News Briefs: ABC Is Not Canceling General Hospital (The Revolution, However, Is a Goner)

Dr. Ghost, Dr. Bored Housewife, Dr. Evil Twin, Dr. Secret Spy, and Dr. In the Closet.

(NON-)CANCELLATION NEWS

... With daytime soap operas dying off as housewives spend more time playing Angry Birds and scouring cougar dating sites, ABC not cancelling a soap suddenly becomes news. General Hospital will not be following recently departed ABC soaps All My Children and One Life To Live into the dustbin. Instead, ABC is solidifying its daytime schedule by canceling The Revolution, the daytime talk show about being healthy. Why? Because when you're unemployed and sitting on the couch watching your stories, you don't like to be reminded that you're fat. [Deadline Hollywood]

BUSINESS TIME NEWS

... The Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman has the comic-to-TV-series thing figured out: He's got a second comic series in development at AMC in Thief of Thieves. This one doesn't have zombies, so it can't possibly be interesting. In Thief of Thieves, a talented thief with dual identities steals things that have already been stolen. That sounds okay. But what if the thief were... a zombie? [THR]

... To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Fox is digging into its files to remind you how far it's come. The network will re-air the 1987 pilot episode of Married With Children, which will remind you of the days when stars Katey Sagal and Ed O'Neill didn't play grandparents and Christina Applegate was the slutty teen and not the new mother. Look for it on April 22 at 7pm, an hour before the network's 25th Anniversary Special. [Fox via press release]

... Starz has announced a Season 2 premiere date for Boss: August 17. This is a pretty damn good show, and you have plenty of time to catch up before Season 2 gets going. Well... get to it! [EW]

EXPLOITING OLD PEOPLE NEWS

... Betty White joined Twitter yesterday... or did she!? A Twitter account created yesterday was said to be the official feed for the beloved actress and immediately attracted more than 100,000 followers, but White told friends she didn't know what the heck was going on. After a misunderstanding, it was discovered that White's PR people opened the account on her behalf, so any nude twit-pics you got from her probably weren't real. [People]

CASTING NEWS

... Charlie Sheen is booking his ex-wife Denise Richards for a guest role on his new FX show Anger Management. Richards will play the business partner of the in-show ex played by Shawnee Smith. These two are absolutely insane. [TV Line]

... David Tennant (Doctor Who) is coming to America via BBC America. He’ll star in Spies of Warsaw, a drama set in Europe just before World War II. No word yet on when it will air. [Deadline Hollywood]

... FX's American Horror Story is adding French actress Lizzie Brocheré. Chances are that if you are familiar with her body of work, you are familiar with her body, as she's done lots of racy films in her native country. [TV Line]

COMING-OUT NEWS

... Paul Iacono, the star of MTV's The Hard Times of RJ Berger, has come out as gay. [Village Voice]

Happy coming-out to Paul Iacono I guess. I liked RJ Berger, so I feel obliged to wish him luck even though I know nothing of the actor :P

First off, what the hell is the brunette girl wearing in that picture? Did someone drape a tank top over her front or something? "We need her to look like she's wearing more than just a tube top, quick, get her a tank top!" "But she won't wear a tank top!" "Just pin it around her shoulders like an apron!"

Secondly, anybody watching TV at home either is too busy doing housework to listen to well-paid people talk about health, or is too lazy to flip the channel. But in any case, nobody wants to watch health-themed TV, it's not entertaining and TV has proven over and over that it's inept at informing and educating.

Now, on to new business. Married With Children is one of the greatest sitcoms ever, but they play that mediocre pilot all the damned time in syndication, it's the show's weakest episode. Peg is actually cooking and doesn't have huge hair, Al isn't a total failure and entirely impoverished, Kelly isn't hilariously stupid yet, and Bud has some weird Rambo fetish. Also, Christina Applegate has been playing a mother on TV for 14 years now, ever since NBC's "Jesse" in '98, which was so odd coming right off of playing Kelly Bundy.

Oh good, Denise Richards gets to "act" again, that should be "fun".

David Tennant's awesome, but that show sounds so serious and important, I hope it will be entertaining too, I'm getting tired of "important" shows.

I've never been so disappointed to hear that a show isn't being cancelled. :)

Thief of Thieves sounds like a remake of It Takes A Thief.

Ha Ha Dr. in the closet... Jason is not gay! but Sam kinda dead on on the secret spy thing. Happy news that GH is staying on the air. 60 more years! or at least until Dr. Evil twin/Sonny dies of old age.

I didn't think it was actually Betty White because last week on Leno she said she doesn't own a computer and never will.. so I assumed it was just somebody on her management or something tweeting, or she was dictating them to somebody else to write.

is this David Tennant show a British show that BBC America is airing here or is it another BBC America original? I'll watch it specifically for Tennant.

I didn't think Paul Iacono was gay, maybe because of his character? but more power to him I guess.

Now bring back One Life to Live with a public apology to fans including "we made a huge mistake..."

Wait, so does that mean Betty White didn't write the 3 tweets on her Twitter, her PR team did? Why would they create an account, without asking her first.

Too bad the first season of Boss isn't out yet on DVD and has no scheduled release date. I'd like to sample this show. I'm in Canada and I don't want to pay $16.95 a month for Superchannel just to watch one show.

I'm Canadian too, and watched the whole series already, which is fantastic, BTW.

How? C'mon now... you're on the internet right now. If you have the bandwidth, you can watch it. Easily.... and, yes, for free.

If Fox REALLY wanted to show you how far its come, it would have re-aired the original episodes of "Werewolf".

Just thought the same thing! The actor in that is has been on General Hospital for some time now, by the way, and every time I look at him I think Werewolf.
