News Briefs: A&E Cancels Breakout Kings


... A&E; has canceled its original drama Breakout Kings just a few weeks after the show's Season 2 finale. Showrunner and co-creator Matt Olmstead recently agreed to head things up on NBC's firefighter drama Chicago Fire, so I guess we should have seen this coming. Why didn't any of you warn me? ... After five seasons and countless restraining orders against pervy old guys, iCarly will come to an end on Nickelodeon. The show will go out with a special that's going to air in November. ... One pilot I was bummed didn't get picked up for the 2012-2013 season was The CW's The Selection. But fear not, fans of shows looking to capitalize on The Hunger Games: The project is being tweaked and redeveloped for a shot at midseason! The young-adult drama stars Aimee Teagarden (Friday Night Lights) as a girl who wins a lottery to compete for the prince's hand in a war-ravaged nation 300 years in the future. The cable channel has ordered pilots for comedies Paging Dr. Freed, about a pair of gynecologist brothers, and Sirens, about EMTs in Chicago.
