BAD DOG NEWS

... A & E has reportedly canceled reality show Dog the Bounty Hunter after eight seasons. Apparently the show won't continue because bounty hunter Dog is having creative differences with A & E, which I find odd because this is a reality show. [TMZ]

BUSINESS TIME

... The next season of The Office will happen without showrunner Paul Lieberstein, but the man who plays Toby will be replaced by two people: Dan Sterling and Brent Forrester have stepped up to take over as executive producers. The pair previously worked with The Office's Greg Daniels on King Of the Hill. Good luck making this show relevant again, guys! [Deadline Hollywood]

... DirecTV is taking on the British series Hit and Miss, the kooky drama about a super assassin who is also a pre-op transsexual (played by Chloe Sevigny, of course). I want to see this. I do not have DirecTV. Does anyone out there have DirecTV? Can I come over to you house to watch? I will bring candy apples! [LA Times]

CASTING NEWS

... 24's Sarah Wynter will recur on the next season of Showtime's Californication. She'll play the wife of rocker Attidus Fetch, who is writing the music for the Broadway play based on Hank Moody's book. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Smash is casting a trio of characters for next season. The call is asking for a very attractive mid-20s African America woman, a sexy straight guy in his mid-20s, and a very cute mid-20s gay guy. Anyone over 28 and ugly need not apply. [TV Line]

... History has cast the first pillager for its scripted series Vikings. Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) will play Earl Haraldson, a powerful figure who battles the main character Ragnar Lothrok. [History via press release]
