka-and-cranberrys. The CW also ordered a pilot for its Green Arrow project, Arrow, and one for a re-imagining of the 1980s CBS show Beauty and the Beast. [Deadline Hollywood]

KARMA NEWS

... The CW premiered its new reality series Remodeled last night, and... haha, really, this is great. Oh man. So it's a show about a modeling agent with an ego the size of Canada and his quest to start a network of smaller agencies so he can yell at his vampire assistant. Seriously. It's horrible. Anyway, you'll have to trust me that it was on last night, because I'm sure you didn't watch it. Only 700,000 people did, which was good for a 0.3 rating in the adult demo, good for the worst-rated premiere in the history of The CW. Worse than H8R. That, in my professional opinion, is a shitty start. [TV By the Numbers]

DEVELOPMENT NEWS

... Syfy has ordered its first pilot since 2010, settling on Rewind. In the action thriller, scientists and military dudes travel back in time to alter it, in hopes of preventing a terrorist attack in the future. The pilot will run two hours and presumably serve as a test for a potential series. [Syfy, via press release]

WHOLE LOTTA CASTING NEWS

... Theo Rossi, who plays Juice on Sons of Anarchy, will stop by Fox's new series Alcatraz. He'll play a violent businessman who is locked up at The Rock in the tenth episode. [EW]

... Freaks and Geeks alum Martin Starr is dropping by New Girl as a friend of Nick's from his law school days. Look for him in March. [E! Online]

... Sarah Silverman has a pilot in the works at NBC, and now she has two co-stars. Comedians Harris Wittels and June Diane Raphael will play two people who live in the same building as Silverman's newly single character Susan. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Rescue Me's Daniel Sunjata has landed a lead role in an untitled drama pilot at USA. The show actually sounds pretty good: It follows four agents from various law enforcement agencies who live at a safe house. Manny Montana, Vanessa Ferlito, and Aaron Tveit round out the main cast. [Deadline Hollywood]

... ABC has selected its next piece of meat for The Bachelorette. Emily Maynard, the blonde single mom from North Carolina, returns after dumping Brad Womack. Emily is also the chick all the guys wanted to compete for in the last edition but instead were disappointed by Ashley. [People]

... Christopher Heyerdahl is joining True Blood as... a vampire! You don't sound excited yet. That's probably because you don't quite recognize Heyerdahl's name. He's the guy who stole the show on Hell on Wheels as the Swede. He's also the man who played Alistair on Supernatural (Season 4). Yes, that dude. He's awesome. [Deadline Hollywood]

... LL Cool J is hosting the Grammys. The celebration of all things horrible in music will air February 12 on CBS. [Associated Press]

... Jeff Goldblum is continuing his streak of playing TV dads on holiday episodes following his fantastic turn as Ruxin's dad on the Thanksgiving episode of The League. Goldblum will play one of Rachel's gay dads on Glee starting February 14, which I hear is some sort of holiday according to my nagging better half. Broadway's Brian Stokes will play dad number two. The show ReModeled is awesome! I did some research on Paul and this concept and he's really got something special happening. Kaela Humphries (Kris Humphries' sister) appeared on the premiere show as a model AND she walked in the Richie Rich show at NY Fashion Week in September. This ins't your typical reality show BS, it's real, these models aren't actors as far as I can tell. Definitely going to watch again. I see this replacing other crappy fashion shows as my new obsession!

I agree! I loooveed seeing the behind the scenes of fashion week- don't think I've seen that before. That Paul guy is freaking hilarious. Def going to keep watching Remodeled.

  • Miss_Mouse88

Sooo excited for the new season of True Blood!!! It's gonna be good :)

  • misslee022884

Finally!! For years I would watch 'Sex and the City; reruns and think to myself, "I wonder what these women were like when they were younger?" There'd be mornings when I'd wake up and say, "Is today the day when a 'Sex and the City' prequel will be announced?" Now, I can finally see what upper class white women act like as teenagers, I mean aside from Gossip Girl and 90210. Thanks, CW!

  • hockeyrick

Goldblum sounds like the ONLY redeeming thing going for Glee at this point in time, it really is sucking!!!!

  • lalaforever1989

Sooooooooo now i get to watch Samantha get run through by guys with their collars turned up wearing thriller jacekts? Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • Spoontown

Lol February 14th a holiday, what a load of crap, about as much of a holiday as Halloween.....

  • JT_Kirk

Wow, lots of really poor development news.

As for Chris Heyerdahl, I recognized his name from Sanctuary, where he plays not 1 but 2 regular characters (one of them is Bigfoot!).

  • Sbriseno07

Sex and the city prequel...Gayer than Twilight

  • GeraldC7

The Sex and City prequel is a terrible idea.... I mean the film sequel was bad enough. That being said, the other two pilots look interesting and a step forward for the CW.
As for Remodeled, I'm not to sad for them as I was pissed when they delayed Ringer because of it.

  • becksdakex

    UGH! Be gone SATC prequel!

  • aliSuz

Ehhhh I love Sex and the City but will not watch the CW's prequel. We already know who she ends up with and everything. So what's the point? And the CW needs to stop with their so called reality shows haha.

Four agents in a house sounds like something I would watch. House parties + CIA secret missions = awesome

  • coutterhill

My concern with the prequel to Sex and the City is that if it is based on the book, The Carrie Diaries, it won't follow the show; the book was different from what the show set up. In the show, Carrie said her father left her and her mother when she was young, but in the book, her dad is raising her and her sister. That would be irritating to me if they followed the book.

  • fweak

Rewind sounds fun, Syfy really needs some new series.

  • bothcats

Heyerdahl is terrifying as John Druitt on Sanctuary! The original Jack the Ripper.

  • AnoukvdZee

I loved Sex&The City, but the whole point of it was that it WASN'T about twenty-somethings trying to figure it out and although I'm still in that age category (and figuring it out, yes), I don't know if it's going to work. But hey. Beautiful shoes that I can never afford but still look at.

"Christopher Heyerdahl" didn't mean anything to me, no. When I got to "Alistair" I squeeled. That guy! He's awesome!

You have to admit that a 0.3 rating is very impressive. Not many can go that low. On the first episode.

Beauty and the Beast sounds like a good premise, don't know the show though. Did everyone else notice that when they disfigure someone in a show/movie, they are always still hot through the ugly? Same with Beastly. When he reverted back to his real appearance, I actually liked him better ugly.moreless

And here I thought we were done with everthung Sex and The City....Doesn't this Rewind pilot from SyFy sounds like the show 7 Days? If you don't know what that is look it up, it was a good show....I think Christopher Heyerdahl is a perfect fit for True Blood. Like Tim said he was great as the Swede in Hell on Wheels and also as Druid/Big Guy on Sanctuary.

  • Writerpatrick

Heyerdahl will probably be more familiar to people as John Druitt on Sanctuary. In that he plays a character who has been injected with vampire blood.

  • ben45tpy

Remember how in SATC Season 1 everyone wore less glossy clothing, everyone acted a tincy bit more like actual people, the show was more about sexual philosophy (remember Carrie walking around Manhattan asking people questions) than "'"'characters"'"' and fetishes; does this mean that this gradient of change would continue back through time to the prequel so that in the 80's Carrie was a homely intellectual philanthropist who only wore hand-me-downs?

  • darkitp

i am thinking the prequel of sex and the city will be less sex and more bitchiness of not having a Cell phone , tampons , and a real bush-up-bra .. i mean come on ! the 80's ? i was born on that period and let me tell you , its shit !

I wonder if they have the guts to make the Beast an actual Beast, like the original show did. I say this because of, well, "Beastly" which proved today's execs cannot risk any of their stars actually looking ugly, therefore negating the message of the story. And The CW has always thought the same way, so.....

At the very least, they won't be so stupid as to kill the Beauty two seasons in, right?

You know that the "Beast" is gonna be on a par with "the ugly girl at school who's magically transformed into a cute girl when she takes her glasses off". It's going to be a major let-down. What are the chances they'll get a younger version of Michael Berryman to play the part? Yep, slim to none!
I can't believe the original series (with Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton) ran for over 50 episodes during 3 seasons. I don't remember it being that good.

  • GirishStewart

Christopher Heyerdahl is freaking awesome! Alaistair gave me nightmares! You missed his amazing John Druitt (Jack the Ripper) performance on Sanctuary and he is a Volturi on The Twlight Saga.

CW is making ridiculous pilot orders. Kripke's 'Deadman' and the JJ Abrams drama are the only ones which I am looking forward to. I'll give both 'Arrow' and 'BATB' a shot, but wonder if it will survive.

  • KevinG87

Rewind sounds like a mix between the Paul Walker movie Timeline, UPN's old show Seven Days, and Terra Nova.. aka it's probably not going to be good

Christopher Heyerdahl already played a vampire in the Volturi named Marcus in the Twilight movies.. so not too far a stretch for him.

  • AllieAllie

Yay on Rachel's dads. They're both really talented actors and signers, ive seen musicals with both of them in it.

  • Akyriel

I guess calling "Rewind" "Flash Backward" was out during the SyFy meeting to come up with more rip-off ideas?

And, honestly, do we need more terrorist cr*p on TV? These shows don't work - Caprica anyone?. Let's have a religious group blow up a train and a stadium massively filled with people. That will help boost ratings for a dying show!

We get it nearly 24/7 already. I, for one, am sick of it and partly because it's an unoriginal idea now.

  • crazylegs99

    The Swede is indeed awesome!

  • NickLopez2

One thing that I've been loving about these True Blood castings is that they've been casting for a lot of vampires. Vampire characters have seriously been lacking these last few seasons, so if there is one thing to look forward to, is that the show willl somewhat get back to the vampire subject with these cool sounding vampire characters. So I was actually a little excited when you said Heyerdahl will play a vampire.

  • CurlyMC

Christopher Heyerdahl also plays Both BigFoot and Teleporty Dude (cant remember his name John? something) on Sanctuary.

All I have to say is CW is pretty whacked. Come one people you have two amazing shows in Supernatural and Nikita. Why a crappy sex and the city prequel, or a beauty and the beast. I had to read that a few times to make sure my eyes and brain weren't lying to me.

  • LydiaWilson1

Is Jeff Goldblum going to be on Glee? It doesn't actually say Glee any where, but I assume that's the Rachel we are talking about. Yes?
